View Full Version : 20" wheels on the HHR SlickHHR 09-11-2005, 10:57 PM I was wondering if I would be able to fit 20" wheels on the HHR? Does any body have a clue?? Kar Krazie 09-11-2005, 11:12 PM I think so. What size were the ones on the West Coast Customs HHR? HUSKYSHHR 09-11-2005, 11:16 PM im seriously beginning to doubt it! im not interested in 20's but im going with 18's. you must remember that these motors are not very big and its gunna be a big loss in power the bigger the wheel and tire.. so if you have the 1lt you may want to go smaller! 18's with 35 series and maybe even 45 series are not much bigger than the stock 17's with tires! 20's i dont think will fit becuz if you look in the fenderwell theres really not much room. but i could be wrong.. i have had and built many slammed cars and belong to a car club (negative camber) so i have experience with this problem and i just dont see the room there. i definetly say you wont be able to lower it if you slap 20's on there! Xplosuv 09-12-2005, 02:27 AM You can go 22's on the rear and squeeze 20's in the front and rub when you turn, or 19's will work. I put some 20's off a Caddy catera to see what it looked like, it fills in the wheel well but I want a lower stance with mine so Im going 18's wheelsee 09-12-2005, 01:57 PM this thread is worthless without pics... ~wC HUSKYSHHR 09-12-2005, 08:48 PM here ya happy! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v644/jgkikzazz/slammedlikeamofug.jpg hhr-ss 09-13-2005, 12:18 AM 20 will fit but Sean @ WCC says to stay with 19 all around. 22 on rear and 20 on front have been done with mods wheelsee 09-13-2005, 01:31 PM here ya happy! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v644/jgkikzazz/slammedlikeamofug.jpg I was really talking to the guy(xplosuv) that put the catera wheels on the HHR...not a photoshop... ~wC Phantom06HHR 09-22-2005, 07:00 PM well, the recommended tire size for an 18 " wheel on a cobalt is 225/40r18. going from the overalltire diameter, a 20 " wheel should fit easily with a 225/30r20 tire, which is made by bfgoodrich. this wheel/tire combination is identical in the overall diameter when compared to the 215/55r16 tire on the ls and 1lt. So, in essence, if the 18" does not rub why on earth would the 20", given identical rim widths? Ill let you know once mine gets here for sure ;) juicedhhr 10-09-2005, 11:02 PM I just installed 18"s with 245/40 18 tires. the wheel shop told me that they had installed 20"s on an HHR. they didn't recommend it because the tire sidewall would be so small for practical driving. They were also very limited in choice of wheel and tire at 20" that would fit. The tire they used was a 225/35 20. This tire would have a sidewall of two inches. I like the 18"s with a wider tire. But you can run 20"s with the 225/35 20 tires, but you must make sure of the wheel's offset. The different offset would make the wheel pop out of the fenderwell. juicedhhr 10-28-2005, 09:17 PM http://www.chevyhhr.net/gallery/files/1/3/3/JUICEDHHRsidecompressed.JPG I have pictures also in this the gallery under JUIced HHR. It is a Silverstone 2LT. http://www.chevyhhr.net/gallery/files/1/3/3/JUICEDHHRthreequarterrear.JPG The 245's are not significantly taller than stock. So they don't rub.... http://www.chevyhhr.net/gallery/files/1/3/3/JUICEDHHRthreequarterfrontcompressed.JPG Oh yea. I had a typo in the earlier reply. The correct plus size for 20" are 225/30 20, not 35....... SoCalHHR 10-28-2005, 09:53 PM Perfect size Juice! :thumb: I wouldn't go any bigger (but it's always a matter of taste!). I think I'll choose your size when I move up. Thanks. -Mike juicedhhr 10-28-2005, 10:13 PM thanks. You're right about the size. The tire shop told me that the 245 was the max..... I like the look of the 20"s, but for communting 45-50miles a day on the rodes in Houston, I think the small side wall of the 225/30 20 tires wouldn't have been enough to protect the rims against pot holes.... HHR-FordRules 10-29-2005, 12:02 AM THATS SICK!In a good way!Nicest HHR I have ever seen! juicedhhr 10-29-2005, 04:00 AM Thanks.... The shop that did my tires said that they had done one with 20"s. I haven't seen it around. If I do, I will try to take pictures (I keep my camera with me) and place in the gallery. jzchev28 10-29-2005, 10:10 AM wouldnt be my choice rims for the HHR, but it looks nice juiced SIHHR 10-29-2005, 12:38 PM  I love it badassHHR 12-02-2005, 02:31 AM stock overall tire diameter (16") is equal to the 245/30/20. His tire size is 245/40-18. 20's are going to ride like a rock compared to 16 or 17's. 18's are a great compromise. :thumb: inarmywpride 02-20-2006, 04:11 AM thankz for the help mike |
