Hello,
I have yet to be able to drive a HHR, but with these crazy ass gas prices I'm looking at tradeing in my 98 Dodge Durnango. The money I will save in gas will almost pay the payment.
But I also build custom trucks for a hobby. Everything in my book looks better lower. I have yet to find any companys making lowering kits for the HHR. I know they are built on the cobolt plat form. Would a cobolt lowering kit work? of I can just say screw it and go straight to air ride. I konw the back would be really easy and the front with the help of eather strut bags or air cylinders. But I dont want a daily driver thats bagged. I already have a bagged and body dropped 92 toyota pickup.
Its eather a HHR or a Xb

The part #'s dont match on the struts or the springs in the front between the HHR and the colbalt. There are 8 different part#'s for HHR front springs alone. The rear springs are the same with the colbalt and a few others in the chevy line.

The HHR is a Delta platform, other Deltas are the Cobalt, Pontiac Persuit and Opel/Vauhall/Holden Astra. The SSR is on the GMT-360 platform, the same as the TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Ranier and Saab 9-7x. Delta is a FWD compact car chassis while the GMT-360 is a full-frame midsize truck chassis.

Just thought I'd clear up any rumors you've heard.

Does anyone know what lowering springs do to the ride quality of a car. Better or worse?

It depends on what you consider better or worse. It will stiffen the ride on the car making you feel ever bump in the road, especially with larger rims. But the trade off is better handling and cornering with less body roll. Then there is also the whole clearance issue, I bottomed my Mustang out many times.

Hmm. I just don't know which is better.

It would probably depend on how you plan on using you vehicle. For a daily driver I wouldn't lower it the looks aren't worth the ride. I learned from my mistakes so I have no plans of lowering my HHR. If your going for performance or show I would say hell yea lower it. :thumb:

Is there anyway to drop it and keep the ride quality? I'm not wanting a huge drop just a bit.

Springs are sold with specific spring rates. Find the closest one to the factory. Seeing is how there is only one set on the market now you'll have to wait. You could go the old fashion ways and either heat your spring with a torch and let the weight of the vehicle drop it (very hard to gage if all 4 springs are the same, kind of trial and error) or put compresion clamps on the springs but both ways suck and I gaurantee you'll feel it in the ride.
