View Full Version : I'm so mad right now.....
sjssk 03-25-2007, 09:06 PM We took delivery of our new 2007 HHR LT last Thursday and noticed right away that the power sunroof was not working properly. We found fragments of glass in the tracks. Was the sunroof smashed and replace at the factory or dealership? No one knows?!??!! The good news is that they are willing to replace the entire unit. The back hatch also has issues, on Friday the dealership replaced one hatch stut, but the hatch still doesnt open smoothly and now after looking at it tonight, the hatch has TOUCH UP PAINT ON THE BOTTOM OF IT in two places. Two small chips directly on the bottom of the back hatch door...one far left and one far right. The chips are pretty deep and are covered in touchup paint (not even done nicely). I AM SO MAD RIGHT NOW. I dont pay $20,000 for a car with paint chips and glass in the sunroof. SOMETHING HAPPENED TO THIS CAR and no one seems to know what. What else may be wrong with this thing? How do I know the odometer hasnt been tampered with also. The rest of the car looks super clean and it only had the delivery miles on the odo when I picked it up. Am i obligated to keep this car or is there anything I can do to make the dealership give me a different car. If they wont do that, I definately want a brand new hatch and sunroof for it. I fell in love with this car and this is heartbreaking right now. You can bet I will meet them at the door in the morning when they open up. Ant advice before I go off on em?
ymerej_mortsdnil 03-25-2007, 09:10 PM I would be very mad too...
my dad works for a dealer in a small town,
so I mostly deal with them...
although I have never had these types of issues with my HHR.
I feel for you and wish you the best in whatever happens...

I would ask to speak with the Sales Manager then the Owner and if You do not get any were then call the Region the number in in your owners manual and get a Complaint Number and some one will have to find out what the hell happen, Sounds like this vehicle was damage by Mother nature their on the lot or in another state by a Hail storm. Good Luck

sjssk 03-25-2007, 09:26 PM If that is the case am I still stuck with the car no matter what??
usually in states there is a 72 hour right to return rule
check and see
i would take it back show it to them and say
take it back or reduce the price 4000.00 plain and simple
Z-Man 03-25-2007, 09:46 PM If that is the case am I still stuck with the car no matter what??
I don't think so , They have to tell you if that vehicle has been Damaged or in any type of Incident while on their property or during Transporting to the Dealership, Don't for get you purchased a 2007 isn't it New. Think about it.
Good Luck

oneton 03-25-2007, 10:06 PM HAIL STORM!! There would be more then a sun roof & two chips on the botton of the hatch!!!!???? as thin as this car is. I droped a small bic lighter out of my hand and it put a dent in the door!
Applenut 03-25-2007, 10:07 PM I droped a small bic lighter out of my hand and it put a dent in the door!
Be glad it wasn't a Zippo!!!
TomsHHR 03-25-2007, 10:36 PM Even if you are mad as heck, try to keep your cool, You will do better with the dealer and sales people.
sjssk 03-25-2007, 11:32 PM The more I look at it the more I think it is just sloppy paint work. The "chips" as I will call them are in the exact same place on both sides of the gates bottom edge. There are little rubber stops on the bottom edge and these "areas" are just to the out side of the rubber. There is a buildup of paint over these areas. Maybe they are just really bad paint drips or inperfections from how they painted the hatch . Anyway, it still looks like crap and I will see that they do something about it.
steven&cat 03-26-2007, 12:19 AM Dont forget,, these were made in Mexico,,possibly by illegal immigrants from S. America,, no, wait,, they have better control of their borders and deport or imprison border crossers. I digress............
sjssk 03-26-2007, 12:05 PM Update: The dealer showed me some of the hatches on the other HHR's on the lot this morning and they all have the same problem on the bottom edge. So it's not damage, just shotty workmanship on Chevy's part. They are going to wet sand the areas for me to make em look a little nicer and they are still going to replace the entire sunroof package that isnt working correctly. They went over the entire car to see if there were any signs of repair or repaint and didnt find any. My wife's uncle works there, so I trust him. So right now the only thing that we believe happened to this car was a broken sunroof, probably done while still in the factory and then the factory quickly replaced it without properly cleaning out the rails. Once they get the new sunroof installed I should be good to go!
krishaynes 03-26-2007, 12:49 PM While it sucks to hear that you got off to a bumpy start with your HHR, I am glad to read that your dealer appears to be doing their best to get these matters resolved.
I hope I'm not prying, but there was a conversation on another thread discussing the HHR's quality, and one thought that was raised was the quality of dealer service. It was said that faults with a car can often be overlooked if they do not recur, there aren't many problems, and that the dealer treats you with respect. It sounds like the dealer is handling this well(you'd hope so as family works there!), but how do you feel about the car?
Anyhow, I'm glad to see that things are being resolved.:thumb:
sjssk 03-26-2007, 01:52 PM I love the car. Its my first new car in 12 years, but when you lay down that much coin on something, you want it to be perfect. I know that is a fantasy, but all in all it's a good car and once the little things are taken car of, I think we will really enoy it.
The dealership made a comment that GM is making it harder and harder to get warranty work done. They said you really really got to prove to them that a car needs the parts before they will authorize it. So in a way, I think the dealerships want to give great service, but are hindered by GM in doing so.
On another note, the actual owner of the dealership did personally come out and look at the car today and introduced himself to us. He told the service manager to note the small paint flaws in the computer so if or when we did ever have a problem with rusting or what not that they would fix it.
krishaynes 03-26-2007, 02:19 PM Glad to hear you still love the car :D
Car makers cracking down on warranty work is a problem. The issue is that GM was forced to do this. When "warranty repair costs" are taken from quaterly reports by the press and then used to prove that you make good or bad vehicles you would be remiss if you didn't try to get as low a number as possible. It also doesn't help that a lot of techs would also milk the system to get paid as much as possible. Not ALL techs mind you! My brother was at a local Ford dealer where one of his co-workers did that all the time. Customer comes in with a squeak and they leave with a pile of work done. The Customer isn't paying so they don't care, the dealer doesn't care 'cause Ford was paying, but then Ford started to care...
Anyhow, I'm just happy to hear that your HHR is back on the road making PT owners jealous
Goose 03-26-2007, 04:56 PM The HHR I'm looking at was born on 1/15/07 also...other than these issues how is the car? Running smooth and A-OK? I don't want to think that the workers had a rough weekend and cars built on 1/15 have some issues!
I bet you all 07 HHR's more than likely have the paint thingy...you just happened to eagle eye it
Goose
HillsdaleHHR 03-26-2007, 05:51 PM '07 here and no hatch paint problem here! Now other paint issues yes :D
hhrcrafty 03-26-2007, 11:56 PM Easiest way to tell if it's a respray is to run your finger down the inside edge of the hatch. If it's rough, it's a respray. Factory paint is glass-smooth on the edges.
BTW, it's entirely possible that the sunroof was damaged and replaced at the factory, but it's more likely that it occurred during transit and the glass panel was replaced at the dealership w/o them getting all the glass out of the track. Sunroofs are tested when they're installed and during final process, so it's highly unlikely it made it through the assembly plant like that.
As for GM cracking down on warranty repairs, it's more like they're cracking down on needless repairs. In the past I've been to more than a few dealerships that'll say I need a full transmission rebuild at 33,000 miles, then I'll go to another and they replace a wiring connector in an hour and the problem's solved. The dealers have really bilked GM and their customers for YEARS on warranty repairs. That's why they say to never go back to the dealer out-of-warranty. They make anywhere from three to four times the hourly rate on out-of-warranty repairs, and it's also why a lot of dealers are selling other extended warranties besides the GMPP.
TomsHHR 03-27-2007, 12:25 AM The 06's had a paint thingie also in that mismatched panels were caught by some owners. any bad thingie is unfortunate/disappointing with the HHR/owners in general.
sjssk 03-27-2007, 09:13 AM I talked to a friend of mine last night that told me his brother worked on a line for GM and his job was to touch up known paint flaws as the cars came off the line. Did one of these such guys hit up the two spots on my tailgate edge before it left the factory? Maybe! LOL
krishaynes 03-27-2007, 09:20 AM Now that sounds like a crappy job. You find a flaw and fix it - people think you did a half-ass job building the car. You don't notice a flaw - people think you did a half-ass job! I guess the pay/benefits might be worth it. Just tell everyone you help build the LS7 if they ask, though!
hhrcrafty 03-27-2007, 07:29 PM They don't use "fingernail" touch-up at the plant. It's resprayed if they have to do it, and most of the time it's the guys who've been around a while and painted a couple hundred thousand cars in final process who are doing it.
My bet is still on the dealer.
