Removal/exchange of air filter element

You want a how-to on replacing you air filter? Do you mean a CAI install when one becomes available? I've got vinyl instalation and all the way around full speaker install (with possible amp install, I'm still deciding) on lock. I will have them up in a couple of weeks after I get time to write both after the installs. We need more stuff to become available before the how-tos start rolling. Give us time. I know once the aftermarkets start putting more stuff out I will be putting more stuff on my HHR. After all I begged JonyyB for a how-to section and he came through so what kind of ***** woud I be if I didn't contribute? :D I'm sure other members will have up coming contributions as well. Also changing your oil is pretty much the same for every car. Its just the locations of things, filters, oil viscosity, and oil capacity change. I guess with the HHR you only replace the filter element because the filter is cast into the block. It was the worst with my '89 Grand Am, the filter was in the oil pan itself. There was a little door that you needed a special tool to open. I have never seen any other car like that in my life.

Yea, most people are going to wait till it worms up outside to do some of these mods. Unless they are lucky and live in the worm parts

I checked on the Helm's site for a service manual. They aren't available yet but you can get on a notification list as to when they are. These things can be quite expensive but if you do a lot of your own work and tinkering. They are very helpful.

I wasn't referring to CAI specifically. It appears the induction for the intake comes in thru the side panel of the passenger side fender. Probably as cool of airflow you will get anyway. I took a quick look (been working night shift, had the car for a week and have 120 miles on it) and the air cleaner element/housing looked "odd" to remove. I pulled on it a couple of times with no "easy" result. Will have to look more in depth later when I've had some sleep.

As far as the oil filter, just curious as to the socket size, O-ring reliablity on constant change, etc.

Jerij, the oil filter cap on the 2.2 or the 2.4 eng is a special tool {its some funky size} but you can get one from any tool truck vendor ie:snap-on, matco, etc as for as air filter removal take your car to the dealer and ask the service advisor 9 time out of 10 they will tell you. As far as oil changes go and this is for all who read this Take it to the Dealer! For starters figure what your time is worth and the cost of the oil, filter , chassis lube to do your car. Now after you change the oil you have to take the oil to a recycler {more time wasted} and thats if you do it right. Know how I know? let me tell you a true story. The other day we had a 2000 grand prix come in with 28,000 on the odometer man this thing was cherry! even the engine compartment was clean! The owners son who was in from college wanted to help his mother out by changing her oil and FORGOT to tighten the drain plug.......3 grand later she has a new engine. the moral of this story is if its under warranty let the dealer do it and not quickie lube or places like that, if the engine locks up because of what they did to it they will pay for it. if you do it you are on your own. Most dealers charge about anywhere from 10 to 25 bucks for an oil change and most have free ones for new car owners {our dealer does}. I cant tell you how many engines or transmissons we have replaced or rebuilt because of things like this happenning.

Well I do watch Stargate from time to time, and the Lord of the Rings was a very cool series of movies. But really I'm just a guy thats been the dealership biz for over 20 years and I want to help my customers any way I can. And if I can point a person in the right direction weather I make a sale from it or not it does not matter to me. The sad thing is that there are few professionels in my biz, just alot of employees. But if you have a question I will try to anwser it to the best of my abilitys. :D

The oil filter cap is like an inch and a quarter I believe. I have one in my box, just don't remember it off hand.

Hello everyone, new here. Have a LT2 that we bought in Nov. The dealer didn't have any on the lot at the time we wanted to buy, so we bought the HHR right off a train on the way to the dealer. The color is Silverstone, and so far so good. The wife drives it most of the time, but I have had my turn a few times.
What's up with the oil filter? I have not looked under the car yet, but have been changing my own oil for 40 years. Is it a pain to get to?
Thanks guys.

It's just a filter element, no canister. Its cast into the engine block.

Please let me know what you need to know. I have done a lot of after maket stuff to my hhr. I haven't done a rear brake conver. and I don't think i am. But I have a lot of other stuff so please let me know. I think off the top of my head the socket for the oil cap is like a 32mm or 34mm.

Thanks
