View Full Version : Blank Spot by the AT Shifter
1BadPig 11-12-2005, 07:47 AM While waiting at a railroad crossing (a really long one  ) I looked around the car just to get a better feel of the interior. I noticed that next to the AT shifter there is this big blank spot. Anyone thought of doing anything in this area to spruce it up? I was thinking about getting a duplcate of the chrome "HHR" badge and glue it there. What do you think?
SIHHR 11-12-2005, 07:53 AM There is space to do something there. Another thing I would like to do is leather wrap the parking break. Its too plain for me. Its needs something to be done to it.
captain howdy 11-12-2005, 10:26 AM Are you talking about at the base of the shifter across from the window with the letters and numbers? Why would you want to put anything next to the shifter? I think Chevy should have leather wrapped the e-brake handle from the factory with the 2LT package. :( If they were doing the steering wheel and shifter they might as well have done the e-brake while they were at it. Once a billet market pops up I'm sure we'll see billet e-brake handles. :thumb:

captain howdy 11-12-2005, 01:37 PM I guess so. HHR down it would look pretty cool. All you would need is a set of the HHR letters off the back gate to stick on. They are just held on with dual sided tape so all you would have to do is line them up and stick them on. They probably cost between $10 - $20.
jeff schaffer 11-18-2010, 01:23 AM I put a transformer autobot logo head there just looks right with the theme i am going with. see my pics!

BlackknighT 11-19-2010, 09:01 PM My 2009 has a very fancy narrow rubber lined tray thingy? from the factory, Coin holder maybe? Retro High School used condom holder? I'll have to look in the manual.
SS fan 11-19-2010, 09:16 PM Mine has the slot and its perfect for the phone or the mp3 I have the hhr off the back door laying on the bench let me know if you need it or just stop by and pic them up:checkeredflag:
urbexHHR 11-19-2010, 09:33 PM I copied Dustin. Got HillsdaleHHR's extras from his debadging, and put them on mine. I like it! :thumb:
bowtieboy68 11-19-2010, 10:08 PM i took mine off the rear gate and put them in beside my shifter
Greybeard999 11-19-2010, 10:12 PM I took mine off and tossed them in a box........ I know it's an HHR, if anybody else doesn't that's their problem.
SS fan 11-19-2010, 10:20 PM what about the chicklets G-overnment M-otors on the bench
Greybeard999 11-19-2010, 10:28 PM They are in the box too..... I got's MoonEyes there now......

sleeper 11-20-2010, 12:49 AM blank spot...........still blank.
Howdy was banned years ago I do believe.
Because he has been known to be involved w/ many arguments here, this is just to keep his rep clean........
His "ban" was only a suspension. Don't know why, but he seemed to just drop off the face of the Earth.
843de 12-08-2010, 03:40 AM I like the blank spot, it makes me feel closer to Paddy. I have a little bald spot, the Paddy Wagon has a blank spot, and my wife thinks we're both adorable.
GDZHHR 12-08-2010, 08:38 AM Don't care for the HHR in that location but to each their own.
I solved it by switching out to the 2009 shifter. Instead of that plactic slider, I've now got a leather boot and an extra little storage pocket.

To be fair though, he was often baited by another member who was finally banned from this site. :skull1:

He wasn't banned. He just quit coming to the forum. He stated to another member that he had internet burn out. His suspension was way before he quit coming here and was like a 3 day ban.
farmer52 12-08-2010, 07:22 PM I like what you did with the 2009 shifter. How difficult is it to change? Thanks!

Greybeard999 12-08-2010, 08:55 PM There's a thread here on the forum about this topic of changing the shifter/cover to the newer style.

I'd say it was a 2 on a 1-5 scale. Saddly, you have to buy the whole shifter unit.

Having a 2010 SS, I already have this standard and I love the little storage slot. It will hold my cigs or phone easily. A great option to have! Too bad they didn't offer this as a standard option on all HHR's.

elantra07 12-09-2010, 02:08 AM mine has a little tiny cubby,i just use it for my mp3 player!
elantra07 12-09-2010, 02:11 AM does any one make a different insert instead of the chrome for the auto shiftknob?
American & Proud 12-09-2010, 08:17 AM When I went to nab my rear seat for my Panel, I was getting it from an '09.
Not alot was left on it, but the Shifter was with the little pocket, I Meant to nab it while I was removing everything for the rear seat, but once I finished getting all the seat parts out and packed up my tool bag, I FORGOT about the shifter until I was loaded up and paid for my parts.
I drove away got on the highway and it Hit me like a ton of LEAD, DOH I forgot to take the shifter out of the '09! DARN IT!
I did not turn around I was already 20 minutes on the highway towards home.
115 mile trip each way, at that point I said F-it and just kept going home.
I just keep one of the tiny remotes there now for the headrest monitors. The chrome ring keeps it there pretty good. But every now and then it slides behind the shifter and I will shift into gear and it's on the floor.
Wish I had remembered to Nab the '09 one for that little pocket.
Still ticks me off I totally forgot to get it. The salvage yard guy was really cool and didn't even charge me for some other parts I had grabbed like the 2 rear trays (for spares) so he might have just let me have the shifter too.
Oh well. A small piece of Velcro will have to do maybe.
08ShadowHHR 12-09-2010, 08:59 PM I would just like to find the little tray itself. I have looked and it seems like an easy job to just trim it out to proper size and shape. Should have been done on the 06-09's considering the window controls took space from another cubby there.

You may need to write 'post-it' notes, I do, problem is I forget where I posted them ??
bassbase 12-10-2010, 12:04 AM I have done something with that area, A billiet insert from Maggies and a billet flame piece:

Yup, that's what this thread is about. BTW, I think you can buy a new set for about that at the dealer. That's where I got mine, don't remember exact cost, but it was less than I thought it would be.
