Been putting some more thought into the club/website idea and I have some domain name ideas.... if you are interested in being involved with the club, let me know which of the above do you prefer?

Nor-Cal HHR Club

Neither.

Why not www.ohiohhr.com (http://www.ohiohhr.com) , or some variant thereof?

.org is not a URL I would use for a car club.

.com is typically used (not always) for a commercial endeavor. I didn't see this as a money maker, just a club.

.org is more for organizations. The rules aren't necessarily hard and fast but I went along that line of thinking. Nothing says we can't get something else. I'm still in the trying to generate interest phase.

Thanks

That would be awsome. I'm in. ohiohhr.org sounds good. I've been noticing quite a few HHR's around town. more than the norm. There's even one that looks like Royalt's HHR hanging around. Thats always good to see

not being a jerk here

.net is probably most appropriate

Teech,

Give me some feedback as to why and I will be glad to add to add the option to the list. My research says org might be better.

Thanks for the feedback

My comment carried a few assumptions (please excuse the comment if they are incorrect): that your club would correspond MOSTLY over the internet and that you did not wish for the club to act as a entity within itself (generate its own revenue, sponsor events, etc.)

Orginally used by ISP's, the .net usually signifies the administration of a network. THe network that you are setting up is not of the same type, but a network nonetheless, where the prime objective is communication.

.org is typically used by non-profit organizations or incorporated entities. The difference being that the organization has a life of its own. The organization usually provides some type of service to its members aside from providing a forum for communication.

The difference between the two (albeit very small) is that .net is merely an umbrella for its function where .org represents itself. Many .nets become .org once the the network grows into a more formalized organization. An example would be the difference between chevyhhr.net and idealist.org.

To be honest, it doesn't matter that much; it really boils down to what's easiest to remember in the context of your site. Sorry for any disruption to your post; Monday morning before coffee...I can be a little anal

Thanks for the input. I am hoping that we will be more than just an online community and set up local chapters for meetings and maybe do statewide events etc....

It doesn't really matter, its just that .org was the first thing that came to mind. You would probably get 10 different answers from 10 different people as to what the right one should be.

Thanks again, oh, and no more posting before coffee ;)

And by the way, you a RI native? I grew up in Bristol and am a URI alumni. :)

Very true. It really doesn't matter and I feel like a snob for even commenting on it. :red:

Im not an RI native...just moved here in August. Originally from Gary, Indiana and spend some time in the nations capital before getting married and moving here.

No worries Teech. Its nice to see somebody who cares enough to even make a comment.

Funny, I used to live in RI and am now here in Ohio and you went the other way. At least the country is still balanced.

Take care and comment anytime!

Hey Flyboy,

Not too much... I have been watching the post and the survey. I am thinking about doing another post about what we want on our club site.

More news as the situation develops :)

I like ohiohhr.org. Besides that anyone intested in possibly doing a hangout in Dayton. The Dayton Airport Hotel at the airport always has car functions. The most recent onewas the Trans-Am meet.

All,

I have posted the site design for OhioHHRs on my development server if any of you want to take a look. You can see it here (http://clients.mikewarddesign.com/ohhhrs/).

I am looking for ideas on content too.

Let me know.

Thanks

I am trying to do something a bit different while trying to figure out how to do a lot of the same things. That probably doesn't make much sense but in my mind it does (a lot of stuff makes sense up there ;)).

When I find out the web hosts new pricing for 2007 I will make the site official and add some more functionality. If anyone has thoughts I would love to hear them.

All,

OHIOHHRS, the website is alive. Not much content yet as I would like to build it with your input, but it is out there. Take a look and let me know if you are interested in being a part of the community.

http://ohiohhrs.org

And for those of you who don't feel that .org is the right TLD you can also reach the site via .com and .net ;)

Ohio is ok but if your used to the city life this isnt the state for you. I was born and raised in NYC and moving to ohio was a shell shock to me. Alot of areas here dont even have street lights so at night im driving with my highbeams and fog lights trying to stay on the road

I know what you mean. Been here for nearly 17 years and finally getting used to it. The thing I miss most is the ocean. I was only 5 minutes or less from a beach for the first 28 years of my life.
