View Full Version : Overheating - 2nd time
TX-HHR 07-10-2006, 09:23 PM I had overheating problems again today for the second time in 5 weeks. Today I noticed the temp guage moving up on my way to lunch with CJ and Cowboy. I decided I'd take it straight to the dealer (after lunch), CJ was nice enough to follow me and I'm glad he did. I didn't make it more than 4 miles down the highway and the temp reached 240 and was not cooling off at highway speed. I played it safe, pulled over and called for a tow. Stayed cool in CJs HHR waiting for the tow. Thanks CJ. :thumb: When I got to the service department the service writter looked at me and asked "So how's your day" I shot back a look that answered the question for him, but stayed calm. The thermostat was replaced last time, but I've got a feeling its something bigger today. I'm thinking that it's losing fluid. CJ took this picture at lunch today, this is after the cars had been sitting for an hour and looks like I've got leak.

courthousedeb 07-11-2006, 12:41 AM :scared: Yikes...that doesn't look or sound good at all. Please keep us posted on what happens. Good thing CJ was there to help out and keep you from getting any hotter than you were already.
Don't you just hate people that ask stupid questions like that?
Hello...I just had my brand new car towed here ya dipstick...how would your day be?

Looks like your HHR seen CJ's and couldn't contain itself!
Seriously though, I hope it's nothing serious, maybe just a loose hose or something.

That is the reaction alot of people have to CJ's HHR, makes sense to me. :roflol:  :clappy:
TX-HHR 07-11-2006, 05:25 PM Just got the call from the dealership. The heater core is leaking and being replaced. Should be ready tomorrow afternoon.

Awesome. That's covered under the warranty isn't it?

Yes, it's covered by the standard warranty. Hopefully I'll be out of the rental and back to my HHR soon.
cowboybornlate 07-12-2006, 01:32 AM It was a pleasure meeting you at lunch and CJ is always a blast to get together with. Hopefully we can get together again down the road. Hopefully you will be back in your ride soon. Very nice ride by the way! Good luck and keep us posted!

TX-HHR 07-13-2006, 09:29 AM I got my HHR back! It's running much cooler. Didn't get above 194 this morning after I picked it up. I'll be listening for the next few days to see if the sloshing noise is still present over the next few days.
cowboybornlate 07-13-2006, 02:06 PM Good to hear you got your HHR back and it's running fine again! Keep us updated on the sloshin!

That's good news. I am still watching ours since we returned from our road trip. Staying right around 194 to 200 in Charlotte heat. No leaks, no sloshing. By the way I am also an Architect, do you think there is some kind of connection between our design education and the HHR?
We know good design when we see it:thumb:
txsman2930 07-13-2006, 07:12 PM Fantastic! Glad you got your car back. Hopefully you won't have any more heating up especially in this TX heat.
TX-HHR 07-13-2006, 08:41 PM I can report that the cooling system is working much better. When I got in to make the commute home from work the outside temp was reading 110. That's Texas and concrete for you. The coolant temp never went over 201 over my 20-25 minute drive. I'm very happy with that. I know it can do a little better. While CJ was waiting with me on Moday for the tow truck his HHR was idling in the afternoon heat and the temp was a steady 192. But like everything on his car it's been messed with, I think he's used water wetter or something like that. I guess I know what I'm getting next time I'm at the parts store.

Well- hopefully all's well with your ride (finally!). I'll 2nd for the 'water wetter'... added some a couple days ago and my avg temp's are around 192-194* AT SPEED!! Not a bad investment of $8. I used the RedLine version- due to using it previously (it's superior in my mind) but I did notice Prestone (I think) has a similar additive out as well ($12). Although I'm sure both products are similar (CJ's running the 'other' product), I personally can vouge for RedLines performance :thumb:. Purchase EITHER one a.s.a.p.- you won't believe how good it works!
cadfour 04-16-2007, 09:45 PM Overheating in cars makes your head overheat as well:mad: Leaking coolants is one of the symptoms of having a bad heater core. That's what I've known with admin spam link edit (http://www.chevyhhr.net), I think it's true to all. The best solution is to replace it. If it's still within the warranty, check on your dealer. If not, find a good one.
