View Full Version : IMCO T924 Question, for those in the know...
Nazramoth 02-26-2007, 11:35 PM I'm thinking about getting this muffler. Maybe not right away.. but perhaps further on down the road.
I like the way my car sounds, but at the same time I keep thinking that I want a but more of an aggressive sound to it, but not too much. It seems this IMCO T924 is the way to go, a lot of HHR owners certainly favor it.
My only question is, how does it effect the "inside" noise level? I mean, inside the car, is there much difference?
Wackaloon 02-26-2007, 11:38 PM First question for you is, which engine do you have?
If you've got 2.4, then T924; if 2.2, then T909. Wish I'd known that before I put the T924 on Nellie.
The T924 is set up for 2.5" pipes (size on 2.4), while the T909 is for 2.25" pipes (size on 2.2).
As far as the sound goes, I find it a little obtrusive, but not bad enuf to go back to stock. It doesn't sound "ricey".
Nazramoth 02-26-2007, 11:40 PM 2.2L Engine... which is why I posted my question in the 2.2L Forum ;)
Didn't know there was a different Muffler, as the T924 is the only one I've ever seen mentioned.
Applenut 02-26-2007, 11:45 PM First off, my wife and I both love it.
It is louder in the cabin, but I don't think it's obnoxious.
In my opinion, it's worth it.
herojoe 02-26-2007, 11:46 PM I have the T924 on the 2.2. Took a little modification for the welding, but it when on fine. The sound is barely noticable compared to stock. Not much louder at all, although it does produce a little more sound while gunning it, not even close to being obnocious.

Doh, Ishudda figured out dat dis wuz in da 2.2 area :red:
If you search for T909, you will find a couple of threads that adress the size disparity. The T909 is the one you want, it will fit nicely with no need for adaptors. It cost me an extra $25 bucks for the adaptors to fit the T924 into mine.
courthousedeb 02-27-2007, 12:20 AM I had the 924 put on my 2.2L and love it. No extra charge here to haveit installed.... Might want to check with local muffler shop...but I did purchase mine from them which could have made the difference too.
I don't find it obtrusive...but then again...I play my radio pretty loud too.
KY Dave 02-27-2007, 09:04 AM I love mine. A little more noise when you really put your foot into it, but that is good. Cruising on the interstate, there is no change.

Same here.

 I'll second this! I put the T909 on our 2.2 a few months ago. A bit easier fit than the T924 which I had, but traded for the 909. Looks like the same muffler except for the pipe size. Personally I like the tone, not loud at all. I even put one on my '96 Nissan Altima:thumb:
SoCalHHR 02-28-2007, 08:04 PM Actually, the 2.4L has a 2 1/4 pipe, and the 2.2L has a 2".
There's not mudh difference between the two at all. Any muffler shop worth it's salt can swage you up an adapter tube in 2 minutes:

You usually need a swaged tube for the 2.4L as well - because no muffler guy knows exactly "where" to cut the muffler off. A tube needs to be made to bring the muffler mounts back in line.
Just as companies like CGS only make one intake, we felt carrying just the T-924 was the way to go as it will fit and work on both engines. You are correct; the internal volume and design is the same on both. :thumb: The 909 won't perform any better on the 2.2L - it only keeps wimpy muffler guys from whining!
Hope it helps,
