not sure if this is a repost, but we have been having some issues with the stock radio as of late. Sometimes, it will work fine, other times only some of the controls will work, other times non will work. any recalls yet?

Not that I know of. Out of curiosity, do you have the premium 6 disk system?

It's nothing major if it does stop working. You're under warranty so just take it back to the dealer and they will put in a new one. I went throght 3 stock 6 disc stereos in my Mustang. Discs kept getting stuck in it while ejecting so I made them keep replacing it untill I got one that worked correctly. Thats what the warranty is for.

True. And my dealership always gives me a nice rental car and I get to spend their gas instead of mine...hmm now i want something to go wrong. :p j/k

Has anyone else noticed the auto volume is a bit annoying and drastic in change. When you reduce your speed the sound seems to cut out all together. Has anyone else experienced this?

My stereo only has one volume, all the way up! :D I never turned on the auto volume. My past two stereos before my HHR also had it but I found it to be annoying in the past so I didn't even try it in my HHR. Plus like I said, at least 95% of the time I am at full volume and it still isn't loud enough for me.

What I noticed with mine is that there is not enough volume and the fade between front and rear is not the greatest. I think a better set of speakers in the back would remedy this. As far as reception, it is far better than my wife's '02 Mustang. No problems with it cutting out or anything like that -- so far.

Before you spend a bunch of dough on rear door speakers, read my post HERE (http://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=356).

Might save you some money - as the head unit is "lacking power" in the rear speaker outputs.

Hope it helps,

1) This is a repost
2) A fellow HHR member had a similar issue and there was a loose connection in back of the unit.
3) Thank you

Thank you for the feeback, adding rear speakers just is not in the budget right now,.

well sorry to say but this is not a repost. Here is a quick update folks- on wed of this week i went out to take the hhr to a buisness meeting. 100% dead car. No lights were left on, and no door was open. Found out the hard way that when there is no power at all, you cannot shift the hhr from park! Imagine trying to jump the car in a garage with only 8 foot cables, my god did that suck. After getting it up a running i drove it to the dealer as the radio had completely stopped working the day before, so i had planned on taking it in anyway.

So, the radio (premium 6 disc) is being replaced, and they are still trying to find out what caused the battery to die completely. On a side note, the turn signals stopped making the blinking noise as well. Hopefully everytnig will get fixed, but it is going to take until next week to know what has happened as the dealer is perplexed.

BTW, i had pushed down all the fuses when we bought the car, and i checked them again before i took it in, and they were all loose again, even with the fuse cover installed properly.

Ill try to keep you guys more informed as i know more.

Why would this be hard? It's just like starting any other car. The Red Positive cable goes on the "+" Terminal, and the Negative cable goes on the driver side strut tower bolt. Am I missing something from your post?

Yeah, it was in the garage. I assume he means the cables wouldn't reach.

exactly. both car batteries were on the drivers side of the vehicles, with the hhr on the right side, facing in :(

well, it turns out the radio was the culprit all the long. it was drawing power even with the acc turned to the off position. Replaced and everything is good to go

I have experienced a problem with my radio, a couple of times now when I have turned my car on, there is a very loud pop over the speakers, sounds like a short or a feedback problem. I thought that the first time it was because I was in the garage and it was the xm, but it has happened a couple of other times since then, out in the open. Any ideas what could be causing this? It only happens on start up and it is very sporadic.

Do you have the amplified premium system? It sounds like turn on thump to me but you would need an amplified system for that to occur.

There are a couple of things you could do to take care of it but seeing as how it is the factory setup and under warranty I would let the dealership repair it rather than trying to fix it yourself.

I was gonna say why didnt he just pop the trunk and jump it straight from the battery in the back...but then I remembered that GM forgot to include the manual trunk release...this is why I have one of these http://www.mobilemag.com/content/images/1506_large.jpg

The very basic AM/FM single disk CD thats only available on the LS? The one that doesn't even play MP3 CDs! If you have a 1LT or 2LT your basic stereo is the optional LS upgrade stereo. If you upgrade the 1LT or 2LT stereo you upgrade to the six disk.
