View Full Version : Why the put downs ????
Black Beauty 04-14-2007, 08:18 AM Just a querry.
Why do the people/members on this site put down the modifications done on the HHR, and our counterparts, (PT Cruiser owners) seem to enjoy and encourage modding their Rides?
I went to the RAS site, and there was car after car shots of PT`s modded, painted, altered, and generally asking/begging, "Look at me".
What`s the reason we can`t enjoy our mods without a put down?
Cliff Harney 04-14-2007, 08:54 AM I don't know what the problem is .I belong to two Pt clubs and I don't hear them say anything bad about HHR's and they enjoy looking at mine.We are going to Tenn in June for a g2g with the PT's and I told them I was driving my HHR so my grand-daughter could can go .Not enough room in the PT Conv. For a long trip with three people. We plan on a good trip and hope to g2g with more HHR'S onthe trip after Tenn will be on to IND and back to TX
Halfj99 04-14-2007, 09:55 AM its usually 1 of 3 things
1. the mods look bad to them, everyone has different taste.
2 being immature, some people just like to try put down others.
3 jealousy, if someone wants a certain mod but cant achieve it for w/e reason, they might get upset when they see someone else has what they want and get mad and make negative comments.

Got one of each....
Bought my PT in 2001 (my fully modded Surf Rod)
Bought my HHR last weekend (just getting started with the mods)
Both retro rods born by the same geneous creator Bryan Nesbitt...
I love them both... ;)

Black Beauty 04-14-2007, 11:23 AM My question wasn`t, why do PT owners put us down, I don`t frequent their site, it was ,why do other HHR owners put our own rides down when an attempt to mod is made.
Making the distinction between a stick-on mod and a bolt-on mod is a common occurence.
One would think that the CHEVYHHR.NET logo should be etched on the window or needed to be painted on, to be met with approval.

Agrees :thumb: Many people suffer from assholitis.
1HotHHR 04-14-2007, 11:37 AM I have been wondering why its necessary to put down ANY mod made by someone on THEIR car. Its their money and it can all be redone. I have made many mods on cars of the past and when I was done I didn't like the way they looked so I got to redo it again. And I didn't need someone to tell me about it. But thats me. So ya all enjoy life for today since its the only one we have.
See ya down the road

HonestBlues 04-14-2007, 12:03 PM Some people love to exploit the anonymity of the internet. They say things they would otherwise never say face-to-face because they feel safe behind their keyboards and therefore don't fear the possible repercussions. This is normally a sign of arrested development.OK,now mail Doctor H.Blues a money order in the amount of $100.Next question.;)

I agree Hillsdale and I have a cure for that problem. Just go to your local doctor and as for a Plexiotomy. That is the operation where they cut out a rectangular pane in you abdomen area and put in a piece of plexiglass so you are able to see where you are going.. Only problem is there are way too many who need this operation and way too few doctors who are able to give it too you.
SindyDix 04-14-2007, 09:51 PM I hope this doesent go too far off what your asking about B/B
We all react differently to stuff. I think it's where you are at 'emotionally' on how we react or respond.
I don't need my peers or any one's approval or disapproval. If I ask one's opinion, then I want just that, and am prepared to hear the positive and negative, after all I did ask for it.
However, there are posts that folks put of things they have done. I like to see that stuff as it helps me to get ideas of what something looks like on this car.
My fender skirts are a perfect example in my case. I bought them, had them installed and posted images. Some liked them, some did not. I really didn't care. I posted pic's so others could decide for them selves if it's something they liked for THEM. I personally, after the install, didn't like the way they looked or their fitment as they were proto-types that didn't work out for me.
However, again, someone else did like them and worked out a deal with me on them. Not all is lost.
It was a learning experience not just for me but to our members and visitors too.
You can put my stuff down all day long, I don't' give a care. It looks good in my eyes.
mitzkity 04-15-2007, 12:46 AM Great attitude Sindy!! When I first joined here, I was kind of put off by some of the negativity; however, I grew some thicker skin and came back after a few months away, to enjoy the forum no matter what. You are right - we are all entitled to our own opinions, but we REPRESENT when we put it out there, and there will be people who enjoy, approve, learn from, etc. just like there will be those who gag at our cars. ;) I've learned to read and dismiss - who cares, and you really don't want to waste your energy - it's the internet, for heaven's sake - people are WEIRD here!!!
I recently joined the forum hooked to my underbody lighting kit and WOW, lots of people there who tried to beat my car to a pulp. Now, I just laugh and love it anyway. I'm very familiar with the "my car is the only good car, except for my Dad's car" mentality - I raised 2 teenagers!! When you're insecure, you attack. You just gotta accept people wherever they are along the continuum... there's plenty of room.
nfboy 04-15-2007, 12:17 PM The issue in my mind is HOW some people say what they say. Not everyone will like everthing that others choose to do to their cars. If you ask for opinions or what people think, you need to be prepared for negative remarks, but you should not get offended, be offended or bashed. Negative remarks can and should be made positively and that is the responsibility of the person responding. There really is no need to respond both negatively and in an negative manner. That is just offensive and has, over the year I have been here, put MANY people off and drove them away.
Contra-minded thoughts on a mod can be useful if expressed properly and can give the person asking the motivation for "sober second thought". But at the end of the day what we do to our cars must make the individual owner happy, not every other owner on the planet. What a boring world it would be if we all always agreed. But disagree respectfully.
Halfj99 04-15-2007, 12:33 PM you guys should spend some time on cobaltss.net or j-body.org...you will appreciate this sites friendliness more

The last time I expressed my oipinion on anything here, somebody complained and I got hit with an infraction by a Mod. I will say that everyone does have their own opinion. It's part of living in the free world. The problem is that some people just don't value everyone else's opinion as much as their own. "nuff said.
Angel N Tinkerbell 04-15-2007, 12:45 PM As stated before...it is HOW people say things that makes the difference. You can have your opinion...it can be different than someone elses...but be nice about the difference.
Instead of saying something along the lines of "You're an idiot for putting that on your car. It looks terrible."....try "I don't really like it myself, but I am glad you do. I am sure you will enjoy your new mod".
What do you think would get the more "unoffensive" response?
mitzkity 04-15-2007, 12:46 PM Hey Firewatcher, I agree with you. The lamest thing is to do a little mod and have 15 people say, "cool", or "looks nice". I really don't mind the people that say, "I sure wouldn't do that to mine, but hope you enjoy it," or "that really looks a little off-center". If you're not going to be honest, then how are people going to get a reality check? It's like going to the Oznium forum and finding out how many people think an HHR is butt ugly! REALITY CHECK! We have to find a balance and keep it real, or it's useless.
Firewatcher 04-15-2007, 12:48 PM I thought the HHR was butt ugly when first introduced. Now that I've had mine for just about 1 1/2 years.......I just think it's "cute, in a homely sort of way".

That's what I say. :thumb: This site is tame as hell!
oldschoolfreak 04-15-2007, 01:23 PM It all comes down to( ones mans junk is another mans treasure ) its all in the eye of the beholder.
i visit other car sites that alot of folks get really upset and freak when someone replies about their car in a negative manner!??
The way i see it if you dont like my car or mods dont look at it.
We should all remember to be thankful for those with incredibly poor taste, otherwise how would our impeccably good taste stand out?
Seriously, everyone has differing ideas as to what looks good and that is good. No comment is much better that a negative one. It's OK to simply say that something is not for you, but just don't try to put another down because you don't like what they did.
When it comes to visual mods, afterall, it all boils down to opinion.
What bothers me about this site is when discussion starts on a subject of factual or technical matters and the thread quickly gets locked. It has happened all too often here, usually to protect an uninformed opinion, with the end result that many believe myth, lore and outright B.S.
mitzkity 04-15-2007, 05:00 PM Is that really true? Is it because of the rudeness or opinionated stuff that it gets locked? There has to be some freedom - that old adage, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" -- I just don't think it's right on the internet. Silence is like nothing at all - it means nothing?!?, right? I've seen cars do some things I wouldn't do, on here, and my silence isn't going to express it very well. In the corporate world, we all know not to "give the boss any bad news". But if I punch holes in the front bumper of my car to give better airflow, you guys better step up and SAY something!!!
