View Full Version : Adding letters to the Grill
Holmes Hot Ride 01-10-2006, 06:37 AM Does anyone know if the Avalanch letters that go on the back of the tailgaite will fit the top of the HHR Grill? I am also looking for any chrome or gold 3d lettering with afhesive to put the word Chevrolet across the front.
Firewatcher 01-12-2006, 11:09 AM I found some vinyl adhesive lettering on Ebay. Very retro looking. I just purchased and can't wait to get it onto my grill. Ebay item number is 4604328220. Just do a search and you will come up with the item. Scott Jones, the creator, will be putting more up for auction at a Buy it Now deal. His first auction for this was overwhelming! By the way, the grill in the photo is the seller's HHR.
1BadPig 01-12-2006, 11:14 AM That looks sweeeet and retro! Also, notice the color matching bowtie. :thumb:

The seller is a greedy a**hole so I decided not to deal with him. You're like a week behind on that sticker, there is a whole thread about it. Holmes if you do find them I think you should go with gold. It will stand out nicely against the chrome. If you put chrome letters on a chrome grill they are not going to stand out what so ever. I don't know how big the Avalanch letters are but you could always take some measurements and compair them to the amount of room you have at the top of the grill.

With the gold rim around it when you look close. If it was an actual different color chevy logo I might consider it, but the stickers that go over the bowtie end up looking like s**t. He took the shot from far enough back that you can't really tell.
Firewatcher 01-12-2006, 01:00 PM Yep. You are right. I missed the earlier thread, however, I still like it. Considering the number of items out there for the HHR, this adds a lot.

I like it also. :thumb: I was 100% sure I was going to get one off of him but I didn't quite have the same feelings about his "unique and special decal" so that ended that real quick. Thats ok, I decided to ditch that idea and pull a billet grill on instead. :D
iowa1960 01-12-2006, 03:15 PM I think that the upper grill from Carriage Works would catch my eye with that lettering...........hmmmmmmmmm
1BadPig 01-12-2006, 03:59 PM I like the etched letters on the SSR...

Howdy, I have found a reproduction add on from www.fillingstation.com that is an add on to the grill. www.caraddons.com carries the same 1950 grill from a Chevy truck. I am also looking to add the hood ornament for the same truck on my black HHR. I am like you I do not want to overdo it and I sure do not want some cheap look.
Thanks for all of your input.
jones2472 01-13-2006, 11:59 PM If you get a magnifying glass out and stare at it for a minute you will notice the gold rim, but no one does that so it will never be noticed.
1BadPig 01-14-2006, 08:49 AM Jones, are you the one who's selling the retro sticker for the top of the grill on eBay? How about a group buy?

I have listed a few things on ebay including the vintage/retro style decal. I made one for my HHR and then thought other HHR owners may want one also and possibly in a different color. The decal is reminisent of the 40's & 50's and sets off the grille. I was bombarded by e-mails from people wanting to buy these. I'm not sure what you mean by a group buy? If you want, send me an e-mail and I can send you some other pics. :thumb:
captain howdy 01-15-2006, 10:39 PM He means if enough of our member are willing to buy them off of you, you would give them a break. Like if 20 people commited to buying them you would sell them for what they are worth, not milk each one individually on Ebay.
Firewatcher 01-20-2006, 02:04 PM I got my lettering in. Beacuse it was warm out (above freezing), I washed my car, and installed the lettering. I think it makes it look more like my grandaddy's old Chevy pick-up.

It looks nice. :thumb: What did he charge you for the decal, like $100? :poke:
Firewatcher 01-20-2006, 04:06 PM No, the price was a lot more reasonable than that, and he currenly has a few more for auction on Ebay.
captain howdy 01-20-2006, 04:10 PM I figured as much It was kind of a joke refering to some emails that floated back and forth between him and me. I'm sure whatever you paid was way more that it is worth, but then again everyone sees the value of objects differently. ;)
