The flames came from www.dansdecals.com but they are not listed on the site anymore so I don't know if they are still in the business of doing car vinyl other than window banners. I bought them several months ago so maybe they have stopped selling them since then. It was a generic non vehicle specific kit that I trimed to fit my HHR. The flames are glass ethching vinyl so they have a ghost effect over the dark silver paint. There are tons of places that sell vinyl flame kits. I just looked around untill I found a flame design I liked that came in glass etching vinyl and that's the one I bought. The pinstripes and dice came from www.twistedchrome.com. They have several awesome designs so nobody better take my idea. The Audiobahn logos came with my speakers. The ChevyHHR.net decal came from JonyyB. I had a silver flaming Chevy bowtie window banner from www.SoCalHHRs.com that fell victim to a piece of ice. I'll have another one on soon enough, like over the weekend if the weather allows. I didn't want to put vinyl on at first but I figured it would hold me over untill I can afford to get a nice custom paint job. I have had lots of previous vinyl experience so it was easy.

Thanks. I will take better pics as soon as I get some sun and a nice day. :(
fenris222 02-15-2006, 07:57 AM Well deserved Capt. Yeah, where the heck is the Sun these days? lol
Skatetheglobe 02-15-2006, 12:22 PM Nice ride Cap..There isn't even sun in Florida right now..
adamlowery 02-15-2006, 12:24 PM There is nothing but sun in oklahoma
SoCalHHR 02-15-2006, 12:59 PM Normally sunny SoCal has clouds today...uh-oh, - can't let my baby get wet!

cjnappo 02-20-2006, 11:28 PM found your flames on ebay made by the same guy they have three styles i like 1 and 3 1 is your style and there the ghost flames im having a hard time deeciding if i should do ghost or true flames but i guess its all up to me and would you have a problem with someone haveing the same style flame as you
captain howdy 02-20-2006, 11:41 PM would you have a problem with someone haveing the same style flame as you
Of course not. It's not like I have a custom paint job and your ripping me off. :D You'll have to trim the wheel well but otherwise it's a decent fit. If you like them go for it. ;) At least you know how they look on a HHR unlike me when I bought them. I'll have flames painted on someday. I just hope nobody rips off my pinstripe though. :)
cjnappo 02-21-2006, 12:31 AM thanks man im just having ahard time deciding on ghost or realistic flames
captain howdy 03-05-2006, 06:07 PM I added a few skulls:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture244.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture251.jpg
Debadged it:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture253.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture256.jpg
Replaced the windshield with a PPG one with a manufacturer tinted glare strip:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture255.jpg
I also decided I needed to remove the Audiobahn logos, dice, and ChevyHHR.net decal along with the badges. To give it a cleaner look. I also put on another flaming bowtie windshield banner and took it right off. I looked at it and decided I needed to take a step back because my HHR was becoming too cluttered.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture254.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture258.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture257.jpg
I'm thinking of loosing the pinstripe also.
captain howdy 03-05-2006, 06:52 PM Pinstripe gone. ;)
SIHHR 03-05-2006, 09:07 PM Looks like you finally got the car washed.
Lee3333 03-05-2006, 10:38 PM Why did you remove the ChevyHHR.Net??? That is the best advertisement for this fine forum. I have mine up high on the back window, along with my SoCalHHR on the bottom. I wish I had gotten them both at the same time, so I could have put one on each side on the top, though. But, I believe in promoting what I believe in. And right now, that is this forum and Mike.
captain howdy 03-05-2006, 10:48 PM Nothing against the site I am a long time premium member. I put my new windshield banner on, took a step back, looked deeply at my HHR and realized I had gone overboard. It was starting to get a little to tacky for my own liking. I was getting away from my original goal for the vehicle but you don't know how things are going to look until you give them a try. I decided to go back to a more minimalist clean look. I stripped everything vinyl off my HHR except for the flames, I'll keep them until I get paint flames. I am quite happy in my decision. Besides the ChevyHHR.net logo at the top with the HHR third brake light decal was a bit overkill to the person behind me. Like CJ said I think I have found a theme for my HHR, skulls and flames.
SIHHR 03-05-2006, 10:53 PM Hey its your car man. Do as you please
Lee3333 03-05-2006, 10:56 PM Sorry, CH. I didnt mean to sound like I was imposing on you. And I know what you mean by the cluttered look-been there, done that.
captain howdy 03-05-2006, 11:03 PM Sorry, CH. I didnt mean to sound like I was imposing on you. And I know what you mean by the cluttered look-been there, done that.
Nah, I didn't take it that way. I just figured I would give a better explanation of why I changed so much today. ;)
SoCalHHR 03-06-2006, 01:05 AM Change is good.
captain howdy 03-11-2006, 06:45 PM I changed again. I stripped off the flames.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture264.jpg
And added a few skulls.
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture265.jpg

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture261.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture263.jpg
There is only two more things I need to do to the exterior. Add my red dots and install running board lights. I have everything I need it's just a matter of time and weather. The running board lights are different but you'll have to wait and see. Then the interior. Once again I already have everything I need for the interior. I think I'll rice out the interior a little. :D
SoCalHHR 03-11-2006, 07:01 PM I can't believe you ripped off the vinyl flames! (cha-ching!)
Man......now you're gonna need a new sig!
captain howdy 03-11-2006, 07:26 PM I decided even though I loved the flames I didn't like that they were vinyl. I figured pull them off now before any serious paint damage took place. I dont care about the money, I care about my HHR. Besides with all the skulls, the dark tint, and the shape and lines of the HHR mine kind of looks like a bad a** hearse.
ng8650 03-11-2006, 07:57 PM Just me, but I think the ride looks better now without the flamz.
Ng
captain howdy 03-11-2006, 08:06 PM Thank you, me too. I kind of broke a vow I made to myself when I bought my HHR. NO VINYL! I just wanted flames so bad that I figure what the hell, it's cheap and I can do it. Now I look back in retrospect I can't believe I put them on. :( If I want flames I'll wait untill I have the extra money and get them painted on. I don't know though, I kind of like the new clean look and don't think I want flames any more. Other than on the interior. :D

Skatetheglobe 03-11-2006, 08:51 PM I dig that plate frame..
captain howdy 03-11-2006, 08:57 PM Thanks, my wife hates it all! :D She especially hates the skull on the window. ;) My plan worked because now she refuses to drive it. She has seen everything I plan on putting in my HHR and thinks it is totally ridiculous. I just tell her I don't care it's my HHR not hers. Then she reminds me that I have to drive the children around in it, so I remind her that they are my children. :D My older daughter says hi to the skulls and tells me they are cute. :one:
Skatetheglobe 03-11-2006, 09:07 PM glad your plan worked..lol
AlienHHR 03-11-2006, 10:29 PM The real reason Captain took off the flames is because of the new paint job I gave him along with a few other mods he requested.

That's one patriotic mofo... :D

Man, those wheels are rank!
SIHHR 03-11-2006, 10:51 PM Captain I think ghost flames would look great with your color
captain howdy 03-11-2006, 10:52 PM They are Civic wheels. :D Special request! I was bored because my kids are in bed and my wife wanted to watch dumb cop shows so I figured it was a good time to go out and do something to my HHR. Pedal covers to fit my new theme. :D
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture267.jpg
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c122/amarini/Picture271.jpg
They are cool not only because they look bad a** but they widened the pedals. ;)
captain howdy 03-11-2006, 10:58 PM I really do like AlienHHRs paint job BTW.
SIHHR 03-11-2006, 11:01 PM You better not step too hard on them. You might drive fast. Please use caution.
AlienHHR 03-12-2006, 12:51 AM Man, those wheels are rank!
C'mon man, 13 inch Honda Civic hubcaps and a 5 inch lift! We're setting the trends here not following like sheep. ;)
SoCalHHR 03-12-2006, 01:11 AM I really do like AlienHHRs paint job BTW.
Eh...I like it, but if it was me - I'd tint the windows gold and the chrome green.
But that's just me.
SIHHR 03-12-2006, 08:56 AM That paint job is a bit overdone
captain howdy 03-12-2006, 09:05 AM You definitely would feel proud to be American with that paint job.
SIHHR 03-12-2006, 09:13 AM Oh yeah I would. But the green tint and the gold does not do it for me
captain howdy 03-12-2006, 09:24 AM Green is for the money and gold in for the honeys. Thats an old pimp phrase. ;)
captain howdy 03-12-2006, 02:39 PM I took the skull off my windshield. I decided it looked out of place without something around it. I think I am better off without any vinyl.
cj krause 03-12-2006, 03:01 PM these flames i like alot, look really good in person
this is a really nice SSR and he wins alot of shows when he is there and it is his Daily Driver

O6ChevyHHR 03-12-2006, 06:15 PM looking good keep us posted.
Jddrumman 03-12-2006, 09:01 PM Just curious... how did this thread go from Capt's HHR mods to SSR??
OR... are some of the guys getting really good at Photoshop! :D
captain howdy 03-12-2006, 09:04 PM I kind of wondered the same thing myself. With all of the changes lately and the changes that are coming up I should just start a new thread when I am done.
SoCalHHR 03-12-2006, 09:05 PM No matter - it WILL be hijacked! :D
That's one thing you can count on around here... :thumb:
It's kinda fun when it happens though...
captain howdy 03-12-2006, 09:07 PM But the SSR is purple.
Jddrumman 03-12-2006, 09:11 PM Yeah, I've done some "hijacking" in my day! :red: Guilty as charged... Sir!
But I must admit going from HHR to SSR is a complete 180. :D
Hijacking is fun... until someone loses an eye! :D :D :D
captain howdy 03-12-2006, 09:12 PM Yeah, a purple SSR.
Jddrumman 03-12-2006, 09:12 PM But the SSR is purple.
LMAO... Purple is not your color.. eh Capt.?
Jddrumman 03-12-2006, 09:16 PM What... skulls don't look very cool on a purple car??? (HHR or otherwise)
captain howdy 03-12-2006, 09:18 PM The only SSR I have actually seen on the road around me was that color. It's not too flattering on a vehicle. I like really deep purple on old cars but that's about it.
captain howdy 03-12-2006, 09:19 PM Yes, I like Deep Purple (the band) also.
Holmes Hot Ride 03-12-2006, 09:30 PM Captain, I really miss the flames, but it's your ride and you do what ever you please.
captain howdy 03-12-2006, 09:34 PM In the long run the vinyl would ruin my paint. ;) I have one small spot of clear coat damage on the drivers side door from them that I am going to have repaired this week. :( I should have stuck with my first instinct.
hottstixx 03-12-2006, 09:36 PM I think that the capitan had the graphics on His HHR just to get up there on the featured car of the month, after He got His status He pulls off His graphics, that's what I think ,it may be a CH conspiracy...No?

What does it do to the paint? Does it cause it sweat under the vinyl? I don't blame you for taking them off. Will you have the car painted with clear all over or just in the spot where the damage was done? Just curious.
captain howdy 03-12-2006, 09:48 PM Just the spot will be touched up. It's really tint, about a 1/4". No damage to the paint itself though. My theory is that I must have missed a small fluid bubble in there and the freezing and unfreezing caused the clear coat damage. It is the first time I have seen something like that. The big problem with vinyl is sun damage. After a few years of being on the car the vinyl starts to fade and looks like crap. Then when you pull it off there is a visual difference in the areas on the paint where the vinyl was. The sun will fade the paint at a normal rate but the areas under the vinyl don't get any sun so they stay darker. Then it looks funny because you can see the where the vinyl was so your only option is repainting the vehicle. I'll go out and take a pic.
Jddrumman 03-12-2006, 09:49 PM Yes, I like Deep Purple (the band) also.
:D :D Good job on sliding that one in there!
hottstixx 03-12-2006, 10:25 PM Used to be in a Deep Purple Tribute band, DP rocks, check out their most recent release it kicks ***
SIHHR 03-12-2006, 10:41 PM WOW This thread is still going a different direction. Guys talk about Deep purple in the lounge please. I know we like to change threads around. But this is about Captain Howdy's 2LT. Which kicks ass. Sorry just being a mod here.
captain howdy 03-12-2006, 10:49 PM Well I guess it's my fault for bringing them up. :red: I need new shots and a new thread anyways. :(

Sorry, I just made a quick reply back to Capt.

HHR DLYT 03-16-2006, 10:45 PM I like the skulls with the barbed wire :thumb:
Very cool!
captain howdy 03-16-2006, 10:49 PM I like the skulls with the barbed wire :thumb:
Very cool!
Just like my necklace tattoo. ;)
Holmes Hot Ride 03-17-2006, 06:16 AM I like the seat covers. It reminds me of the old Captain Howdy ride. Don't care for the skulls. Have you concidered going back to the flames? I know you would like for them to be painted instead of vinyl. I know you and your family used to love the flames. You are probably thinking. It's my ride and I will do what I want to. I am not being critical, just liked the flames.
captain howdy 03-17-2006, 07:23 AM I might still put ghost flames back on it someday except I am going to wait until a paint job is in my budget. As far as the skulls I have always been a skull type of guy. When I was single my appartment was decorated with skulls and leopard print. I currently have thirteen skulls tattooed on me and might get more someday. As of right now the skull count on my HHR is at eighteen. In all when I'm done there should be tweny five skulls on or in my HHR. I also have more lights to wire up. I didn't actually wire in the seat covers yet. For the sake of putting them on to testing them and for the pics I used the lighter adapter. I figured why go through all the hastle of wiring them up to a switch when I am just going to add more neon anyways. I'll wait untill I put everything in before I do the final wiring. Then after that is putting an amp on my sub and my red dots as soon as the weather gets better. It has been cold and snowing all week here.
SIHHR 03-17-2006, 07:31 PM Wow you really are into skulls why dont you get a custom Skull paint job on your exterior.
captain howdy 03-17-2006, 07:54 PM I'm saving that for my Malibu. ;)
