GDZHHR 10-23-2006, 10:40 PM Thanks JonyyB! Doesn't get any clearer than that!
JonyyB 10-23-2006, 10:47 PM Thanks, it was always hard to pic a ride a what not. This will make it easier and fair for all
Z-Man 10-24-2006, 01:58 PM Now this is really fair So all every one has to do is Give a right up and have the vehicle in their Gallery. Great Job JonnyB.
(Outstanding way of doing things right )
en0oNmAI 01-08-2007, 12:41 PM So I have a question... Are we allowed to delete our original post and make a new/improved version with updated pics. (i'm always modding something and taking pics...)
courthousedeb 01-08-2007, 01:02 PM I don't remember seeing anything that says that you can't Jason. Either that, or you could edit your original post and add the new info. I'm sure JonyyB will address this question shortly and clarify it not only for you, but other members of the forum as well.

yep, whatever it takes to win
courthousedeb 07-04-2007, 06:24 PM JonyyB...can you please clarify what type of pictures you would like to see when submitting your ride for Featured HHR. While I realize that people want to show off the mods they have done on their car, I think it's also equally important that they take time and get some great scenic shots of the car as well. Am I off base here...as when I submitted mine way back last summer, that is what you said you wanted to see, so I spent several days taking Smoke all over the Denver Metro area. Not only did I have a ton of fun doing this, I met some really cool people asking all about the HHR.
In my opinion, we can all take pictures of our cars in our driveway...and I've taken alot of those myself. I will now go back to my corner and see what others think of what I have said.
Snoopy 07-04-2007, 06:41 PM Just my 2 cents (and that's all it's worth)
But, I don't agree with you Deb. The car is the issue, here. Not the Grand Canyon, some famous hotel, Statue of Liberty, or a WW II bomber. If someone wants to do this, that's great. But, I don't believe it should be mandatory....for that person to run all over their state to take photos to submit their HHR for the title. There is a thread for Famous Places...that's enough.
When someone submits photos, I do look for completeness (just me, but I remove "points" for photos of a vehicle in 2 different stages of separate mods....2 different grills for example), how thorough the submitter is in detailing (dirty wheel wells, mud on tires) the vehicle and the presentation (how it is placed).
No big deal, you don't win anything. But the overall completeness contributes to how much it means to the submitter.
JonyyB 07-04-2007, 06:42 PM You are 100% correct: :thumb:
Take a look at what we say every month:

It is about the pics and location!

Seems pretty clear, but there have been a number of "bending" the rules in these contests. When someone points it out they get attacked by others.
I can only imagine what the reaction would have been if someone told an entry that thier pictures were "low quality images or images in clustered areas" They would have been treated like they were stealing from children.

But wouldn't that "completeness" also mean setting also? If you're gonna go to all the trouble to detail your car its not that hard to find a setting other than a driveway or a garage.
SindyDix 07-04-2007, 06:48 PM If you don't like the 'settings', then don't vote for that submission.
If ya don't like what you see, don't vote for it. Seems pretty simple.
Snoopy 07-04-2007, 06:49 PM You bet.....by why make it mandatory????
Besides some people have veery impressive drive ways. Mine is about 1 mile long through manicured lawns and shrubs.....
Kidding.....
karen1953 07-04-2007, 07:26 PM Guess I will never submitt NEMO!

Jonel made the rule, we didn't. So as a mod are you saying the rule means nothing to you? That setting doesn't matter? From Jonels response above, it seems to matter to him.
Guess I will never submitt NEMO!
This is what I mean be people copping attitudes when anyone says anything to point out a fact or isn't being what they think is "nice". This is just a childish response. Even though NEMO would make a fine Featured HHR.
Like Deb said, anyone can just step out their door and take a few pics. What's so special about that? If Jonel wanted the most modded or nicest paint or anything like that he could just choose and then people who haven't done much to their HHR would never have a chance. But you put a clean stock HHR in a beautiful setting and get some nice shots.......then you have something special. I may be wrong, but I think that's what Jonel had in mind.
But like I say in my sig, I am often wrong!:thumb:
karen1953 07-04-2007, 11:49 PM As I said in another thread: no grassy nolls, no mountains, no hills, no river beds, etc. In Fl we have none of them to take pics to appease these rules. At least where I am. That is all that I ment not childish just being reasonable.
Maybe I should not have stated anything, but other have stated worse.
But to slam the HHR of the month and to say that you need a better pic,.......
This is where I am coming from. No one should be allowed to post in the HHR of the month till it meets with the Admin and Mods this way it will not be slammed after the fact. Done with the matter on both threads.
I mean no disrespect to all.
Airborne_Beachbum 07-05-2007, 12:28 AM Karen has a good point about "meeting with the Admin and Mods. Maybe a compromise is in order - submit your entry directly to them and they can list the HHRs that make the cut for month so that we can decide on them.
captain howdy 07-05-2007, 12:44 AM If we make it a rule that you have to take beautiful scenic pics of your HHR I don't think we'll have many submissions. ;) I'm pretty sure most of us aren't going to trek halfway around our state just to take pics for a meaningless prize on a small forum. Some of us don't have the photographic skill or equipment either. ;) What else are we going to find to bi*ch about when it comes to ride of the month contest? You don't actually own the HHR, your pics aren't pretty enough, you're not old enough, you have sponsors. Every F'n month! If I were JonyyB I would just do away with the useless ride of the month section just to shut up all the whining and complaining members. ;) If you don't like a ride, the person, their pics, their mods, or feel their submission isn't fair for whatever reason don't vote for them. It's that simple. Why start threads or dig up old ones just to bi*ch about someone else's entry? We all have our own personal preferences. ;) Like I won't vote for a stock HHR no matter how good the pics are. I'm not going start a thread to complain that only modded HHRs should be able to enter or that someone entered a stock HHR.

JonyyB was the first person to say something about the pics. I voted for the winner because even though I thought the setting sucked, overall, I thought it was still better than the other entries.
No one said it had to be some perfect setting, but no matter where you live, even here in the city, there are at least parks where you can get a background other than the inside of a garage or your kid's bike in the driveway. If you can't be bothered to put a little effort into it then just post your pics like everyone else and don't bother entering the contest. I like to see pics of people's cars that their proud of. But just because you take some photos doesn't mean they're good enough to represent the forum.
We have a but-load of sweet HHRs here and a lot of people do take the time to take nice pics. Some have outstanding rides but just take driveway shots. I like them both, but I place a little more weight on the ones who at least showed some effort to take good shots.
captain howdy 07-05-2007, 01:22 AM I guess I'm the opposite because I only care about the vehicle. I could give damn about the background. I like in car mags when they shoot against a white backdrop and say screw scenery. Then you're forced to pay attention to the important part.....the vehicle.
courthousedeb 07-05-2007, 01:34 AM I have some things to say...but I am going to run them by admin before posting them. All I did was ask a question as a result of a comment made by admin and I get blasted for doing so. It's obvious that in recent months things have gotten off track from the posted guidelines for submissions and some clarification is needed.
PS...what's the big deal about resurrecting an old thread anyway? It happens all the time here and is much smarter than starting a new one and creating more work for the mods to find the old one and merge it with the new one.

I actually agree with you 100%!:thumb:
But I'd rather see anything other than a person's crap screwing up the pic. You're right a simple/no background is best. Just leave all the BS out. Clean up your damn garage, put the damn bike away or at least throw it behind the car!
captain howdy 07-05-2007, 10:55 AM Sorry if I came across as a jerk but it seems like every month we have to complain about the winner or some reason why their submission is unfair. Both courthoudedeb and GDZHHR took some awesome shot of their HHRs for this site. But look at it this way using myself for an example, I suck at taking pics so all I can do is take the best shots I can. My submission shouldn't be rejected because my photos aren't up to par with people that are better photographers than me or have better higher resolution cameras. Secondly there is nothing cool or beautiful looking in Rochester. About the best I could probably come up with would be shots in front of some of the awesome graffiti we have here in Rochester. I'm not going to drive as couple of hours to the Adirondacks just to take pics for the site so my submission shouldn't be rejected because I can't find a good spot to shoot. Who cares if the shots are in a driveway, empty lot, or garage because the contest should be about the HHRs. After all it is a ride of the month competition not a photography competition. If I wanted to enter photography contests I would go to a photography site. To impose rules other than the ones we have laid out like size of pics and them having to be uploaded to the gallery would just be a shot to the heart of all of us that suck at taking pics and don't have anything cool around them. If we make this a photography contest rather than a car contest I'll guarantee the number of entries every month is going to drop to like one entry a month if anyone even submits an entry. Some members are taking all the fun out of the contest and making people not want to enter. I bet if we stopped complaining about the winner every month and trying to impose new rules all the time a lot more people would enter. Who the hell wants to enter when everyone takes all the fun out of it, takes it way too serious like there is a million dollar prize attached for the winner, and then we complain about whoever won? No wonder we only have 3 or 4 entries a month out of all the members we have. The contest should be as simple and fun as possible. ;)

Deb nobody called you out or dissed you in any way so how could you say you got blasted? Others stated their opinion on the matter. Didn't you say:
In my opinion, we can all take pictures of our cars in our driveway...and I've taken alot of those myself. I will now go back to my corner and see what others think of what I have said.
chingchonger 07-17-2007, 06:01 PM This contest sounds more like a photo contest then a car contest. The subject being the HHR, the best photo being the winner. I'm fine with that because it gives every person a chance to win regardless of equipment or color.
Vivid 07-18-2007, 03:29 AM Personally, I sit on the fence in regards to this topic. I do agree that the point of the photos would be showing off your ride. With that being said, if and when I were to do a submission with Punky, there is no way that any of my photos would be taken at the house. Too many local parks and other assorted "good-looking" areas that would make for a much better shot. I took one of Punky over the weekend with the Missouri River as a background, and was rather content with that. She looked good and the scenery looked good.
Anywho, that's my $0.05. Agree with me or disagree with me, it's your opinion either way. This is merely my opinion.

I think that's the idea. Otherwise only people who dumped a lot of money/work into the car to do mods would win.:(
I think, though I'm often wrong, Jonel wanted everyone to have a chance.
Ok, folks..here is the deal, spoken from someone that does not give a hoot(Censoring... now gotta watch what I say). I personally know at least three winners of the month, including the next one. I have been asked to summit my pics on numerous occasions. But, after seeing all the drama caused by this little competition, I decided months ago that I would rather not. I would really like too, I have been told many times that I have the cleanest Black HHR, the shiniest Black HHR, I actually clean the fender wells, the inside of the rims, the insides of all the doors, and wax them!! But, I don't take good pics, I have heard of past winners being lambasted for their poor pics. So there you have it!! By the way!!!!!! Have you all noticed that there are close to as many replies to this thread as there are votes for the winner of the month!!! There are so many rules, and so much criticism, many people don't think it is worth the trouble. Think about it...Todd (Uma)
c2vette 11-07-2008, 01:57 AM Sorry if I am being a bit dense, but I am still not clear on how to submit a car for consideration. Do we gather photos in Gallery, then submit all the info as stipulated to a particular "moderator" for qualification, along with the photo links? Also was the comment about no rolling hills or mountains in the photos a joke? (I assume it was, but just checking). Thanks!

1st upload your pics into your photo gallery here at .net. 2nd create a new thread in Featured HHR Submissions with your description and pictures. 3rd link your newly created thread into the appropriate Featured Submission Thread (now would be December's Submissions).
Choose locations wisely. Rolling Hills, mountains, water, etc all make great backdrops. Driveways do not.
