Retro mentioned something about a Sept run up Mt Lemmon here in Tucson and lunch at the Iron Door restaurant. Anyone interested? Any dates better than others? TONS of places for some nice photos too!:thumb:

I would say close to the end of the month. I shold know more this week. IF all else fails I will have the rental. mikeguru 09-04-2006, 07:49 PM Sundays work best for us. Might be able to do Sat. 23rd. Later in month would help dbarberaz, so we'd lean toward then as well. john 11 09-04-2006, 07:58 PM Guess it depends on me getting mine back. I would say close to the end of the month. I shold know more this week. IF all else fails I will have the rental. We keep hearing about this rental. How about some picts? Glad you will be getting yours back in 21? 20? 19? Days. mikeguru 09-04-2006, 07:58 PM Where's your HHR? dbarberaz 09-04-2006, 09:17 PM Where's your HHR? Here you go Mike I hit someone who turned in front of me. http://chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4061 dbarberaz 09-04-2006, 09:19 PM We keep hearing about this rental. How about some picts? Glad you will be getting yours back in 21? 20? 19? Days. It is a Sandstone LS. I am not ready to count the days yet. But if I have the this rental much longer I may start making mods on it  Snoopy 09-04-2006, 10:47 PM This next weekend, starting the 9th, I'll be busy. Also, the last weekend, 30th, I'll have out of town company, so that would be "out" for me as well. Middle 2 Saturdays look good though.:thumb: Mike PMed me about this. I would probably make a looong week end of it and stay someplace in that area. Retroburban 09-04-2006, 11:05 PM  September 23rd looks good for me. It will just be a day run for us... will probably get someone to watch the boys so I can get away for a day. dbarberaz 09-04-2006, 11:08 PM If we go on the 23rd then we would also make it a day run. Having a get together on the 24th for the wife's bday en0oNmAI 09-05-2006, 01:02 AM 23rd sounds all right here too. What time did everyone want to meet up? From the base of Mt Lemmon it takes about 30-45 min with no stops. The base of the Mt is also anywhere from 25-45 min from I-10 depending on traffic. Mike and I are on the North side of town so we could meet you all someplace just off the freeway....i.e a Shell station or Circle K... Stop for fuel and if anyone wants a water or something... Just a few thoughts... I am also bringing my video camera this time and mounting the TriPod in the back seat to get some nice vids of the drive. dbarberaz 09-05-2006, 10:02 AM Let me run it by the wife and see what she has to say. If she doesnt want to then I will make it a solo trip Retroburban 09-07-2006, 12:33 AM We should try to find a place along the 10 to meet up and then go on into Tucson together to meet those already in the local area. I recently met a local orange HHR and am trying to get her to come along as well. As En0oNmAi asked, what time should we all meet? Thinking we should plan on being at Iron door about 12:30/1:00 is for lunch, maybe earlier? en0oNmAI 09-07-2006, 03:30 AM You all want to take pictures on the way up or no? We can do them on the way down instead as well. OH AND... depending on which Sat of the month it is there is a car show at Little Anthony's Diner here in Tucson too! Hot Rods and muscle cars but anything goes there! I can make a call. Just depends on how long ya'll wanna stay. I may have a friend from the car club come too. He and his wife love the drive usually! Just lemme know! dbarberaz 09-07-2006, 10:30 AM We should try to find a place along the 10 to meet up and then go on into Tucson together to meet those already in the local area. Thinking we should plan on being at Iron door about 12:30/1:00 is for lunch, maybe earlier? As far as a meeting place along I10 what better place than Ikea. Who can miss that place, or the Fry's electronics store along I10 on the way there. Just off Baseline and I10. Time? good question I am open to times so what all do we plan on doing? Lunch then the drive up the Mt. ? Snoopy 09-07-2006, 12:35 PM Lunch at the top sounds interesting. Especially if the pies are as good as Spaz, says. Jason...this is a Saturday. What is your "reading" as far as traffic up and down as well as how busy the resturant will be. Are we still looking at Saturday, the 23rd. Retro.... I'm thinking something like 8-8:30 at IKEA. Half hour meeting up, hour and half travel to Tucson, half hour meeting up there, half hour to Mt Lemmon, 1 hour to the top. This leaves a little "fudge". I MAY stay the night in Tucson......so, probably will not return to Phx. en0oNmAI 09-07-2006, 10:42 PM Sat traffic shouldn't be a prob. Most of the ML speed limit is 35 anyway. Shouldn't be much holding us up. Its not ski season yet! :D Retroburban 09-07-2006, 11:35 PM  hIkea sounds great for a good meeting place for those coming from up north, and the car show sounds like a good time too. I am not on any major time table, Mr. Retro is workng so I may be making a solo run after all, I'll get home when i get home! dbarberaz 09-07-2006, 11:40 PM  hIkea sounds great for a good meeting place for those coming from up north, and the car show sounds like a good time too. Snoopy That works for us. Ikea 8-8:30. Did you want to meet someplace around here and drive to Ikea? Maybe at the Kart here at 60 and power, or Starbucks on power and baseline? Reto that time work for you? Retroburban 09-12-2006, 11:05 PM 08:00-8:30 works for me. I didn't hear back from the orange hhr, so it looks like it will just be me. en0oNmAI 09-13-2006, 10:31 AM So the Tucson people are me and SSMike right? If ya'll meet around 8-830 and leave soon after that would put you on my side (read: FAR north side of Tucson almost Marana) Around 930-945 Traffic permitting. Did you want to meet someplace just off I-10? There's a McDonalds just off Cortaro and I-10. Wouldn't be hard to get on the freeway from there. Just trying to think of a way to get to Mt Lemmon. Mike maybe you can help.... would Ina/Sunrise to Kolb and across to Tanque Verde be a good route? Or should we take Grant to Tanque Verde? Any body else know a way?? A friend suggested Grant to Tanque Verde, but he said that route is really dependent on the time of day ...what's your opinion? Or he said if you don't care about the extra miles, take I-10....longer, but may be faster. rickremixx 09-15-2006, 01:27 AM yeah end on the month good for us we wouild like to try to drive up there from kingman to share some love for the HHR and our family of HHR owners en0oNmAI 09-15-2006, 10:32 AM Hey Rick... nice to see you joining us! More the merrier! Just so you all know I will be doing a dry run tomorrow. Heading out around 1030 and driving to the top and back... Can check and make sure the restaurant is going to be open and what kind of temps to expect! As well as traffic conditions and such. Snoopy... Grant to TV is a good route.. Pretty straight forward just a heck of a lot of street lights! I10 to Houghton would be a better route for less lights but it takes longer. Although it would be easier to keep the group together. As far as Tucson meet.... we can meet at the McDonalds at Coratro and I10. I was think the 930 time would be ok and if anyone else is bored and still waiting for the valley/kingman folks could grab a bite! mMmmmmmMMmmMMM eggMcMuffins..... not too good for health but good for much needed carbs! HAHAHA! Then after a stretch and greet we can head out onto I10 and follow it to Houghton (traffic providing it will take about 20-25 mins maybe less) and up Catalina Hwy to Mt Lemmon. Will post restaurant times and such maybe a copy of the menu or something if I can find it! Let me know how this sounds.. (you too SSMike!) and I will see you all then! Snoopy 09-15-2006, 10:43 AM Jason.... You are a PRINCE !!!! dbarberaz 09-15-2006, 12:23 PM :thumb: Good Job Jason you are right on top of things :thumb: I will be there with rental in hand  At least you can get a photos with another color HHR. Glad to see you are going to try and make it Rick should be a fun time and nice little g2g. Retroburban 09-16-2006, 11:15 AM Rick, glad you are going to be joining us! Welcome! Jason, you are awesome for taking the time to make a dry run to make sure everytihing is good for next weekend! Can't wait to see everyone next weekend! en0oNmAI 09-16-2006, 06:44 PM Ok so here's the scoop. Left at noon not 1030 and STILL made it up ML in 45 min base to restaurant. At the Ski Lodge they have pies, fudge, sandwiches and all kinds of goodies! I also ran into a group from a website called CIAZ.net... it is a Cobalt-Ion Arizona group. Granted they are a couple years younger than I am but a few seem interested to get in on our trip as well. Seeing as how the Cobalts, Ions and HHRs all have the same chassis (delta platform) thought this might be neat. I did give my suspension a run for its money though with some "spirited" driving. But at a decent pace (around 40 mph) 45 min up from the base. So if we meet at 930 and everyone shows up and leaves around 10-1030 we should make it just by Noon or there abouts. Hope this is some decent info for all! Snoopy 09-16-2006, 07:04 PM Jason... Thanks. That helps me. If I can get the rest of the "upstate Zonies" to leave our mustering area BY 8:30, we should see you, on the north side of Tucson, before 10. Leaving your muster area by 10:30 would put us at the top of THE LEMMON by noon.....correct??? Is that using I-10?? Then have lunch, etc. I might stay in Tucson Saturday night....probably at the Fairfield Inn near D-M AFB. So probably no rush to get back to the Phoenix area. en0oNmAI 09-16-2006, 09:57 PM Yes that is correct Snoopy. I will call Little Anthony's this week and ask about their car show. If it is on Sat night it would be something neat to see. Not a BIG show by any means but lots of hot rods and such. Its a 50's style diner, at the show they have a DJ playing songs from the 50's and 60's. Good atmosphere there! Snoopy 09-17-2006, 12:12 AM Thanks Jason... Been meaning to tell you....because of a post that you did on a thread a while back.....every Saturday there is an informal car show in 2 different locations here in the Mesa-Scottsdale area. Rods, dragsters, antiques, muscle cars, customs, even on occasion, a guy that does military vehicles. Trucks them in. Had an old Sherman Tank one time and a Bell Attack Helicopter another time. The Mesa show is about 4 miles from me. The one in Scottsdale is about 12. Then on Friday night "clubbers" have one in Gilbert. Remind me next weekend and I can tell you more, if you are interested. dbarberaz 09-17-2006, 12:25 AM Snoopy Did you want to meet over here and then drive over to Ikea? If I remember you live east of power road correct? Retroburban 09-17-2006, 11:29 AM Jason... Thanks. That helps me. If I can get the rest of the "upstate Zonies" to leave our mustering area BY 8:30, we should see you, Since I am so far North, I will be leaving my area by 7:00 to assure I'm at Ikea by 8:00. Rick.. are you coming in from Kignman that morning? We could meet you at I-17 and Carefree Hwy and head into Ikea together? Snoopy 09-17-2006, 01:19 PM Snoopy Did you want to meet over here and then drive over to Ikea? If I remember you live east of power road correct? Yeah, that would be good. Get there about 8....leave your house about 7:30 ??? You said your near Main and Power....I'm at Ellsworth and McDowell. Meet at your House and pony on. mikeguru 09-17-2006, 03:30 PM Hi folks. Sorry I've been out of touch. Still trying to figure out if we're going to a birthday party or the rally that day (the 23rd). Should know more later today. Jason's suggestions and "recon" are all excellent - McDonalds at Cortaro and I-10 is a perfect gathering point - easy access to I-10, plenty of parking, even good for a quick breakfast. The I-10 to Houghton to Tanque Verde route is a LOT longer, so I'd suggest Ina/Skyline to Sabino Canyon, Sabino to Tanque Verde, TV to Catalina Highway. It's a nicer drive, traffic will be light, and there are more places for "pit stops" along this route. (AJs at Skyline & Campbell has AWESOME eats, and gourmet coffee for 50¢ a cup!) Those who would like a map of the route I proposed, e-mail me: mikeguru@mac.com ("SS" Mike) en0oNmAI 09-17-2006, 06:21 PM Thanks Mike! I suggested the long route for less lights and less chance of getting people lost at lights. So its up to you all! Doesn't matter to me. :D mikeguru 09-18-2006, 01:57 AM Jason; we're definitely going, so we'll meet you at MacD's around 9-9:30. Route is still not confirmed, so I'll wait and see who wants to take the longer mostly-freeway southern route, or the more direct cross-town northern route. Whatever the gang decides is fine with us. I have made maps I can send via e-mail for both routes. My count is 4 from the Valley plus us two from Tucson so far? Please keep us posted. "SS" Mike en0oNmAI 09-18-2006, 10:05 AM Yeah sounds right as far as numbers go. Not sure if you all want the Cobalt people going. If you don't mind them coming along then I can get 2 possibly more to come along. dbarberaz 09-18-2006, 10:14 AM Yeah, that would be good. Get there about 8....leave your house about 7:30 ??? You said your near Main and Power....I'm at Ellsworth and McDowell. Meet at your House and pony on. Snoopy We can meet at the QT right on the corner of power and university at 7:30. That way we can get something to drink for the road. Just remember I will be in a Sandstone this trip. Mike, Jason IMO as far as routes go does not matter to me, but I think the easiest route be the best. Just me sure to pick an easy spot to meet up with you guys. We will be returning back to the valley on Sat. Just a one day trip for us. Family comming over on Sunday. mikeguru 09-18-2006, 11:06 AM Mike, Jason IMO as far as routes go does not matter to me, but I think the easiest route be the best. Just me sure to pick an easy spot to meet up with you guys. The I-10 to Houghton route is easiest. If everyone is OK with that, then please let me know if you want me to e-mail you a map I made. "SS" Mike Snoopy 09-18-2006, 12:05 PM Mike & Jason.... Either route is o'k with me. But, the I-10 route might be easier to keep 5-6 cars together. If there is a lot of traffic signals on the other route, we might get "broken up" or lost. Haven't been up on Skyline or the Sabino Canyon area in a while. remember it being kind of scenic, which would be nicce also. Up to Retro and Dwayne. If nobody else makes the decision, I'll flip a coin.;) ;) Dwayne.... Sounds good for the QT. I'll probably top-off there also. It's top-tier gas. Oh, and the spot the Tucson people picked for a "meet up" is great. Probably the first new developed area north of Tucson. I know right were it is at.......bunch of motels and Cracker Barrel is there....one of the wife's favorite places when we travel.  mikeguru 09-18-2006, 01:02 PM I know right were it is at.......bunch of motels and Cracker Barrel is there.... Sindy I would email Mike for a map but just head to Tuscon Az. :thumb: en0oNmAI 09-19-2006, 10:11 AM Sindy.. the meeting spot is right off I-10 and Cortaro Rd. You cannot miss it. If you really plan on making this trip unless you are in the area I suggest coming in the night before if you can. There are a few hotels within a rock's throw of the McD's. A LaQuinta, and a Days Inn are the 2 off the top of my head. It would be good to see you there! No one has said much about the cobalt guys/gals going.... anyone opposed to this or are they ok going? If not they were also going to try driving to Kitt's Peak. They just wanted a heads up. Thanks! en0oNmAI 09-19-2006, 12:42 PM This is info for the car show at Little anthony's. Nobody has really replied to your questions....SO, I'd say let's take the I-10 route around the city. Then will will not need to "match" every traffic signal, to keep people together. I will also say that I have no objection to the Cobalt guys coming along! Might be interesting....and they might provide some perspective. I will be staying Saturday Night at the Fairfield in Butterfield Business Park (I-10) and probably grab some "chow" with momma and then catch some of the car show you posted....do they have objections to smokers? (I like to have a GOOD imported cigar, now and then). I'm bringing my laptop GPS so we will not get lost:D . You probably read the previous posts, so you know the "Phoenix" peoples schedule. en0oNmAI 09-20-2006, 07:54 PM Thanks snoopy. As long as you smoke outside its a free country and no one can tell you otherwise. Nothing posted either. So not a prob with the ceegahr. Not sure where the Fairfield you speak of is at. Never even heard of butterfield business park. I brought the car show up cause I am going to try and put my HHR in it so I will see you there. And until saturday see you all then! And drive safe. Any questions I will be around here somewhere! Snoopy 09-20-2006, 07:59 PM Just so you know..... Fairfield Inn by Marriott....I-10 by D-M AF Base (you can see it, just north of I-10 on Hotel drive). I can get myself and the orange HHR that called me today to IKEA... I follow after that! I do not know Tucson at all, so I'm just along for the drive! See you all on Saturday morning! en0oNmAI 09-21-2006, 01:26 AM No one on the Cobalt thread has answered just a few calls out so it looks like they may not be coming after all. Who knows may show up! :D Glad to see we got one more from the valley. I am bringing a digital camera but my video camera may not be working. Hopefully it will. Then we can have vids of the drive and meet! dbarberaz 09-21-2006, 10:12 AM Retro You bringing the boys? Looks like we will have are 2 youngest along for the ride. Mt Lemmon is a pay to park kind of place... if you drive non stop from bottom to top its free since you are more likely to spend money at the restaurant/gift shop... If we want to park and take pics then we have to stop and pay money (i think its around $5 or so).... however, I have never paid to park here and they usually don't stop people unless they look like ricers. So the pay station is up to ya'll and there are a few places to get some gorgeous pics (windy point is awesome, you get to walk out onto a cliff like rock area and take pics) as well as places to get pics of the cars en0oNmAI 09-22-2006, 05:40 PM I will be leaving work soon and won't have access to a computer tonight.
