Has anyone put the GM licence plate bracket on? According to the instructions you put this on with pop rivets. I was hoping to put this on with screws and nuts, but there is no room between the plastic fasica and steel rail of the front bumper.

Yep...I had the dealer do it. They have the tools and in my opinion, if your state requires a front plate they should have done it prior to delivery. I stopped by and they did it for me in a couple minutes. When mine did it, they put one of the cardboard dealer plates in there so they would get more free advertising.

if your state requires it the dealer usually puts it on when the new tags come in

Mine is tight enough that it doesn't rattle or hit against the rear hatch. However, I have seen in other posts that people are putting things like weatherstripping under the two lower corners to eliminate the rattle and possible paint damage.

Put a piece of Dynamat on the back of your plate and that will stop. My plate is solid as hell, no rattling or movement what so ever.

Mine came attached with 4 big (about #10) panhead screws. But I removed it and mounted my plate below the front bumper.

some plate covers are made poorly compared to others. I had a decent plate cover and it rattled everytime so I replaced it with a more solid plate cover and I dont get rattling at all. When I finally get my personalized plate from the dmv I plan on adding dynamat to the back of it as well. You might also want to get some rubber washers and place it between the body and plate to see if that fixes the rattling.

This isn't any different than most cars being made today, it only takes to screws/bolts to keep the plate attached in an upright fashion.
I've not noticed any rattling from my plate, maybe because I'm not using any frame around it........just a plexicover over it.

I'll attach my plate only after the fix-it ticket has been issued. I instructed my dealer NOT to put the plate mounts on.

That Happend with mine and the first thing I did was put foam tape behind the plate and it stoped.

I agree with Sindy. I told them to NOT not put that bracket on my car. I will put it on only IF I get the fix-it ticket. Just my :2cents:

Much of the time the rattling is caused by the plate and frame hitting each other. I used double-sided tape to affix the bottom of the plate to the back of the frame and it cured the problem completely. For folks who don't like the empty bolt holes, here's another solution:

Pick up a set of License Plate Mounting Bolts (a couple of bucks at Pep Boys or Auto Zone), and install them in the lower holes. Next put a small rubber vacuum fitting plug over the exposed bolt threads. This will cause the plug to press firmly against the body - while preventing the bolt threads from doing any damage. Firmly mounted plate = no rattle! :thumb:

Hope it helps,

This would be ideal if all license plate frames had bottom holes! My wife got me an awesome custom-made frame that had top holes only. Like others on this forum, I, too, used some weatherstripping to solve the problem - no more rattling! :thumb:

I got Dynamat for license plates. A large piece goes on the plate and strips on the frame. It is solid now.
