View Full Version : Sirius
Antny 12-08-2005, 09:40 PM Hello,
I have the 2lt package with the built in XM radio.
I already subscribe to sirius and was wondering if there is anyway to replace the xm unit?
If not do any other members have sirius? and are they using the aux jack, or fm modulator?
Thanks
SIHHR 12-08-2005, 09:43 PM Since the Headunit is factory there is no conversion kit. I looked into this awhile ago. They do sell external devices. Thats the only way to connect. FYI- Welcome to Chevyhhr.net
DJNateGnau 12-08-2005, 09:49 PM Nah, If you want Sirius, You might look into getting a Sirius Sportster. (To Listen to Howard, I Presume?)
PS: Welcome to ChevyHHR.net!
SIHHR 12-08-2005, 10:16 PM I heard Howard is going to be on both Networks from sort of double cast.
DJNateGnau 12-08-2005, 10:19 PM New one on me, bro.
SoCalHHR 12-08-2005, 11:16 PM I had a bad Sirius infection once. Took some medication and now I'm all better.
captain howdy 12-08-2005, 11:21 PM I just saw a Sirius ad that said,"Howard only on Sirius" at the end.
DJNateGnau 12-08-2005, 11:42 PM Yo Howdy! You got PM!
jerij 12-09-2005, 04:04 AM I've wondered the same. By the time my free 3month sub is up, hopefully I'll have a better answer. Most of the HU's have a satellite receiver connected to them, as opposed to being "built in". It's at this point you would plug the Sirius in. Most of these direct satellite plug in units though are made for aftermarket stereos, Kenwood, Alpine, etc. There just isn't the market to design a sytems to interface with stock car stereos.
Companies like PIE, Soundgate, etc make a number of interfaces that allow you to plug in your satellite receivers but they aren't ideal. I had so many problems with the one in my Toyota I finally pulled the stock radio out and put an aftermarket in with matching Sirius receiver.
I too would like to use Sirius in my HHR, and eventually may be able to. Right now I'm going to enjoy the XM though and give it a shot since it's free for 3 months.

SIHHR 12-09-2005, 02:14 PM I take back my remark about Howard being on both. I overheard someone mention it. I looked all over online and found no source. Expect that Sirius is going to do this huge advertising for him
Antny 12-09-2005, 02:28 PM Yeah,
I think I'm going to get the sportster because of its size and plug it in to the aux input. My only issue is the antenna? I think the best way is to get it hardwired. Anyone else have any Ideas?
Antny
Antny 12-09-2005, 02:31 PM Has anone seen the dash kit for the starmate. I thought that might look cool if we can get it to fit in the car
SIHHR 12-09-2005, 08:06 PM Yeah but anything done will be aftermarket. If thats your goal then good luck. I'm happy with my stock 6 in Dash CD changer with XM for now that is.
Antny 12-09-2005, 09:41 PM No I dont want to go aftermarket, I would hate to lose the steering wheel control function. I think what I'll do is buy the starmate and get the antenna kit hardwired with my existing antenna and use the fm modulator for it. Thanks though for the reply. If anyone else has any better suggestions please let me know

SIHHR 12-09-2005, 11:31 PM I forget where, but I have seen a device that allows you connect an aftermarket radio and still allow you to use the Steer wheel control function. Its a special plug. I saw it awhile ago. Just do a search online for one.
crazybob 12-10-2005, 12:27 AM PAC part number SWI-X for steering wheel control adaptor.
Antny 12-10-2005, 01:27 PM thanks I'll look into that
SIHHR 12-10-2005, 06:55 PM Thanks Crazybob for supporting my claim
jerij 12-16-2005, 06:30 PM Hmmm... would this work you think? I'm not sure about the pin/bus on the 2006
HHR, but if it's the same as the 2005...

I need to email the companies and see what their experience is with the HHR.

I don't think so :)
We've been moving Sirius over XM at about 8:1. We've got thousands of Roady 2's sitting in warehouses...and they are priced at $9.99 currently. We haven't been able to stock a Sportster Replay or a Starmate Replay in about a month. As soon as we get shipments they are gone that same day. :)
And we push XM just as much as Sirius...we get a $25 kickback in profit margin from every XM unit sold and activated.
ILL2DEF 01-06-2006, 06:23 PM I got a Starmate Replay installed today. Love it!!

Yeah its just velcroed on. The Wu thing is actually a wood necklace I got at the Wu-Tang store in Atlanta. :D
captain howdy 01-07-2006, 11:47 AM Cool. I was having a hard time trying to figure out what scent the Wu would use for an air fresener.

I don't think I'd want to smell any scent Wu-Tang would give off. LOL

Looks good. You using the Aux on the radio or the FM mod on the Starmate?

Thanx! I'm using the aux, the guy that installed it said it was better sound. I originally had it inside the dash compartment but I didn't want to drive around with the lid up.

Definitely- aux. is the way to go. Not a big fan of the wireless FM mods built into the new units.
