It is a Sandstone LS. I am not ready to count the days yet. But if I have the this rental much longer I may start making mods on it :lol:

This next weekend, starting the 9th, I'll be busy. Also, the last weekend, 30th, I'll have out of town company, so that would be "out" for me as well.

23rd sounds all right here too. What time did everyone want to meet up? From the base of Mt Lemmon it takes about 30-45 min with no stops. The base of the Mt is also anywhere from 25-45 min from I-10 depending on traffic. Mike and I are on the North side of town so we could meet you all someplace just off the freeway....i.e a Shell station or Circle K... Stop for fuel and if anyone wants a water or something... Just a few thoughts... I am also bringing my video camera this time and mounting the TriPod in the back seat to get some nice vids of the drive.

Let me run it by the wife and see what she has to say. If she doesnt want to then I will make it a solo trip

Sat traffic shouldn't be a prob. Most of the ML speed limit is 35 anyway. Shouldn't be much holding us up. Its not ski season yet! :D

A friend suggested Grant to Tanque Verde, but he said that route is really dependent on the time of day ...what's your opinion? Or he said if you don't care about the extra miles, take I-10....longer, but may be faster.

yeah end on the month good for us we wouild like to try to drive up there from kingman to share some love for the HHR and our family of HHR owners

Hey Rick... nice to see you joining us! More the merrier! Just so you all know I will be doing a dry run tomorrow. Heading out around 1030 and driving to the top and back... Can check and make sure the restaurant is going to be open and what kind of temps to expect! As well as traffic conditions and such. Snoopy... Grant to TV is a good route.. Pretty straight forward just a heck of a lot of street lights! I10 to Houghton would be a better route for less lights but it takes longer. Although it would be easier to keep the group together. As far as Tucson meet.... we can meet at the McDonalds at Coratro and I10. I was think the 930 time would be ok and if anyone else is bored and still waiting for the valley/kingman folks could grab a bite! mMmmmmmMMmmMMM eggMcMuffins..... not too good for health but good for much needed carbs! HAHAHA! Then after a stretch and greet we can head out onto I10 and follow it to Houghton (traffic providing it will take about 20-25 mins maybe less) and up Catalina Hwy to Mt Lemmon. Will post restaurant times and such maybe a copy of the menu or something if I can find it! Let me know how this sounds.. (you too SSMike!) and I will see you all then!

Ok so here's the scoop. Left at noon not 1030 and STILL made it up ML in 45 min base to restaurant. At the Ski Lodge they have pies, fudge, sandwiches and all kinds of goodies! I also ran into a group from a website called CIAZ.net... it is a Cobalt-Ion Arizona group. Granted they are a couple years younger than I am but a few seem interested to get in on our trip as well. Seeing as how the Cobalts, Ions and HHRs all have the same chassis (delta platform) thought this might be neat. I did give my suspension a run for its money though with some "spirited" driving. But at a decent pace (around 40 mph) 45 min up from the base. So if we meet at 930 and everyone shows up and leaves around 10-1030 we should make it just by Noon or there abouts. Hope this is some decent info for all!

Thanks. That helps me. If I can get the rest of the "upstate Zonies" to leave our mustering area BY 8:30, we should see you, on the north side of Tucson, before 10. Leaving your muster area by 10:30 would put us at the top of THE LEMMON by noon.....correct??? Is that using I-10?? Then have lunch, etc.

I might stay in Tucson Saturday night....probably at the Fairfield Inn near D-M AFB. So probably no rush to get back to the Phoenix area.

Yes that is correct Snoopy. I will call Little Anthony's this week and ask about their car show. If it is on Sat night it would be something neat to see. Not a BIG show by any means but lots of hot rods and such. Its a 50's style diner, at the show they have a DJ playing songs from the 50's and 60's. Good atmosphere there!

Been meaning to tell you....because of a post that you did on a thread a while back.....every Saturday there is an informal car show in 2 different locations here in the Mesa-Scottsdale area. Rods, dragsters, antiques, muscle cars, customs, even on occasion, a guy that does military vehicles. Trucks them in. Had an old Sherman Tank one time and a Bell Attack Helicopter another time. The Mesa show is about 4 miles from me. The one in Scottsdale is about 12. Then on Friday night "clubbers" have one in Gilbert.

Remind me next weekend and I can tell you more, if you are interested.

Hi folks. Sorry I've been out of touch. Still trying to figure out if we're going to a birthday party or the rally that day (the 23rd). Should know more later today. Jason's suggestions and "recon" are all excellent - McDonalds at Cortaro and I-10 is a perfect gathering point - easy access to I-10, plenty of parking, even good for a quick breakfast. The I-10 to Houghton to Tanque Verde route is a LOT longer, so I'd suggest Ina/Skyline to Sabino Canyon, Sabino to Tanque Verde, TV to Catalina Highway. It's a nicer drive, traffic will be light, and there are more places for "pit stops" along this route. (AJs at Skyline & Campbell has AWESOME eats, and gourmet coffee for 50¢ a cup!) That way we can get something to drink for the road.

Sindy.. the meeting spot is right off I-10 and Cortaro Rd. You cannot miss it. If you really plan on making this trip unless you are in the area I suggest coming in the night before if you can. There are a few hotels within a rock's throw of the McD's. A LaQuinta, and a Days Inn are the 2 off the top of my head. It would be good to see you there! No one has said much about the cobalt guys/gals going.... anyone opposed to this or are they ok going? If not they were also going to try driving to Kitt's Peak. They just wanted a heads up. Thanks!

Nobody has really replied to your questions....SO,

I'd say let's take the I-10 route around the city. Then will will not need to "match" every traffic signal, to keep people together.

I will also say that I have no objection to the Cobalt guys coming along! Might be interesting....and they might provide some perspective.

I will be staying Saturday Night at the Fairfield in Butterfield Business Park (I-10) and probably grab some "chow" with momma and then catch some of the car show you posted....do they have objections to smokers? (I like to have a GOOD imported cigar, now and then). I'm bringing my laptop GPS so we will not get lost:D .

You probably read the previous posts, so you know the "Phoenix" peoples schedule.

I was thinking about bringing my oldest. Grandma and Grandpa may keep the little one so we can have some fun! :lol:

Just a quick note guys/gals..... Mt Lemmon is a pay to park kind of place... if you drive non stop from bottom to top its free since you are more likely to spend money at the restaurant/gift shop... If we want to park and take pics then we have to stop and pay money (i think its around $5 or so).... however, I have never paid to park here and they usually don't stop people unless they look like ricers. So the pay station is up to ya'll and there are a few places to get some gorgeous pics (windy point is awesome, you get to walk out onto a cliff like rock area and take pics) as well as places to get pics of the cars

I will be leaving work soon and won't have access to a computer tonight. I will see you all tomorrow and bid you safe travels on your journey to Tucson! Happy motoring!
