Sorry for the salt and road spray. Its not too nice here right now. :( I'll get a better shot during the day after I have been to the car wash. :thumb: My god that was fast SoCal!

The HHR is too silent inside from the factory. Of course they took measures like the quiet steel to make that happen. It doesn't sound that bad from the outside for a four cylinder.

I don't know. I'll have to test tomorrow and get back to you. I never listen to the radio so I didn't even think of checking. :red: Boy sometimes I can sure over look the obvious. I went for a ride earlier but I was stuck on listening to BHG.

Shit I didn't order On-Star because I hate that damn antenna. Makes it look like a RC car. I thought the radio antenna was in the glass, the On-star antenna is the long ugly one in front, and the XM antenna was the little flat one in the rear??

You sure about that. No other car in the Chevy line-up have XM and On-Star sharing an antenna, they each have a seperate one.

snksknr94
12-13-2005, 01:04 AM
You can get an HHR without that antenna, it has to be the On-Star antenna.

wheelsee
12-13-2005, 01:07 AM
I'm pretty sure they are the same...anyone with XM only care to comment?

snksknr94

I ordered with only XM. I'm 99% sure that the On-Star antenna is the long one up front. It has the same base as the On-Star antenna on the Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche, Silverado, hell just about the entire 06 line-up. The antenna in the rear says XM on it, and all GM cars come with the antenna in the glass now except for the Aveo, only the trucks still have the fixed mast and base.

snksknr94
12-13-2005, 01:14 AM
I just flipped through the 06 HHR brochure I have sitting here, almost every one it is missing the long one in the front.

wheelsee
12-13-2005, 01:23 AM
ok well lemme reiterate...

I have the antenna up front...

I dont have an antenna in the rear...

I dont have OnStar...

I dont have XM...

if I recall from the literature I looked at the XM and OnStar is the same(the rear antenna) but the OnStar has an extra stubby antenna...whereas the XM only is just the smooth base...

-wC

I wish I could test that! I'll have to wait until the snow melts. :D Nah, I know its not going to hit the sunroof. Its only a couple of inches long and made of billet aluminum so its stiff. I'll get a day shot later on.

My antenna is in the front in the center of the HHR on the roof. There is no antenna in the glass. It was really long and for the radio. I don't have XM or OnStar so the front antenna is all I have. As far as I know the one antenna in front is for them all. All I know is the stock radio antenna was long, ugly, and slapped your sunroof at high speeds. Now my HHR looks alot better!

Lots of places. Your paint code is 56/WA913L. It is on several Chevy vehicles not just the HHR.

I'm holding to my statements if only because I don't want the damn ugly antenna on the roof. I guess I'll know for sure in a couple of days.

captain howdy
12-13-2005, 04:00 PM
Damn it I keep forgetting something! Earlier during lunch I only checked FM. I'll check AM on the way home.

SoCalHHR
12-13-2005, 05:04 PM
Most of the HHR's antenna performance is in the cable - the HHR's is "twisted" and that is why it gets great reception even with no mast installed. AM reception will always fluctuate depending on your location, speed, and line-of-sight from the transmitter.

captain howdy
12-13-2005, 05:51 PM
I listened to some AM on the way home and once again I didn't notice any difference. I did notice that AM radio is boring! :(

can someone with XM post if they have the rear antenna...this is one of those things that will bother me...as I'm pretty sure that somewhere I read the OnStar/XM share the same antenna(the rear one)

-wC

jerij
12-13-2005, 06:40 PM
The XM has a flat(ish) square antenna. If you get the OnStar option, there is a "shorty" attached to that XM base that works for the OnStar.

This antenna is on the back of the roof near the rear deck lid.

Could I replace that XM attena with an Sirus one?

Most likely, yes. I'm not sure how the XM one is attached. All the satellite radio antennas I've seen attach via a "magnet" in their base that holds it to the roof.
The HHR one though, obviously goes thru the roof for routing. It probably has some type of screw base to hold it down. Plug the hole and put the Sirius antenna over it?

captain howdy
12-14-2005, 04:59 PM
I don't think it will make a difference. I take the HHR to a touchless place so it doesn't effect me.

SIHHR
12-14-2005, 05:25 PM
Sounds good to moe however. I was refering to Machine wash

captain howdy
12-14-2005, 05:32 PM
Then I would remove it. Aren't you afraid of all of the brushes and spinning things?

SIHHR

Should I be? I never had any past issues. The places in Staten Island use brushless tech.

captain howdy
12-14-2005, 05:38 PM
If it has the rim brushes then it could screw your rims up. I'm too afraid of one of those places scratching my paint all up.
