View Full Version : Running Board Lights
Gqsplack 01-12-2006, 09:52 AM Has anyone seen any type of aftermaket boards yet that has lights? I have seen kits for other makes in the past, but I am guessing that because the HHR is so new the some makeres are gonna first watch how it sells before jumping in. I did a little something  with LEDs I'll post the pics later today.
captain howdy 01-12-2006, 10:00 AM Add your own, Holmes Hot Ride has them on his HHR:

Running board lights are sold in generic kits and not vehicle specific to my knowlege. Before anyone says anything about my statement I know there are vehicle specific lighted running boards, I'm talking about add on light kits.
Gqsplack 01-12-2006, 10:50 AM That looks cool, can hardly wait to hear what will be said about what I did.

Keeping everyone in suspense huh?
Gqsplack 01-12-2006, 11:58 AM I posted a pic in the gallery, i couldn't get it in the reply. Feedback welcome.

captain howdy 01-12-2006, 12:50 PM Very cool, I like it a lot! Seeing as how you are a fellow New Yorker, do you worry about the cops pulling you over for using blue lights? By state law we can't use blue because volunteer firefighters use it for their lights and some police vehicles use it now. Same with visible lighting, its illegal just like wheel lights or led window washer nozzles. Are you not going to use them while driving or just not worry about the cops?
SoCalHHR 01-12-2006, 12:56 PM Dude, - he is a firefighter! ;)
captain howdy 01-12-2006, 12:59 PM Even if he is they can't just drive around with their blue lights on all the time. They have to be in route to a fire.
Markiemark 01-12-2006, 01:18 PM Looks GOOD!!!
My opinion, everyone has one, is that with the lights being low and on sides, less chance for them to be mistaken as police lights.
Why did he not get a fire engine red HHR and have a dalmation ride with him??
Tell them the lights are a safety feature, to light up running boards for proper foot placement, DOT mandated.
He is in good with the cops, hey Captain, you seem to have a lot of problems with police??
Looks like the HHR is in the firehouse...
Back to original thought, lights look good, not too much and matches the Blue vehicle. Thanks for posting.

I have no problem with them but they seem to have a problem with me. At least until they start talking to me, then about 80-90% of the time I get let go but there is that that small percentage of cops who are real *****s. You know the type, they have a badge and a gun so they abuse their false sense of power and control for whatever personal reason. I treat police just how I treat anyone else, that pisses some cops off because I'm not worshipping the ground they walk on and they take it out on me. I have known some great cops but there are a handfull that give them all a bad name.
SIHHR 01-12-2006, 02:04 PM Looks good to me
Gqsplack 01-12-2006, 02:40 PM I really encourage all comments I view it as constructive. I found out that it is LEGAL as along as its not flashing, obstructive to any other vehicles or mistaken as emergency personel. I double and quadrouple checked with the cops where I work ever since I read the thread on the stereo ticket. So unless there is something that says your ad on running board lights cannot be red, or blue, I'm good to go. By the way I just saw another HHR in my area, if your reading this...you saw the car.
captain howdy 01-12-2006, 02:48 PM Cool, thanks for clearing that up for me. Its kind of hard to decipher our laws sometimes so I must have been reading it the wrong way. I have always wanted to ask a cop about that and our laws regarding blue dot tail lights.
PerryHallHHR 01-12-2006, 11:47 PM That's a good idea, I would have never thought to add them to the running boards themselves. Some red ones would look sharp on my black HHR but I still prefer the stock look... Plus, I'm still debating whether or not to go back to the dealer and get the chrome exhaust tip. Well, I have time to decide...
jkahana 02-28-2006, 10:17 AM I am having lights put on my ride tomorrow. The company with the running board LEDs good for outside use is called Vista. Lights and installation only running me 100 bucks. not bad.
