View Full Version : Wisconsin HHR Get-Together

I am thinking about possibly putting together an HHR get-together in Wisconsin. It would most likely consist of Picture-Taking, Lunch (maybe a cookout at a local park), Bowling, Dinner, and a movie, and anything else people suggest and are interested in. I live in Green Bay, WI, but I would be open to having it just about anywhere in the state. I'm thinking maybe Wausau would be a good location since it's right in the center of the state. Or maybe Eau Claire, then people from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area could come too. But if you have other suggestions on where to hold it, please let me know; I'm open to anything. Where are most of the HHR owners in Wisconsin located? Just reply with your location so I can get a better idea of where to have this event. Right now, I'm checking to see if there is enough people interested in attending to make it worthwhile. If I were to set up an event, it would definitely be on a Saturday or Sunday so that way more people would be able to come. If you think you'd be interested in coming to an event like this, just let me know. Even if you're not 100% sure and still on the fence, please let me know that too. Also, if you have any suggestions on other things to do or the location to have it, just post them. Once I have an idea of who's interested, what we all want to do, and where we want to have this G2G, I'll start setting things up and putting the details together. And also, anyone from out-of-state who wants to come is definitely welcome too. Let me know what you think.

I will be watching this POST and I will also be looking to see how many Guys & Dolls will attend. I would driving from the Indiana border line, So it would take me a few hours.

Does anybody have any other suggestions on things to do? I was thinking maybe we could have an HHR drive. You know how sometimes you see a lot of motorcycles riding together in a "pack", well maybe we could all drive our HHRs around town together in a "pack" for half an hour, sort of like a funeral procession or something. I don't know it that's weird; I think it might be kind of cool, we could have someone take pictures too. But if it sounds like a dumb idea, just say so, you're not going to hurt my feelings, I'm just trying to come up with ideas. Also, if you have any other ideas, please post them.

I just put up a poll so people can vote for where they'd like the HHR G2G to be held. Even if you're not sure if you're going to come or not, please vote in the poll. It will help me to better plan the details of this G2G and determine the best location. Thanks!

Sure, I'd be interested in coming to this G2G!:thumb:

I voted for Milw, cause that's practically in my backyard (and there's lots of beer!), but I'd certainly consider the others. Eau Claire is kind of a long-shot for me, but the Leinenkugel Brewery isn't far from there! I'm sure there's lots of things to do besides drink beer... isn't there!:p:

If we did do in in Milw., there is plenty to do of course... Especially in Summer. There's always the drag races at Union Grove! :steering: Madison or the Dells have lot's of cool sites to see and entertainment as well. :thumb:

Definitely interested... would be coming from Northern IL so Milwaukee or the Dells would be more ideal for me. Don't want to alienate the Northern WI folks though, we have CHI meets that I can hit if you decide to go further north.

TomsHHR, I just noticed that you're from Superior, WI. That's funny, I'm going to college at UW-Superior this fall. Everyone thinks I'm nuts for wanting to go even further north than Green Bay, but I really like Superior area and I like the fact that its right next to Duluth. It's like two cities in one. I like UW-Superior because its a smaller college; they only have around 3,000 students. I looked at UMD too, but they have around 12,000 students; that seemed so big to me. The snow doesn't really bother me, plus I like to go cross-country skiing too. How much snow do you normally get? Do you have any snow left now? In Green Bay, there's absolutely no snow left.

Would be interested depending on when and where. Coming from Mpls. and a day trip would be great but could poss. make it a overnight. It look's like half the people east and half west so maybe the Dells would split difference the best

Right now, I'm putting together a couple possible schedules of events/activities. I'm making one for Wisconsin Dells and one for Milwaukee since those seem to be the most popular locations. I'm almost positive this G2G would only be one day; it would be too expensive if I tried to make it an overnight thing. When I'm finished with the schedules, I'll post them up here and everyone can decide which one they like best. Also, if there's anyone else who'd like to come, just say so.

I might be able to attend depending on where and when, but my life is about to get crazy 'til the end of summer.

goetylsd where at in GB do you live? I live on the east side off the GV exit on 172. I purchased my SS from broadway, but now take it to Gandrud for anything I need. I didn't really visit the site during the winter, and never realized there was another member from GB

Actually, I live in way out in the country in West De Pere (out by the Oneida Police Station), but I just put Green Bay since people know where it is. I bought my 2007 Chevrolet HHR 1LT at Thorstad Chevrolet in Madison because they had the best deal I could find. I haven't really had to fix anything yet (I'm keeping my fingers crossed). I don't really go over to the east side of town very often but who knows, maybe I'll see you sometime. My HHR is maroon with a Chevrolet decal on the windshield, running boards, chevrolet mud flaps, and an orange "W" on the rear window since I go to West De Pere HS. I don't think there's too many HHRs in Green Bay that are exactly the same as mine.

Also, I'd like to know what the best time is for everyone. May, June, July, August? If everyone who's planning on going (or maybe thinking about going) could please post what month is best for them, I'd really appreciate it. It will help with planning events and things to do. AH...De Pere is close to Green Bay. When I first moved to GB about 4 years ago, I lived in my wife's (then Girl friend) Uncle and Aunts basement for a few months. They live on Amhart St. in west depere. I'll keep my eyes peeled for ya and if you see a black SS w/ the yellow SS decals honking at you then its me.

I have not had any issues other then taking it broadway for the aux brake pump to be added. and well that was a mess. But I get the oil and stuff done at gandrud

Wow, I almost totally forgot about this whole G2G I was putting together. I guess I've just been really busy lately. So, I'm just going to throw a few dates out there and see what works for everyone. Also, is a day trip what most people are interested in? It seems like that would be easier than doing overnight trip, but let me know what you think.

Here's the dates:
-Saturday, July 31
-Sunday, August 1
-Saturday, August 14
-Sunday, August 15

If everyone who's interested in going would please just post which date(s) works best for you on this thread, it would help me out a lot for planning.

Also, I'm thinking since we have people coming from Minnesota that Wisconsin Dells would be the best location. I know that Milwaukee received the most votes, but that would be a bit long for the people coming from further away. Does Wisconsin Dells work for everyone? Let me know what you think.

August 14th would work best for us. It's a three-plus hour drive from Minneapolis, so we'd most likely stay overnight. Considering the Dells isn't the cheapest place to stay, especially on short notice, it would be best for us to finalize this as soon as possible so that we can make reservations.

OK, thanks for the replies. The weekend of August 14th works for me, and it seems to work for everyone else too. Not everyone who initially showed interest in this G2G has replied yet. I sent PMs to everyone who expressed interest in coming to this G2G, and some people have replied. So, I'm going to try sending e-mails to everyone who hasn't replied yet. That way, if they haven't had a chance to get online lately, at least maybe they'll see the e-mail. At the end of this week, I'm going to just have to pick a weekend and go with it because people need to make hotel reservations and we need to have a date set in place for planning purposes. So far, it looks like 14th-15th is what we're going to go with, but nothing is final yet. Hopefully, that will give everyone who hasn't replied yet a chance to post which weekend(s) work for them. Also, I will be posting up a example schedule/itinerary soon so people can say what they think and give suggestions. So check back soon for more information!

Hey Guys & Dolls
If its the 14th & 15th of Aug I just might be able to follow Tom Da a76marine and his wife. They are very good friends of mine and have been their for me when I needed friends during my Cancer. I will have to check because it's my Son's Birthday on the 16th and I must see what he want's to do on the 14 & 15th. Tom has my number so I am sure that he will keep me informed. I hope I can make this one. I love the dells but it will depend on funding for me but hell it sounds like it would be a great time. for a one day trip I would drive from the South East side of CHicago to almost any were if it only takes 3 hrs. But the Dells or any thing further for 1 day might not be in my funding if you know what I mean. My Doctors and I have found another Lump in my throath and I am going for a CT Scan tomorrow and I will get the results on Tuesday so this will just be another added bill that I will have to pay again. But hey lets just have fun. Thats what this HHr is all about. I hope to meet some new friends. I think you should put this on the Illinois region also. You might get more HHr's to go.

OK, I've decided that we are for sure going to have it the weekend of August 14th-15th in Wisconsin Dells. I was wondering: how many people are coming just by themselves? I myself want to stay overnight, but I don't want to spend a ton of money on a room for just me. Maybe if there's other people coming by themselves, we could pair up 2 to a room, and then split the cost. Let me know what you think. And I'll post up the details pretty soon. I know I've said that a couple times already, but I'm so busy lately, just going, going, going. When I have some free time, I'll work on it.

Here's a summary:
--goetylsd (from Green Bay, WI) – Yes
--W0THK (from Minneapolis, MN) – Yes
--a76marine (from Waukegan, IL) – Yes
--jayceeg (from Minneapolis, MN) – Probably
--Z-Man (from Chicago, IL) – Maybe
--TomsHHR (from Superior, WI) – Maybe
--CarlsSS (from Cedarburg, WI) – Maybe
--milwaukee hhr (from Milwaukee, WI) – Haven't heard back from yet.
--09 SS (from Green Bay, WI) - Haven't heard back from yet.

At this point, I'd really appreciate any suggestions you guys have, from what we do, to where we eat, to where we stay. I'm trying to put together a schedule, but I'm sort of stuck because I don't know what it is exactly that we want to do. I'm not sure what everyone likes and is interested in. I have ideas, but I'd like to hear your opinions too. I can put together my ideas into a schedule, but I want to have a schedule with stuff everyone wants to do, not just my ideas. So please, suggest away! Throw some stuff out there!

Thanks,

Wisconsin Dells HHR G2G Schedule

Saturday, August 14, 2010

****These times are all just approximate to give us an idea of how our day will be broken down. Nothing is final yet, we might end up spending more or less time at each of these places depending on how things play out.****

10:30am-12:00pm
We can meet up and just hang out at the Visitor's Center until everyone arrives. :thumb:

Wisconsin Dells Visitor Information Center
701 Superior Street
Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965

I'm thinking that maybe this Visitor Information Center would be the best place to take pictures. Since I'm not from Wisconsin Dells, I don't really have a whole lot of idea as far good picture-taking spots. If anyone has suggestions of good locations, feel free to chime in.

12:00pm-1:30pm

Once our group is all together, we'll head to Culver's for lunch.

Culver's
312 Broadway
Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965
608-253-9080

1:30pm-3:30pm

After lunch, we'll go bowling:

608-254-8727
http://www.chaletlanes.com/

Prices:
$3.50 per game
$2.50 for shoe rental

3:30pm-5:00pm

I'm not sure exactly, but I'm thinking it would be cool to take some sort of drive, maybe through a scenic area or just around the dells, with our HHRs. Show them off to all the tourists. I think it would be cool if we took pictures or video of this.

5:00pm-6:30pm

After our drive, this Drive-in A&W sounds like a cool place to go for supper. Check out their website; it looks pretty cool!

A&W Drive-in Restaurant
717 East Wisconsin Street
Portage, WI 53901
608-742-5759
http://www.awdrivein.com/

608-254-7500
http://www.piratescovewisdells.com/

Prices:
18 Holes- $7.75
Each addition course- $3.88
*There are 5 different 18-hole golf courses here, so we could do a couple if you guys want to.

8:00pm-I don't know

After mini-golfing, we can do a drive-in movie:

Big Sky Drive-in Theatre
16 Wisconsin Dells Parkway North
Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965
608-254-8025
http://www.bigskydrivein.com/

-Open at 8:00PM, Showtime is at Dusk
-Movies typically begin anywhere between 8:45-9:20PM
Prices:
Adult Ticket- $9.00

After the movie, we can go back to our hotel/sleeping arrangements (some of us might sleep in our HHRs) for the night.

Sunday, August 15, 2010

8:00am-9:30am

The last time I was in WI Dells, I ate at Mr. Pancake for breakfast and I really liked it; it was a cool place. I think you guys would probably like it too, but there are a ton of places to eat; we really could go anywhere.

Mr. Pancake
1405 Wisconsin Dells Pkwy
Wisconsin Dells, WI 53965
608-253-3663
http://www.mrpancake.com/

I'm wondering: Do you guys want to be done about this time Sunday morning so you can start heading home? Or would you rather do a few more things on Sunday? Let me know. This schedule is just tentative.

Estimated Costs:

I'm putting this together so we can have some sort of an idea what this will cost everyone. I tried to keep this as cheap, yet enjoyable as possible; that's why I put Culver's and A&W for eating out versus some expensive restaurant. I didn't put in Water Parks or Theme Parks simply to keep costs down. I know money is a bit of a concern for people (including me), and considering the way the economy is, now isn't exactly the best time for spending lots of money and vacationing. So I hope you all understand that I tried to make this as much of a "budget vacation" as possible.

$5.00 - $10.00 at Culver's for Lunch
$13.00 - $16.50 at the Bowling Alley (depending on if we want to bowl 3 games or 4 games)
$5.00 - $10.00 at A&W for Supper
$7.75 - $11.62 for Mini-golfing (depending on if we golf 1 course or 2 courses; there's 5 different golf courses total)
$9.00 - $15.00 at the Drive-in Movie Theater (Admission is $9.00, but depending on if you want to get popcorn or snacks or drinks, it might be a little more then. You could always bring in your own snacks and soda too, since it's a drive-in, to same money.)
$5.00 - $10.00 for breakfast at the restaurant.

So it will be about $44.75 - $73.12 per person plus fuel costs and hotel accommodations (if you decide to stay at a hotel). The price really depends on how much we decide to do.

****If you want, you could always bring an air mattress, blankets, and pillows, fold down your seats, and sleep in your HHR to save money. I did it the other weekend, and it wasn't bad at all; I actually thought it was kind of fun. I stopped in a rest area off the highway at like 10:00 at night, and there was quite a few minivans, conversion vans, SUVs, motor homes there. Since everyone else there was sleeping too, I didn’t really feel awkward or anything.

If you guys would rather do something else more than some of the things I have listed, or if you'd rather do more stuff on Sunday, just say so. If you have other ideas of things to do on top of what I already have, we probably could fit a couple other things in Saturday; there is definitely some leeway in the amount of time we spend at each place. Please feel free to make other suggestions/share your ideas, this is just a potential itinerary I put together to get things started.

The schedule looks pretty good, except for the start time. We have a four-hour drive from Minneapolis, so we probably won't be in the Dells until early afternoon - 1:00 would be about the earliest. The breakfast on Sunday could be a little later as well. We're not early risers on the weekends! Of course, we'll do whatever the majority feels like.

I'm thinking we'll head off on our own after breakfast on Sunday and see a few sites before heading for home.

When our HHr Club Mid-West region when to the Dells in 2007 we all stayed at Howard Johnson in the Dells and they gave us a Discount and they also gave us parts of their Parking lots for our Creepers Games and other Games that we hosted in the Lots for the day and we all went down town on the East side for evening Ice Cream and Sunday we all went fo Go-cart racing. Check out my Photos from all of the event's we had Since 2006 as we in the Mid West region have done as far as g2g BBQ's, Road trips and Burger stops. and always had a show and Shine of our HHr's and we gave out Gifts for the person who drove the farthest, The Oldest, and 1st, 2nd, 3rd place as far as the Best looking ride and the HHr that had the most Mods. Their is so much we can do it just takes time and people to go out and get Sponsers to donate gifts for our g2g. TomsHHr even planted a gift that every one had to find like a HHr Fun Hunt for a prize. I hope every one has a fun time that shows up and is ready to have a crazy time after all that is what these g2g are all about this sounds like it will be a 1st time for a lot of the HHr's that will be going. I hope to be there it will take me a 4 hr ride coming from the Indiana Border line. This sounds like it will be a fun time, Ijust hope my Health is good for this wekend trip

Did you find out the result of your CT scan yet? Didn't you say that you'd know on Tuesday? I hope the results are only good results!

Just curious what all of our HHRs look like. Mine is 2007 HHR 1LT in Sport Red Metallic. Now you guys put down your YEAR, TRIM, and COLOR. I'm just curious as to how much of a variety we will have.

By the way, here's a direct link to the website of the Super 8 Hotel in Wisconsin Dells. http://www.dellssuper8.com/ It looks like it's pretty nice for the price. They seem to be the cheapest place around with rooms still left. This is where Tom from Minneapolis is staying, I'm thinking staying here too. If there's anyone who wants to share a room, let me know.

For a cheaper alternative, Portage motels are significantly less than the Dells. Also, The Fisherman's Luck resort is kind of cool as a place to go. Nice view of teh Wisconsin River and Pub style food. You can camp there for a fee.

I would call first to see if any of the things like the DJ or Karaoke are going on. They haven't changed the site in years.

Actually, I'm not going to be able to go anymore. I was trying to wait and see if I could swing it, but I had some unexpected bills/expenses come up just lately and I don't have any money for the trip now. I barely have enough money for my car payment and insurance, so there's no way I can afford going to the G2G. You guys can still go ahead and do the G2G if you want.

Here's an update of who can't make it anymore:

- Z-man
- CarlsSS
- TomsHHR
- milwaukee_hhr
- a76marine
- goetylsd

I'm not trying to post anything negative, but I just thought you guys should know that it will just be you two then, jayceeg and W0THK. You guys can still go ahead and do it if you want, but it's, unfortunately, a "for sure" no for me too.

It doesn't make much sense for two guys from Minneapolis to drive to the Dells to meet. Let's just cancel this and try again another day.

Tyler - thanks for all the work you did in trying to put this together. Sorry it didn't work out. Perhaps it'll work out later.

I'm near Chicago, and I tried to put together a meet and then a run down Route 66, but had little interest, only a couple guys.

You know, a cool multi-state location to meet would be Galena, Illinois. Historic town, great roads for driving, very scenic, and you can cruise into Iowa and hit small towns, etc., and the Field of Dreams is only 45 minutes from Galena.

Galena is 3 hours from me, and I would hope about the same for most of you guys in the Wisconsin and Minnesota too.

Maybe we should start saving our pennies and plan for next spring?

Actually, this event was scheduled for last summer, but it didn't end up happening because so many people couldn't make it and such. I was one who set it up. Although, I should try to set something up for this summer maybe. Since everyone will be going to the Hillsdale BBQ in the beginning of June, maybe we could do this around the end of July, beginning of August sometime. I'm glad you revived this thread. Now, you got me excited about the whole WI G2G thing again. I'll get working on this and see what I come up with. Give me a little while to sketch some things up. I'll let you know once I have more information.

It seems like we've had a lot of new members from Wisconsin join the forum in the past year. I'd say there is at least 5-10 new members from Wisconsin than there was last year. This event was actually planned for last summer, but since there seems to be a renewed interest, I will have to try and throw something together for this summer. I'll keep you guys updated once I figure something out...
