I was at work today discussing the different types of rims that will look good on the hhr. One of my co-workers advised me not to get rims on my car. So i asked him why he said that it messes up the car. Does any one know if this is true????

not a chance. but with that said, im assuming we are talking about rims that are a similar specs to stock. ie overall height, width.

That is a good one. I don't think the custom wheel business would be as big as it is if custom wheels "messed up" cars. I would ask your co-worker to define "messed up". IMHO I think your co-worker knows very little about cars in general and I would not look to them for advice about your vehicle.

Did you ask if you can have some of what he's smoking?

Ask him how it messes up the car.
The only down side of different rims, is that you will not regain the value of the rims upon trade/resale.

Within reason the statement is not true.

Now if you bolted a set of 30"s on there, I would say you will have some issues.

I would get more details on what he means...but he could be talking about going with rims and tires that are not the same size as your stock wheels. The only thing I can think of would be a problem with using a different offset or wider rim or larger or smaller tire size, that can affect the speedo and other mechanical parts directly associated with the front and rear tires. What I know about the details of this you could put in a thimble...and that may be the case with your co-worker.

I put 16 X 7" American Racing Casino wheels on my HHR at least 6 months ago and I have no issues whatsoever. I want RWL tires for my HHR and they only make them one size smaller and one size larger...and if I went either way that's going to affect the speedo and possibly other things, so I am staying with my stock tires until I find something that will work. ;)

Lot of the factory rims are "Hub-Centric" which means they are located on the hubs & fit that snugly.

Lot of aftermarket rims are only located by the tightening of the lug-nuts.

Which usually is not a problem.

Tell him without rims on your car it would ruin the rotors and brake drums.

sounds like your buds may watch too much home and garden and not enough..TRUCKS.. or HOT ROD TV..rims are what set the attitude of the vehicle..stance is everything...maybe Chip Foose musta stole all that money he made..ive been to SEMA..never seen a factory set of rims..maybe thet are referering to sensors in the rims..different size combos can be easily fixed with a power programmer..no big deal..if u dont own one(100$)for a cheap one..go to a garage..bring beer..only takes 2 minutes..

cheap-ebay-made-in-china rims could mess up the car if they fall apart

Rims like any other mod....If not done right can cause you issues.

Aftermarket rims done right will in no way damage your HHR or any other car/truck. I would find out if he knows first hand that aftermarket rims damaged something he drove......
Then avoid whatever shop he uses for rims and tires.....:D
