View Full Version : How to Install Running boards
DdAMaN21 08-15-2006, 05:39 PM Hello I am new to this forum and have a question for all you guys and gals out there. I recently purchased a 2006 HHR LT Sunburst Orange, without the running boards on it. After reading posts on here ive decided to order running boards and install them myself (dealer wants like 250 to instal..Too much for me:cussing:). So I would like to know if anyone has installed these on there HHR's them selves and had any tips or instructions to help me out on this project. Any Help in this matter is greatly apreciated.:D

The instructions included with the rb's are fairly straightforward. After reading the instructions and you still have questions dont hesitate to post them here.

HHR PNOY 08-18-2006, 07:44 PM Did you read the link I provided for you above? It tells you what needs to be done to remove the panels.

captain howdy 08-18-2006, 07:45 PM Probably pull hard. My HHR came with the running boards installed so I'm not 100% sure but I believe the rocker panels are held in by just clips.
Firewatcher 08-18-2006, 08:14 PM Not that I did mine (dealer did it aftermarket, and after complaints), but there is one screw in each wheel well that goes into the rocker panel end, and then some clips. When installing the baords, make sure that the end of the board slides under the wheel well lining before attaching. And use the previously shown links for assistance! :thumb:
DdAMaN21 08-18-2006, 08:25 PM Yes I read the reply but I wasnt sure if there were any hidden srews cause this thing is really on there and even tho im replacing them i dont want to break them.
HHR PNOY 08-18-2006, 08:43 PM you will have a hard time saving the chips. Trust me, I tried and ended up tearing a couple off and throwing the rocker panels away.
DdAMaN21 08-18-2006, 08:50 PM well thanks for the help, Im gonna get started AGAIN, in the morning when theres more light, il post some pics when I get it done.:thumb:

I can't say for sure how they come off but when I ordered myy HHR, it was not until I read here about chipping issues that I then ordered the running boards. When everything arrived at the dealer I asked for the rocker panels back once the boards were on. When I went to pick everything up the salesman said, when I asked where the rocker panels were, that in order to get them off, 99 times out of 100 the clips break or have to be broken making the rockers pretty much useless. So the moral of the story is that I am not sure you can get them off without damaging them.
DdAMaN21 08-19-2006, 03:49 PM Well I just got the Running boards on and they look great, didnt have much problems installing them. I would post pics but the only one I know how to do is my avatar, but I will be posting pics on my cardomain site here,http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2417404
