View Full Version : Smoke Going Back To Dealer
courthousedeb 04-12-2007, 12:43 AM Well folks...parts are in for Smoke, so I'll be taking him to the dealer in the morning to have the necessary repairs made. Will take a couple pictures of the armrests too when I pick him up. They said they would need to keep the car for about half the day.
I'll drop him off in the morning and they are going to take me to work from there. They also said they would come get me when he's ready, but my boss said one of them will run me up there when the car is ready to pick it up. Works for me. :D As you can see from the map below...it's not all that far...4.43 miles and about 8 minutes.

Hey Deb, make sure you get a before pic of armrest!:thumb:
courthousedeb 04-12-2007, 01:55 AM No problem Jay...I'll be sure to take one in the morning before I head to the dealer. :thumb:
karen1953 04-12-2007, 07:34 AM That would be a nice brisk walk. Good Luck!

It sure would...especially since it's 27 degrees outside.
sjssk 04-12-2007, 08:05 AM The dealer told me yesterday that they wouldn't do anything about the armrest because they said it is the position of my seat, not the armrest. They made both seatbacks sit at the same angle and the armrests lined up perfectly. I'm sure the seat is now in an extremely uncomfortable driving position. So I asked why did GM put out a service paper on it if it isn't a problem. The guy just shrugged his shoulders and went on to the next issue.....

Call GM ! That is BS !!!!!!!!!!!

Snoopy 04-12-2007, 01:23 PM sjssk....
The dealer is ABSOLUTELY correct. It is the position of your seat. BUT, that is exactly what the TSB is created to repair. GM (for once) said oops, a lot of people don't drive with the seat tilted that far back. We need to repair that. At least that is what I was told.
Impress upon the dealer that you sit "posture correct", and and NOT in the position they are insisting (why would GM make seats adjustable if everyone sat the same. The arm rest needs to be in alignment with the seat position. No results .....call the Customer Service people and explain your situation and then ask to issue a complaint. Be polite, but firm...regarding no satisfaction from the dealer.

I was told the same thing. Then they proceeded to adjust the seat up/down/forward/backward and tell me it was a "geometry thing" and that the seat had to be in the proper position for the armrest to match up with the passenger side. I really don't want to be laying in the back seat to have the armrest in the correct position. Moving on to another dealer with a bigger service dept. This time I'm taking a copy of the service bulletin to show them exactly what I'm talking about.
sjssk 04-12-2007, 02:10 PM I just emailed the TSB to them...... I know they didnt have any power this morning (tree branch took out a substation), hopefully when the juice comes back on they will check their email.....
ymerej_mortsdnil 04-12-2007, 02:11 PM Sounds like someone like me must have designed the armrest, 'cause mine sit even with each other. I am 6' 2 and I 'lean back' when I drive, it is what is comfortable for me, it has always been a joke to those who ride with me. I just feel sorry for those that have to sit BEHIND me!
courthousedeb 04-12-2007, 02:23 PM Well...good news and bad news.
The dealership called and "Smoke" is ready to be picked up.
Bad news is...they were shipped 2 passenger side armrests and no drivers side. So...they are ordering the right part and I'll have to go back next week and have them put it on when it comes in. Guy said it would only take 15 minutes when it does come in though and I can wait for it.
I've got some before pictures of the armrests and will upload them when I get home. Poor guy felt really bad about the parts...told him to save it and use it on the next one.
courthousedeb 04-12-2007, 07:25 PM JX3...here's a look at the armrests as they are now...one from each side.
The dealer was really apologetic about the proper part not being there. They said the drivers side one definitely wasn't right and I would see a definite improvement. I keep my seat in a pretty upright position and as you can see by the picture, it's definitely pointing in a southerly direction.
I haven't turned the air on yet to check it out, but will before I take it back next week when the parts come in. Supposed to get anywhere from 4-12" of snow tonight and tomorrow and then it's supposed to be in the 60's on Saturday. Go figure....gotta love the Colorado weather.

Black Rose 04-12-2007, 08:07 PM Deb, that looks exactly like what mine is like (drivers side).
I keep my seat pretty much upright due to arthritis and back problems. Currently the arm rest is useless for me.
I'll probably take Spyro in next week to get 4 TSBs addressed, the arm rests being one of them.
TomsHHR 04-12-2007, 11:06 PM I got my new arm rest tuesday, it does help but the mechanic is gonna be cleaning up his mess off the armrests and the seats.. Yes the new rests are better.
calgaryhhr 04-12-2007, 11:14 PM Question about the armrests... I've seen a few pictures now where the drivers side slopes way down but all the pictures seem to have been from vehicles with cloth seats. Anyone with leather have this sort of problem? I know the TSB covered all seats but it seems like the cloth ones are really bad.
courthousedeb 04-17-2007, 07:42 PM Update...got a call from the dealer that the new part was in so I stopped by after work to have them install it. Well...lo and behold, it isn't any better...in fact the guy thinks it's worse than before with the new part. The Service Advisor said he was going to call GM and see what could be done about it. He said that he would call me when he got an answer from them in the next day or two. He said since it wasn't that way when I got the car, they would make it right, even if it meant putting in a new seat.
JESSE 04-17-2007, 07:45 PM Thats kool, but I am sure still a headache! Good luck!

I've got leather seats & yes it has this problem. I'll call the dealer soon.

Sounds like you have a great dealer. Glad they are willing to work with you and get the problem fixed.
Goose 04-17-2007, 08:26 PM Wow that is a let down after expecting it to be fixed...at least they are attempting to make it right..Tom could you post a pic?
Goose
TomsHHR 04-17-2007, 08:41 PM The driver side on mine is 200% better than the original one.
Now they both are even with both seats back one notch.
Both of mine were like the lower one on Debs Pic.

Blondie 04-17-2007, 09:11 PM My armrests seem to be even and okay so far. It goes into dealer tomorrow for water leak. Crossing fingers they fix it right the first time.
I like the rims on "Smoke"
DEEREBILT 04-17-2007, 09:17 PM I Got My Armrests On Both Sides Under Warranty No Discussion And They Are More Comfortable Now.
TomsHHR 04-17-2007, 09:45 PM My Dealer just got them for me, no arguing.
courthousedeb 04-18-2007, 12:01 AM Thanks for posting the pic Tom. Sure thought it was weird that it didn't fix mine. Guess I'll just wait and see what the dealer says. There's definitely something amiss with mine.
Blondie...thanks for the compliment on the rims. They are 16" American Casino Racing wheels. :thumb:
Goose 04-18-2007, 06:29 AM Now is this just for 06's? I know they have ebony listed as color but on the original TSB I only saw 06 listed. If I end up buying a 07 it sure as heck will have this fixed even before it leaves the lot
Goose
Black Rose 04-18-2007, 12:14 PM Taking mine in tomorrow for the armrests and 3 other TSB issues.
Now is this just for 06's? I know they have ebony listed as color but on the original TSB I only saw 06 listed.
The SE is an 06 model with two-toned seats. The armrests are ebony.
DreamHHR 04-18-2007, 01:23 PM Mine's a 07 and had the dropping armrest issue, ebony interior. I fixed it myself last week by drilling a small hole at the end of the armrest slot and putting in a metal screw so that the head sticks out enough to act as a new stop. About 3/8 of a inch (the diameter of the screw head) was all that was required.
I can remove the screw if I ever want it back the way it was, but I don't know why I would want that!
I'm going to do the passenger seat armrest as well; it has the same problem, but to a lesser degree.
Yves
Goose 04-18-2007, 01:30 PM Well since the 07's have the same issue as the 06's I'd hope to hell they would be included also
Goose
Mr.Gar 04-18-2007, 01:49 PM Yes I hope so too!mines a 07 and it has the same problem. I'm gonna have to take it in as well.
sjssk 04-18-2007, 05:09 PM When I Picked up Frosty today at the dealership they told me that the armrest TSB was only for 06 models and that the parts listed on the TSB are the exact part numbers that are installed already in my 07. He did say that they will do some more investigating on it......

That is a load of garbage he is feeding you....if it didn't apply to 07s why is the TSB just out now? The 07 HHR I test drove was built 07/06 and that front arm rest almost pointed straight down if you tried to sit upright at all. Some dealers will say anything to get out of warranty work
