I never understood the comparison. Can the two really be compared? I don’t see anything similar in the tow cars

A fair comparison is the Xb to a box of dog turds. The HHR is a much better car all around, no comparison.

No a really Fair Comparision is a XB and an element: There both stupid and only available at Box's R US

Yeah and the Vb is a lot smaller than the Element, at least on the inside. That Element is one ugly car. My neighbor has one, its just so weird looking.

Let's not completely dismiss the xB. While some of you may not like it's looks or the fact that it's a cheap Toyota, it's a good little peice of transportation with a good amount of legroom (although it's quite narrow) and is quite inexpensive. While both the xB and HHR are car-platformed, microwagon crossovers, the HHR is larger, more powerful, higher in quality, available with more equipment and is more expensive. They are both aimed at the same market, but two different segments. The xB is lower-end while the HHR is upper-end.

speaking of the Element. I live in MN and I've seen an Element driving around with the license plate "UGLYBOX". LOL

My fiancee likes them, but I don't. I like my future dark gray HHR. Can't wait to get my 2LT. Only 6-8 months.

Need to save, save, save. Plus tax returns, plus bonus from work, plus parting out my 99 SC1 and selling it. Should have almost half the car paid for right off the bat.

GRRRRR!!!! MY CAR!!! Oh well...I still have to wait. Soon though. As long as I buy my first brand new car before I'm 23 (so I have 10 months total).

Good for you, I am sure you will like the HHR. I have a 2LT auto and love it, I am getting 28MPG in everyday driving with 3000+ miles so far. The car is a dream with perfect fit and finish, much like a more expensive car. It also has a lot of bells and whistles that you don't usually find on a car of this type. Good Luck, hold tight you will soon have your HHR!

I toasted one. It was a younger kid with horrible reaction time. I left him at the light and he couldn't catch up. I wish we were at a track because I would have loved to see his 0-60 foot et. I would compare him to if you stuck a corpse behind the wheel and told it to launch. He initiated the race so it wasn't like he wasn't ready or surprised. At least that was my take on things, maybe the xB just lacks any acceleration. I have never driven one so I don't know.

(You're donna dig it, man!)

My HHR is just now broken in and I've been able to "hotrod" it some...let me tell you - neither the xB nor the Element have a chance catching an HHR! Today I whipped mine up to 105 again after shooting it off at the car wash - very quick, very smooth! Even at 100 it is still smooth and quiet inside.

As soon as we get some performance parts in...I'm going to be getting in trouble!

Long live the HHR!

Granted it's even smaller, I personally like the xA more than the xB, but I wouldn't own either one. I've sat in a few at car shows (never ridden in one either so my opinion IS bias), but the cost-cutting Toyota took is pretty obvious in the interior materials and the thickness (or lack there-of) of the sheet metal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it has the old Echo's 103-ish HP engine. The HHR isn't a fair comparison, only because it is exponentially superior in almost every respect, lol :one:

I just bought a Sport Red HHR LT 2 days ago. I have been looking at them for several months and finally decided to go for it. My previous car was a Taupe PT Crusier. I really loved that car, but it just wasnt big enough. I did notice though that the storage space inside the HHR is actually less than the PT. But that is fine with me. I am enjoying the HHR and so is my daughter. The engine is really peppy and I like all the extras inside, The price couldnt be beat. It actually cost 2000 less than my PT when I bought it 4 years ago. :)

Yes I did trade in the PTcrusier for my HHR. I am getting alot of people asking "is that the new PT Criusier?". It is actually kind of irrating when you have to sit explain. :) The one complaint I do have about the HHR is on the crusier you could open the back and walk up to the vehicle no problem. On the HHR I have hit my head about a dozen times, as I am sure alomst everyone out there has done the same . I guess it doenst pay to be tall. LOL In my area there are not many HHR's out. I have only seen maybe 3 or 4 in the last few months. I think that is why I decided to get one. I do get a tone of curious looks. If you have any good info about the HHR please let me know. Thanks, Dawn

i was actually looking at he 06-07 xbs then i saw the 08 and was omg i have to have it(just like a 14 year old girl) but they where around 5 thousand out of price range so i ketp looking for the 07s. then one day sitting at TGI fridays which is right across the street from a chevy dealer, and the waitress sat me in smoking cause i was just hungery and i didnt care where i sat, i looked across the street and saw the orange hhr and said "that is my new car, i dont car the price... i have to have that beautiful car... van... suv... thing" so i gave it its own classification the hhr is simply an HHR

Don't spread it around but I've actually owned 2 elements and have driven a rental xb quite a bit.....they don't stand up to a HHR in performance, looks or what you get for the dollar.....Me...I got simple and went SS.

There are a few xBs up here now (they are not for sale up here, just imported).

Whenever my wife sees one she's like "WTF is that thing!!! It looks like a box on wheels"

A guy I work with bought one for his wife and the license plate is LNCHBOX (Lunch Box).

I think the Xbs are ugly as sin an so is pretty much every other car that is considered to be in the HHRs "class". The Mazda 3 (I think) is not that bad but the PT, Xb, Dodge Calibur, etc.. all make me wanna puke.

I never understood the comparison. Can the two really be compared? I don’t see anything similar in the tow cars

From what I found out they are pretty much identical. That is if you are looking at them from economical standards.

2008 HHR SS (manual)

MPG rating: 21 city 29 highway
Miles on tank (average) 346 (16 gallon)
Annual Tons of CO2 Emitted 7.7
EPA Air Pollution Score 6 (10 being best, 1 being worst)

2008 Scion xB (manual)

MPG rating 22 city 28 highway
Miles on a Tank (average) 302 (14 gallon)
Annual Tons of CO2 Emitted 7.7
EPA Air Pollution Score 6 (10 being best, 1 being worst)

As you can see they are nearly identical. The thing that sold me was the 260hp in the SS and the 158hp in the xB. Considering all economical specs are the same... I went with the more powerful one. I had an xB picked out with a mod list that was about 1 1/2 pages. I added pretty much everything onto it and almost signed, but I went to check out the SS and was sold.

I think you forgot to add price. The xB is about 10 grand cheaper than an SS. The other thing is xB owners don't think their boxes are racecars!

Yeah once you add all those options they have the prices get very similar. And I do think that the new body style Xb is alot more comparible to the HHR than the old body style, but still nothing alike......

Well you can ask one of my buddies in the car club if xB's are better than HHR's. We had a car show last month and we both were placed in the Mini SUV Class. He placed 3rd and I placed 1st. Anyone want to take a guess on what came in 2nd? It's rhymes with Pee Pee Loser. He was pretty upset since his was tuned up and the PP just had a sub box in it. I gloated and busted his juevos! :one:

xb and all other wanna be hhr's i been doing alot of ebaying since i bought my 08 hhr here lately and i stumbled across a sticker that pretty much summed up the compitition to the hhr " I heart my toaster" to me that was just commical. i hate the element looks like an over sized match box car (thats right match box car it doesn't even get to be a good quality hot wheel ) the xb looks like a ten year old drew a picture of a car and they decided to go with the design for a car. i've ridden in a pt cruiser when they first came out the damn things are junk inside cheaply made. when i first seen a hhr running around town in orange i thought to myself and told the wife i said thats what i want, lil did i know a month later she would be pregnant lol beings i owned nothing that was child friendly for a car seat. it was set in stone 10 months later i have my baby boy and our new ride lol. havent got to drive my hhr yet cause of being in iraq but the few times i've test drove one i enjoyed it. its got more umph than my parents chevy tracker and defiently looks a $h!t load better. so sum up my rammbeling my wife is loving the car and im enjoying being able to make her happy. but soon she'll have to give up the car to the motor head of the family. oh i just cant wait.

Me? Well, I don't particularly like the newer 2nd generation XB. But the original XB was a "cult" thing like the old style VW. It's not fast (only 105HP) but small and light weight (2310 lbs). I've owned 3, and in fact I still have a yellow 2005 limited edition XB. I've owned a Silver one and also had a Limited Edition Series 1 Orange box. I'm 6'3" and had plenty of both headroom and leg room both as a driver and a passenger in the back seat. I will tell you that the 1st generation XB does have more room both for the driver and passenger than the HHR. That's where it ends though, the HHR wins in all other areas without exception.

I set in an XB once and was amazed that the rear had more leg room than my 99 suburban. I almost pulled the trigger on it ....then I drove by a chevy dealer and seen an orange thing sitting there,,and had to stop and see what it was.....end of story....
