I understand that the sub is an 8 inch. What size speakers are in the front and rear doors???

Also, I spoke with Crutchfield and they told me that if I replace the factory radio, it will disable the various warning chimes. Any truth to that?

Yup their right, and you can fit a 6 1/2" in the factory openings. I'm swapping my factory speakers and sub out for Audiobahn:

WHAT?! The Crutchfield rep didn't know about a chime adaptor?

Go to a real stereo shop. They'll hook ya up with the right parts...

I'm sticking with the factory amp and radio for now. Later on I'll swap everything out. I think the Audiobahns have more mounting depth than the Pioneers but they will fit. When I pull everything out next week I'll do a side by side photo and a how-to.

I don't think anyone has one out that will work with the 2006 HHR yet. I could be wrong because I haven't searched that extensively yet seeing as how I'm keeping the stock radio. I just haven't came across one yet.

Not to push it, but what about 6 3/4? I saved my 4 Rockford Fosgate's from my 93 Saturn SL2, and was hoping to use them.

I should also probably upgrade the sub amp. Due to the cold weather, I haven't had the chance to pull off the panal yet. Anyone know the size or power of it?

I don't think a quarter of an inch will make that big of a difference. You could always open the hole up if necessary. I know systems power is 260 watts total but I dont know how much of that is the head unit and how much is the amp. As far as physical size of the amp I don't know yet, but I'll measure it while I'm doing the speakers

Thanks. As soon as I get time (and hopefully warmer weather) I will also begin tearing things apart. I also want to check the panal that is on the passanger side to see if there is any usable storage space behind it (I built panals in my last car in each corner that had a locking door. It was perfect for holding an extra quart of oil and other small stuff and kept them from tumbling around in the trunk.)

I spoke with a SOUNDGATE, (they were referred to me when I asked Pioneer about an adapter). The man there told me that GM has a 'special' Pioneer receiver made just for them that is not the same quality as a real Pioneer. He also said that simply removing the factory head unit will not only disable the chimes, but other stuff. He said the 2 ways to do it are to bury the factory radio somewhere with all connections except speaker, or to wait for the special adapter to be made.

Scosche is working on the GM LAN adapter right now. As soon as they have it completed I will post info on the forum.

6 1/2" is the direct replacement size:

Those are the factory speaker rings that the Audiobahns are attached to. ;)
