View Full Version : Chevy HHR vs. Ford Focus Wagon
Kar Krazie 11-20-2005, 01:16 PM They are both small, cargo carrying cars that are easy on gas. They both serve the same purpose, an economy cargo-hauler. I am thinking the difference is that buyers of the Ford Focus Wagon dont care what they look like! What do you think of this comparo??
SIHHR 11-20-2005, 01:48 PM I had a ford Focus Sedan for 4 1/2 years, then I traded it in for an HHR. So in my case the HHR wins. check out pictures of my focus http://www.cardomain.com/ride/131511
captain howdy 11-20-2005, 02:17 PM You can turn a Focus into a rally car but I don't think the HHR would make a very good rally car.
SIHHR 11-21-2005, 10:03 PM Something I found on the internet

HHR-FordRules 11-24-2005, 02:38 AM My dad is going to buy a Focus wagon.
SoCalHHR 11-24-2005, 02:43 AM I hope he gets the rocket engine cosmetic upgrade - I wouldn't drive one without it!
captain howdy 11-24-2005, 07:44 AM My dad is going to buy a Focus wagon.
Talk him out of it. Point out all of the reasons why he needs to buy a HHR. :thumb:
HHR-FordRules 11-24-2005, 01:46 PM The HHR just isnt good enough in MPG.And My dad says it looks funny.
captain howdy 11-24-2005, 02:22 PM At least you tried.
HHR-FordRules 11-24-2005, 07:40 PM I did.
Firewatcher 01-10-2006, 07:30 PM I almost got a Focus wagon because of fuel economy, and driving my daughter back and forth to her college campus. Then I thought about it......the Focus and the HHR wagon are darned near the same in economy and cargo space. Question is.....do I want to look like my grandfather out for a Sunday drive? Or do I want to look my age while driving a sportier vehicle that is much more fun? HHR baby!
SIHHR 01-10-2006, 07:35 PM Good Choice with the HHR. I actally traded in an 2000 Ford Focus SE for my HHR. I miss my old car a bit. But I love my HHR.
SoCalHHR 01-10-2006, 07:39 PM Still, for me it was a toss-up between the HHR and the Focus Wagon with that "Rocket Engine" option pack:

The HHR won out by a nose! :D
SIHHR 01-10-2006, 07:45 PM Whats funny is the Focus has an Moch Eddition
captain howdy 01-10-2006, 07:50 PM Moch edition? Do you mean Mach, like a Mach 1 Mustang? If you do about the closest thing I could think of would be the Saleen N2O Focus or the SVT Focus. ;)
SIHHR 01-10-2006, 07:56 PM I did that on purpose to make fun of the Mach Eddition. Becasue it was no wear near it and spelling it wrong would make it more getto.
SIHHR 01-10-2006, 07:57 PM Comeon now those rear end pipes are just too much
captain howdy 01-10-2006, 07:59 PM The only car in the Ford lineup to have the Mach name is the Mach 1 Mustang, there is no Mach 1 Focus. You're either talking about the SVT Focus on the Saleen Focus.
SIHHR 01-10-2006, 08:11 PM I loved the SVT Focus when I first heard about it. But since it was only offered in stick and I could only drive an auto I said heck with it. I would of traded in my 2000 for the 2003 first year production for the SVT. But after waiting and waiting. Getting ride of it for an HHR 5 years later was worth the wait.
aja342 01-20-2006, 04:47 PM I am kinda surprised there is no SS HHR...they seem to be making a SS of every thing but the HHR.
captain howdy 01-20-2006, 04:56 PM I am kinda surprised there is no SS HHR...they seem to be making a SS of every thing but the HHR.
I'm sure there will be with enough demand. I was kind of suprised myself when I started researching the HHR. That's why I had to get the 2LT, if an SS were available I would have bought one.
aja342 01-21-2006, 12:41 AM Snag a super from a coblat, or a turbo from a saturn, springs...swaybars...then add some brakes.....there ya go HHR SS
DJNateGnau 01-21-2006, 02:06 AM Saturn has the Supercharger too.
Kar Krazie 01-21-2006, 02:18 AM I heard, from an extremely reliable source, that there will be an HHR SS. Very soon, we will see see it, maybe 2007.... I will give you a hint to the engine, it will be in a Cobalt, but the Cobalt doesnt have it just yet, the Solstice GXP does.......
lrg760 01-21-2006, 02:15 PM I liked the Ford, it handled nice, had traction control, a nice roof rack, But it was not as nice as my HHR LT2. The leather seats and stereo plus all the other refinements make the new car outstanding.
snksknr94 01-22-2006, 11:52 PM Snag a super from a coblat, or a turbo from a saturn, springs...swaybars...then add some brakes.....there ya go HHR SS
SAAB uses the turbo, the ion and the Cobalt both use a supercharger, but none of them are a 2.4L, so it's not as easy. Best thing would be the direct injection engine going into the Solstice, I'll be into my next car before the HHR SS comes out anyway, so I don't really care.
SIHHR 01-23-2006, 09:43 PM HHR is much more appealing then a Ford Focus Wagon
captain howdy 01-23-2006, 09:52 PM Yeah, wagon isn't in the HHRs name. :p:
SIHHR 01-23-2006, 10:42 PM High Roof is. However Its not really that high.
captain howdy 01-23-2006, 11:29 PM It is from the inside. ;) Especialy coming from a Mustang and a Sunfire before that to the HHR. When I sit in the back seat i can't believe how much room there is. :)
O6ChevyHHR 03-16-2006, 07:54 PM HHR is still number one on my list!
kb hhr 03-20-2006, 05:19 AM I just bought a focus with the street app package. It is nothing like the hhr. It need's lowered and new wheel's and tire's Other then that it not a bad car.The hhr has more option's just standerd mine's 2lt.

You don't want to know what I think......
Well.... Maybe you do. ;)
I had my HHR about 3 weeks when I rear ended a Buick waiting to make a left turn. Totally my fault and I admit that. Shoulda been looking ahead instead of trying to find my Mt. Dew in the cupholder. Anyway, we had a Ford Hopeless... I mean Focus.... as a rental for the two weeks my car was in the bodyshop being repaired.
God how I hated that car. No room at all. My head rubbed the roof. The back hatch kept jarring loose when I was driving, the open door light would come on and the alarm thing would go off. The cargo space was a joke. Not even half of the HHR's. And the gas milage was not nearly as good as my HHR's either. Aside from all that, the Focus just felt cheap.
HHR wins hands down.
