Sorry for the salt and road spray. Its not too nice here right now. :( I'll get a better shot during the day after I have been to the car wash. :thumb: My god that was fast SoCal!
SIHHR 12-12-2005, 07:33 PM What is that green thing around your mirror?
SIHHR 12-12-2005, 07:33 PM Damn that thing is small
captain howdy 12-12-2005, 07:43 PM What is that green thing around your mirror?
My cherries.
captain howdy 12-12-2005, 07:43 PM Damn that thing is small
Thats what she said! :D
SIHHR 12-12-2005, 07:46 PM My cherries.
Do they give you points like pac-man or is it an air fresh
captain howdy 12-12-2005, 07:50 PM <.......... lol! Its an air freshener that died a while ago. I like them so I keep it. Its punk rock!
SIHHR 12-12-2005, 07:55 PM I still have that new car smell
captain howdy 12-12-2005, 07:59 PM I hate that smell! I like cherry air fresheners. I have one of the hard disk ones that last for a couple of months tucked away. It takes me to a happy place while driving. :D
DJNateGnau 12-12-2005, 08:01 PM The sound of an engine takes me to a happy place.
captain howdy 12-12-2005, 08:06 PM The HHR is too silent inside from the factory. Of course they took measures like the quiet steel to make that happen. It doesn't sound that bad from the outside for a four cylinder.
SIHHR 12-12-2005, 08:07 PM Smooth sailing for me
SoCalHHR 12-12-2005, 08:15 PM Hey! Looks great CH! Glad you got it quickly (we try).
I see the install was a snap too!
Enjoy! :thumb:
captain howdy 12-12-2005, 08:18 PM Yeah, I figured no use for a how-to. :D Unscrew old, screw in new. ;)
SoCalHHR 12-12-2005, 08:37 PM Yeah, I figured no use for a how-to. :D Unscrew old, screw in new. ;)
You'd be surprised - I bet I'll get more than a few calls & emails;
"uhhh - how does this thing go on?"
:D
captain howdy 12-12-2005, 08:43 PM lol! Then I guess I should write how-to's for everything I do no matter how small a job or easy I think it is. Just in case being the helpful type guy I am. :D
SIHHR 12-12-2005, 09:16 PM LOL. I remember being in New Jersey where they pump the gas for you. I had to show the guy how to open the gas door.
wheelsee 12-12-2005, 11:37 PM so how is the reception with it?
-wC
captain howdy 12-12-2005, 11:50 PM I don't know. I'll have to test tomorrow and get back to you. I never listen to the radio so I didn't even think of checking. :red: Boy sometimes I can sure over look the obvious. I went for a ride earlier but I was stuck on listening to BHG.
wheelsee 12-13-2005, 12:22 AM and are you sure it doesnt come down and hit the sunroof?
-wC
snksknr94 12-13-2005, 12:50 AM Isn't that the On-Star antenna??
wheelsee 12-13-2005, 12:50 AM no the onstar antenna is on the back...
-wC
snksknr94 12-13-2005, 12:56 AM Shit I didn't order On-Star because I hate that damn antenna. Makes it look like a RC car. I thought the radio antenna was in the glass, the On-star antenna is the long ugly one in front, and the XM antenna was the little flat one in the rear??
wheelsee 12-13-2005, 12:58 AM nope the XM and OnStar share the rear antenna...
-wC
snksknr94 12-13-2005, 01:01 AM nope the XM and OnStar share the rear antenna...
-wC
You sure about that. No other car in the Chevy line-up have XM and On-Star sharing an antenna, they each have a seperate one.
snksknr94 12-13-2005, 01:04 AM You can get an HHR without that antenna, it has to be the On-Star antenna.
wheelsee 12-13-2005, 01:07 AM I'm pretty sure they are the same...anyone with XM only care to comment?
wheelsee 12-13-2005, 01:09 AM You can get an HHR without that antenna, it has to be the On-Star antenna.
I agree I dont have XM or OnStar and I dont have the rear antenna...but I'm pretty sure they are the same...
-wC
snksknr94 12-13-2005, 01:10 AM I ordered with only XM. I'm 99% sure that the On-Star antenna is the long one up front. It has the same base as the On-Star antenna on the Tahoe, Suburban, Avalanche, Silverado, hell just about the entire 06 line-up. The antenna in the rear says XM on it, and all GM cars come with the antenna in the glass now except for the Aveo, only the trucks still have the fixed mast and base.
snksknr94 12-13-2005, 01:14 AM I just flipped through the 06 HHR brochure I have sitting here, almost every one it is missing the long one in the front.
wheelsee 12-13-2005, 01:23 AM ok well lemme reiterate...
I have the antenna up front...
I dont have an antenna in the rear...
I dont have OnStar...
I dont have XM...
if I recall from the literature I looked at the XM and OnStar is the same(the rear antenna) but the OnStar has an extra stubby antenna...whereas the XM only is just the smooth base...
-wC
captain howdy 12-13-2005, 06:37 AM and are you sure it doesnt come down and hit the sunroof?
-wC
I wish I could test that! I'll have to wait until the snow melts. :D Nah, I know its not going to hit the sunroof. Its only a couple of inches long and made of billet aluminum so its stiff. I'll get a day shot later on.
captain howdy 12-13-2005, 06:45 AM My antenna is in the front in the center of the HHR on the roof. There is no antenna in the glass. It was really long and for the radio. I don't have XM or OnStar so the front antenna is all I have. As far as I know the one antenna in front is for them all. All I know is the stock radio antenna was long, ugly, and slapped your sunroof at high speeds. Now my HHR looks alot better!
fenris222 12-13-2005, 08:28 AM <.......... lol! Its an air freshener that died a while ago. I like them so I keep it. Its punk rock!
:p: You're wacko dude! Nice morning chuckle!
Fenris  :thumb:

How much has it increased your MPG? D'OH! Sorry, no coffee yet!
Fenris
captain howdy 12-13-2005, 08:36 AM Nice morning chuckle!
 Thanks, I try! :D
adamlowery 12-13-2005, 09:31 AM That'd be nice If I could get it painted metallic orange.
captain howdy 12-13-2005, 09:35 AM That'd be nice If I could get it painted metallic orange.
You can paint it if you like.
adamlowery 12-13-2005, 10:33 AM I'm trying to see where I can get the exact color. I'm thinking about just calling my dealership. They are really cool about stuff like this.
captain howdy 12-13-2005, 10:58 AM I'm trying to see where I can get the exact color. I'm thinking about just calling my dealership. They are really cool about stuff like this.
Lots of places. Your paint code is 56/WA913L. It is on several Chevy vehicles not just the HHR.
snksknr94 12-13-2005, 11:00 AM I'm holding to my statements if only because I don't want the damn ugly antenna on the roof. I guess I'll know for sure in a couple of days.
captain howdy 12-13-2005, 11:05 AM Yup, you'll learn! :D
captain howdy 12-13-2005, 12:36 PM Ok, heres a day shot:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture108.jpg
I did not notice any loss of reception.
DJNateGnau 12-13-2005, 12:47 PM Looks good!
SoCalHHR 12-13-2005, 12:54 PM Wow CH! I did not know there was a "Sun" where you lived! :thumb:
captain howdy 12-13-2005, 01:02 PM Wow CH! I did not know there was a "Sun" where you lived! :thumb:
Yeah but it doesn't help with the cold. :D All it does is blind you! As you can see by the the lovely blanket of white in the background.
SoCalHHR 12-13-2005, 01:03 PM Hmmm...sounds like a song; "Blinded By The White." :D
SIHHR 12-13-2005, 01:27 PM Captain did you wash the car in the am, becasue it looks much cleaner compared to the shot from last night
captain howdy 12-13-2005, 01:51 PM Nah, I think it has something to do with it being night time and the cameras flash.
SIHHR 12-13-2005, 03:24 PM Oh. Now I noticed the cherry. The picture from last nite just showed the green string.
captain howdy 12-13-2005, 03:33 PM I took the shot from a little further back today.
SIHHR 12-13-2005, 03:47 PM Yeah I noticed that too. I still cant believe the size of the attena. Do you have any issues with am?
captain howdy 12-13-2005, 04:00 PM Damn it I keep forgetting something! Earlier during lunch I only checked FM. I'll check AM on the way home.
SoCalHHR 12-13-2005, 05:04 PM Most of the HHR's antenna performance is in the cable - the HHR's is "twisted" and that is why it gets great reception even with no mast installed. AM reception will always fluctuate depending on your location, speed, and line-of-sight from the transmitter.
captain howdy 12-13-2005, 05:51 PM I listened to some AM on the way home and once again I didn't notice any difference. I did notice that AM radio is boring! :(
wheelsee 12-13-2005, 06:28 PM can someone with XM post if they have the rear antenna...this is one of those things that will bother me...as I'm pretty sure that somewhere I read the OnStar/XM share the same antenna(the rear one)
-wC
jerij 12-13-2005, 06:40 PM The XM has a flat(ish) square antenna. If you get the OnStar option, there is a "shorty" attached to that XM base that works for the OnStar.
This antenna is on the back of the roof near the rear deck lid.
jerij
wheelsee 12-13-2005, 08:47 PM thanks thats what I thought...
-wC
SIHHR 12-13-2005, 09:07 PM Could I replace that XM attena with an Sirus one?
jerij 12-14-2005, 06:00 AM Could I replace that XM attena with an Sirus one?
Most likely, yes. I'm not sure how the XM one is attached. All the satellite radio antennas I've seen attach via a "magnet" in their base that holds it to the roof.
The HHR one though, obviously goes thru the roof for routing. It probably has some type of screw base to hold it down. Plug the hole and put the Sirius antenna over it?
jerij
wheelsee 12-14-2005, 08:38 AM and switching the thread back on topic...I've ordered mine and hopefully will have it by early next week...
wooo first mod on the HHR..
-WC
captain howdy 12-14-2005, 08:46 AM You'll love it, I know I do! ;)
SIHHR 12-14-2005, 04:44 PM Within due time I will due the same.
SIHHR 12-14-2005, 04:44 PM Can you leave this attena one while getting a car wash or is it prefered to take it off.
captain howdy 12-14-2005, 04:59 PM I don't think it will make a difference. I take the HHR to a touchless place so it doesn't effect me.
SIHHR 12-14-2005, 05:25 PM Sounds good to moe however. I was refering to Machine wash
captain howdy 12-14-2005, 05:32 PM Then I would remove it. Aren't you afraid of all of the brushes and spinning things?
SIHHR 12-14-2005, 05:33 PM Should I be? I never had any past issues. The places in Staten Island use brushless tech.
captain howdy 12-14-2005, 05:38 PM If it has the rim brushes then it could screw your rims up. I'm too afraid of one of those places scratching my paint all up.
SIHHR 12-14-2005, 09:50 PM I created a new topic Car Wash Vs Hand wash
Airborne_Beachbum 03-27-2006, 08:56 PM Finally got my first mod. I the ordered the "stubby" Thurs night and it got to my house before I got off from work and school. I was surprised at the delivery time, basically only 3 days to get all the wasy across the country. Way to be on the ball Mike. Now on to balancing the checkbook and seeing about getting the Gold-Line springs.
TomsHHR 03-27-2006, 09:07 PM I give the SoCal Stubby 4 stars for a crash test rating on Deer. :one:
"Trust my testing method." :red:
This is one test I will not repeat for the certification.
dbarberaz 03-27-2006, 10:01 PM Mine is in the mail on the way here :thumb:
deadhead 03-27-2006, 10:15 PM Just ordered mine today, cant wait to get the stock one off and replace with the new :D
TomsHHR 03-28-2006, 09:57 PM Pic of 4 star stubby on my Orange HHR and after the crash test.

Firewatcher 03-28-2006, 10:02 PM Maybe that's the key........a stubby is holding everything together.
Airborne_Beachbum 03-28-2006, 10:03 PM Or the problem, maybe the deer was attracted to it.
Lee3333 03-28-2006, 11:06 PM How come your antenna stands up to deers, yet I somehow managed to crack 2 (two) bases?
TomsHHR 03-29-2006, 07:28 PM The roof had some dents on it and I know for a fact the deer went right over it.
dbarberaz 03-29-2006, 09:43 PM Got home and there mine was in the mail. Ran right back out and put it on.
Looks great :thumb:
Thanks Mike
SindyDix 03-29-2006, 09:52 PM For something that is just a few inches big, this thread sure has caused a stir!

Like they say size does not always matter :D
