View Full Version : How do you handle solicitors?
SindyDix 04-08-2007, 08:02 PM How do you deal with solicitors?
With a 'no solicitors' door plaque, a 'go away' door mat, a 'buzz off' door mat and a 'no religious wackos' door plaque, I still get door knocks. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind friends and such knockin', but really dislike knocks (and phone calls) from solicitors.
I have enabled 'call intercept' through my telephone service. I have to pay for it which sucks, but it has nearly stopped all phone solicitations.
I wonder if this will help for the one at my front door?

Firewatcher 04-08-2007, 08:41 PM My dogs bark every time someone comes to the door. They can be quite scary if you don't know them. Drives most solicitors away.
Z-Man 04-08-2007, 08:48 PM That will work just fine and if they don't leave, Then look what he will have for dinner.
dbarberaz 04-08-2007, 08:51 PM I dont answer the phone if I dont know the number. If it is somone who wants me they can leave a message and I will call them back.
Same goes for the door or I just open and wait for them to start and say nope and shut the door.
HonestBlues 04-08-2007, 09:14 PM I usually answer the door holding a short barrel pump shotgun. Then I say I thought it was my ex-wife.
Angel N Tinkerbell 04-08-2007, 10:35 PM We are lucky and don't get solicitors. It is against our HOA.

"blues".....
I actually did this one time and the #$%^&** called the County Sheriff. Had to explain I never pointed or raised it in his direction. The 2 officers tried to convince me it was not a good idea. I mentioned...I'm on my own property, that I live in the "boonies"(at the time), I don't trust anyone I don't recognize, and who would knock on my door at 6:30 at night.
I even pointed at the double barrel against the wall while I was talking with them. One wanted to "check it" and I requested a warrant to enter...so far a normal person would admit probable cause did not exist, so you can't enter without my permission. Anyway, after more discussion and radio communication with a supervisor, they left.
Telephone solicitors are prohibited if you are on the federal "do not call" list. When they do (which is VERY far between), I usually get all their info and note the date and time. I then advise, I'm on the do not call list, and advise them I'm filing a complaint....which will cost them $10,000 for each offense. They hang up immediately. I never seem to get a call back from the same company or solicitor.:thumb:
captain howdy 04-09-2007, 06:59 AM It depends on the situation and type of solicitor. I handle religious solicitors way differently than I handle salesman and people fund raising. I usually just f*ck with the person until they get sick of me and leave on their own.

I sorta like religious wackos coming to the door, I talk to them, see what their topic is, and we`re off to the races.
It doesn`t take long before they run away mad...:D
karen1953 04-09-2007, 08:19 AM Well 1st they can not get to the front door, unless they jump a 4' chain link fence, that has a 12' rolling gate at the drivway that is alwayslocked.
If they have done that I have a Iron Gate 10' feet from the front door, they can't get to the door.
So if they have jumped the fence and have gotten the iron gate, and can not get to the door, they start banging on a window, Then i get out my 30.6 and open the door.
They are poof gone.
The phone, just ask for thier work number so you can report harrassment and collect some money, I am on the DNC list. Oh well Life goes on.

That reminds me of what my son did one time. At the time he was like 16, outside with his little brothers. Well they stopped and started talking religion with him. They had a couple of kids and adults with them. The adults walked on to the next house. Some how they got on the topic of how killing is a sin and you will go to hell(I have no idea how they got there). So my kid being a smart @$$ he is said what happens when you kill an fly, or other bugs like spiders, is that not murder of one of god creatures, they looked at him like he was crazy. He keep tring to get them to answer and they never could. So finally he said well I guess we are all going to hell for killing something and walked off.
Funny they have never been around again.
Now dont go getting crazy anyone, just a 16 year old having fun with someone else.

I've done the undies thing before, too. As far as the phone, until I was on the "Do Not Call" list, I asked for their credit card number up front. I figure my time is valuable. THey don't call back much after that.
SandyBeach 04-09-2007, 07:20 PM Good news! I heard recently that those on the DNC list can no longer contacted for political contributions. I can't wait. The phone wouldn't stop ringing last fall.
