Thanks In Advance For Your Help.i'm Wanting To Lower Asap So Want To Do The Right One The First Time.ride Is Also A Issue
HillsdaleHHR 03-14-2007, 01:30 PM Alot of people here have what you call the slammed kit. The Goldline level kit is new and I don't think anyone has it yet. The latest thread I can find of it being mentioned was from Socal and he is no longer in business: http://chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6207&highlight=lowering
The "slammed" kit was first generation Goldlines. I've got a set of 2nd gen GLs on Dory. Here are a couple of pics with both HHRs on 2nd gen GLs. The "level" kit would be the 3rd gen of springs. Don't know if they ever came to fruition though. If you stay with 17s there should be no worries at all. If you go up to 18 you should still be safe but off set and width may play a factor if it will be a problem or not.

ride Is Also A Issue
The ride on 2nd gens isn't much different than stock. I'm still on stock rims and original tread.

GDZHHR 03-14-2007, 02:34 PM I don't know if you can even get the 1st gen Goldlines.
I had them on mine with 16's. I loved them until I put on a custom exhaust with sidepipes. Couldn't even park in my drive after that. Sindy has triple lakes and the 1st gen and she will tell you you need to know your streets VERY well.
If you're going with 17's or 18's, unless you do something that will hang down, lower away!! I don't think the leveling will give it a lowered look though. I personally would go with the 2nd gen. Goldlines.
BTW, an easy way of leveling it is to put a couple hundred pounds of amps/subs in the back. Worked for me!!
sunburstchris 03-14-2007, 02:44 PM do the lake pipes actuall connect to the header and let out exhaust?

karen1953 03-14-2007, 02:49 PM Most of the people that I know that have the Pipes have them just for looks.
Very few have them in use in the system.

I love the look, Street Rod'ish and enjoy it this way.
There is a noticeable ride quality change, ESPECIALLY if you carry 4 adults or much weight often. I use for primarily for commutting, and it rides fine with just me, most of the miles is how I use vehicle, without much weight.
I did have some Rear Tire-Fender Rub, more notice-able with the after-market wheels. I had to modify, the inside lip of fender, some have rolled, I cut-back the lip some, Now NO Tire Rub issues.
Hope that helps!!!
larryv 03-15-2007, 12:53 AM Not as low as the GLines, since i went with 20in wheels the Eibachs worked out fine and the front end aligned up with no problems. I had to trim the rear fenders for the 20x8.5 wheels about 1/2 in on top. No rubbing in front and rear even with 4 people inside. Good luck. :thumb:

I believe the closer coils should be at the bottom. Derek, TCRNCOB's son did the install for me. Here's a pic of the gold lines next to stock......
hotrodharley 04-11-2007, 05:41 AM thanks jx3;;that is way i thought but wanted to be sure before doing it.
R CA HHR 06-07-2007, 01:40 AM has anyone tried cutting the stock springs to level the car? I've done that a few times with older larger cars and was wondering "why not this one too?"
Due to the way the HHR springs are wound, variable diameter and coil spacing, they are absolutely not suited to cutting to lower. If you just want to level the car, Gold-Line has a pair for the rear for just that.
About the only coils that this can be done on are ones that are "straight wound", with the coils open on the end (not flattened) and consistent spacing.
jerrbear 06-07-2007, 08:27 AM I recently lowered mine using leveling springs, looks good,rides nice, no noise.

betterof2evils4 06-07-2007, 03:02 PM Wow.. those springs look more effective than I thought they would be.. I might just have to get some of those. I would like to lower it completely, but roads are real bad around here. We even have bridges collapsing :eek:
solman98 06-07-2007, 03:07 PM cutting the stock springs
Never a good idea. Rarely can you get away with it. You kill the spring rate, even if you cut the right way. One of the things it's better to do right the first time.
R CA HHR 06-11-2007, 09:21 PM ya I'm going to just hold out for a set of the rear leveling springs, Any one sellin' a set?

06Daytona 07-06-2007, 08:58 AM Some questions from a new guy here.
- Are the springs the only component required to lower an HHR?
- How many different height options are there? I'd like more than just leveling, but I don't want it super slammed either.
Thanks.

Springs alone will do the trick.
If you can find a 1st gen set of Goldlines you can get a more slammed look. I was running those; looked great, ride was hard, not just firm, too low for when I added side pipes. Goldline's 2nd gen are not as low, no idea how they ride.
There are two types of Eibaches. I'm running the 'Pro-Kit' which is a nice dropped, looks great, ride firm and not hard, I can get in my driveway with my sidepipes. Eibach's other kit has more of a slammed look.
There are other companies but I haven't any 1st hand experience with them.

Does anyone know the height drops for the springs that are available?
I'd also like to see some pics of lowered HHRs with the 16" wheel covers. :cool: I just wanna make sure it doesn't look weird. :red:

Nice. What's the F/R drop height on your ride?
hotrodharley 07-09-2007, 12:03 PM they are 1.75" front and 2.0" rear
06Daytona 07-10-2007, 12:52 PM they are 1.75" front and 2.0" rear
I thought the GoldLine kit was 1" front and 1.6" rear. I'm confused! (not hard to do, btw). :lol:
hotrodharley 07-10-2007, 01:17 PM i'm not 100% sure what drop i ended up with..i'm just going by what goldline told me when i got mine..
06Daytona 07-10-2007, 01:27 PM OK, after checking again, this is what I found...
Goldline is 1.75"/F and 2.125"/R for ~$220
Eibach is 1.0"/F and 1.6"/R for ~$260
I'm thinking I may go with the 1"F/1.6"R drop. Not sure yet though. :confused:

06Daytona 07-11-2007, 07:46 AM Ya, I've got to keep in mind that my wife might drive the HHR from time to time, so if I go too low, she might not drive cautious enough over bumps. :roll:
Here's an important note that I found at SoCalHHR.com...
*AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT LOWERING: 1LT and 2LT HHR's use different size tires. The 16-inch wheels on the 1LT are smaller diameter tires and will cause the vehicle to drop much more (over an inch more!). The larger tire diameter of the 2LT's 17-inch rims will not show such a drastic drop. Please keep in mind that no matter which HHR you own, the Gold-Line springs will only drop it 1.80-inches in front, and 2.125-inches in back, from the stock height.

Although correct info, you might want to look at the differance.
215/55R16
Diameter=25.3"
Circumferance=79.5"
215/50R17
Diameter=25.5"
Circumferance=80.0"
It not that much smaller. .6% wont hardly throw your speedo off. The 17" rim just makes the wheel/tire package look much bigger.

Not too sure what the actual numbers were, but the 1LT got a fraction closer to the ground. You'd think that with how hard we worked to find what the difference was between the two, I would actually remember what the drop was.:roll:

betterof2evils4 07-11-2007, 10:15 AM :laughabov That's hilarious. I would have never noticed. What really gives it away is the steering wheel. In the left picture, it's farther away, as it should be. In the right picture, it's still far away, like a European car. Good eye, Solman.
Oh, yea... and the exhaust tip.
06Daytona 07-11-2007, 12:41 PM Holy mirrored images Batman! :eek: I missed it! :lol:
chingchonger 07-12-2007, 04:53 PM Which eibach springs were used on the Summit White HHR. Pro-kit or Sportline?
LONGHAIR 07-15-2007, 04:13 PM They are not mirror images like it is a PhotoShop trick.........It is the same car in nearly the same location at different times. Yes, one was turned around to put them nose to nose but it is not the trick it appears to be. Just look at the details that are not "mirrored", the expansion joint in the concrete and the placement of the garden hose reel are the most obvious.
R CA HHR 07-15-2007, 04:27 PM good save there longhair, also the wheels are not in the same but reversed position and the bump in the reflection by the front door handle is partly on the handle in one pic and not touching it the other pic, also look at the windshield from inside the car you can see it in one and not in the other. As for the exhaust tips, it would not be the first HHR with dual pipes out the back.
GDZHHR 07-15-2007, 04:32 PM I found this pic in the gallery too.

They are not the same pics, but one was flipped to give the nose-to-nose comparison. The easiest place to see this is the dark object over the hood; in the image on the right it is closer to the windshield than on the image on the left.
06Daytona 07-20-2007, 08:05 AM OK, this may be a stupid question, but, does lowering affect the warranty in any way?
