I am a stock kind of guy and would like to replace the base radio in my car with the upgrade radio. I am looking for anyone who has done an aftermarket stereo and would like to sell their factory radio. I am looking for the one that has the lines on the memory buttons instead of numbers, and has date feature etc. If you have one you would like to part with please let me know.

Shipped out! It's well-packed too in several layers of bubble wrap. And 1" thick foam cushions it from the box itself. Should make the trip without problems.

Thanks for taking it off my hands!

Enjoy, :thumb:

You might want to put a Want To Buy up in this section as well. There are quite a few members here who have replaced their stock radios with aftermarket HU's. I got my 6 disc from another member who was using his old one as a paperweight in his shop.

One thing you need to remember, is if you replace one stock radio with another, the computer will need to be reprogrammed. Been there and done that and dealer charged me $89. You might want to check with them on cost before actually purchasing one to see what they will charge. :thumb:

The radio runs through the computer on an HHR? That's complicated!

Yep it sure does. You can imagine my surprise when I got the new one in, turned on the car and the radio said LOCKED. :wtf: So I called Mike at SoCalHHR's and asked him what was up and he clued me in. It's my understanding this won't happen with aftermarket HU's and direct wire...but the trade off is that you lose some of the bells and whistles...most importantly connection with onstar phone connection if you have that feature.

Yes it is! The HHR uses a new low-speed GM LAN interface that connects the radio to the BCM, allowing audio chimes & buzzers to play through the stereo speakers. For this reason there has been a long delay in creating an interface for aftermarket head units that will allow the chimes etc. to function.

Scosche is working on an interface, but last word I got was - at least $70 and possibly November. At present, the only solution for replacing a HU is to "direct wire" losing all the warning chimes.

Which really isn't all that bad!
