You should already have a bundle of wires feeding through the firewall. Just go through there.

Based on experience you have to be very careful when you poke a wire through. Usually there is some room to use a coat hanger to poke through the rubber grommet. But when you poke through a group of wires (wire harness) you risk the chance of affecting a major electrical item that could void the warranty and cost you money.

OK, so be careful while doing it. It easier than drilling a new hole and putting in a grommet. Not that drilling a hole is hard but if you just running a wire or two the easiest way is just to go for whats already there.

Yeah I checked it out and it looked easy to run a wire through

The large rubber grommet was perfect. Plenty of "Safe" room for a wire

Which grommet did you go through? I was trying to get some wires through the firewall this weekend, and the only grommet I could actually reach is the second one down on the drivers side. All that interior mat-stuff thats behind the pedals are a real pain in the arse, but I could not get a smoothed coat-hanger through that grommet from the inside, and can't reach any of the grommets from the engine compartment. never seen a firewall so "closed" up.

This bigger queston is: why do you want to run a wire through the firewall? If you need power, you can get it right off the center console fusebox. Just pull the panel off the passenger side and grab a circuit there:

Of course, if you're looking to add an underhood accessory controlled from within the cabin, I understand. :thumb:

Hope it helps,

Mitz wants a musical horn, so the horn-part needs to go in the engine-bay, and it's got 2 wires to connect to the control module. Power and ground I'd do in the fuse-box. Couple things tapped in there already :-)

get a loooong flat nose screwdriver ( i used one thats about a foot long) and punch a hole through the firewall. After you're successful with that straighten out a coat hanger, make a small hook in one end, wrap the wires you want to run through the hook once and tape it up. You can then run the coat hanger through the hole with the wires and get everything across with ease.

Check photo #5. That's on the drivers side.

Anyone wanna buy a musical horn?? Neither one of us is in any shape to lie across the inside of the hood and go FISHING....

It's easy, you can see that spot standing beside the car. I used an old coat hanger and chiseled a tip. Taped the wire to it and shoved it though the area that no other wires were going through. It takes a little effort and once you have it shoved through about 5 inches, look under the hood and pull it through.

cool! I'll give it another go this weekend

Actually you are better off making a small loop in the hanger, then wrapping up the piece of metal hooked around with electrical tape so it is not sharp. Then, once you shove it through the firewall, all you need to do is put the wire through the eye and then pull the hanger back into the passanger compartment. The cardboard piece over it is a pain, and so after running a few wires at different times, I just made a hole in it to make working there easier.

Lee, that was what I tried first, but could not for the life of me get the blunted end of the coat-hanger through the grommet to save my life. if it cools off a bit here, I'll try again this weekend. Reaching that grommet is a royal PITA :)

flat-head screwdriver will punch a hole through the firewall easily...

And probably make a much bigger hole than he needs. It's only a 10-12 guage wire folks.

didn't know the flathead would punch through the sheet metal :)

if you hit sheet metal you're doing something wrong...
