I would like to purchase a set of 17" Winter wheels and tires for my 2006 LT. My local tire suppliers tell me that a 15" wheel and larger tire will work just fine and that 17" steel wheels are not yet being manufactured for the HHR. The service guy at the chevy dealer where we bought the car says chevy only approves of a 17" wheel. Anyone have experience with smaller wheels with larger snow tires? Thanks!

I ran into that situation when my son had low profile tires on his S10. This website has a calculator that will allow you to compare different combinations. http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp and http://www.csgnetwork.com/tireinfo4calc.html
Keep in mind that when you change the combination , it will affect your speedometer reading and if I'm not mistaken , if you get too far out of range, it can also affect your anti lock brakes.

Thanks for the reply. I'll check it out. I specifically asked the question about the anti lock brakes. Of course I was told it was in the acceptable range. We'll see. Thanks again.

The Tire Rack also suggests a 15" wheel and tire combo. Check out their prices. The wheel/tire comes balanced and mounted. They are usually pretty thorough about suggesting correct combinations. Check them out at:

For the record, I am buying 16" Bridgestone Blizzak Revo 1 snow tires to put on my stock aluminum rims. The Tire Rack has a $50 rebate on a set of 4 Bridgestone snow tires. The tires are $89 each.

Currently I'm trying to find the best deal on a 16" steel rim with snowtires for my SS. I really want to go local (Dunn tire) but we'll see how much difference Tirerack will be...
Anyone have any thoughts where I might score some 16" rims cheaply? It's my understanding that the Cobalt 5 lug and HHR are the same?
