I attended last year as a spectator and it was wonderful to see all the old cars and many many new ones also. It's not just for classic cars, although that's the gist - but also tons of modded and barely modded cars.

The entry fee is completely tax deductible, by the way.

Last year, there was a large PT Cruiser showing, and there were only one or 2 HHRs over with them. I am entering Mitzkity this year and hope to make some new friends while earning my sunburn!! Hopefully I won't take 400 photos this time around - that was a bit much.

You can start planning early - I will be there with or without you - but oh, so much more fun WITH YOU!!!

It is always good to have a cruise or car show for a good cause, I will check my calender and attend if possible. About 5 years ago with my 240z I participated in a Braille Rally. It was one of the most rewarding things I have every done, I will never forgot how excited the kids were to hear the cars and feel how they looked. I will try to get more info and see if we can get a group to participate.

I tried last year to get some interest from the HHR crowd to attend last year but had very little success. I wished there would have been more interest from the HHR crowd. I took my son's Chevelle last year instead, this was the first time I had attended the event. Okay, well I can't miss this big event - it's just too cool, walking among all those hundreds of cars and chatting with the owners, showing off your ride, eating all that great food....hey, you can even get your prostate checked :eek: free!! The money is a donation for "the cure", you know.

Anyway, I wrote to PTeazer and they were so nice...they welcomed me to join the PT group for parking if I was the only little HHR, but they had an HHR there last year and I just bet I'm not the only one.

Socal-ers: All you have to do is have done some mods and call yourself "custom" and you're IN!!! But registration is starting NOW. They have way over a 1000 already. Hubby's Magnum was #948.

I talked to Debbie, she's the lady that started this event and she said if we all drove in together, then we would be able to all park together. They open the gates at 4:30 AM. now thats early, but if you want a good spot then those are the rules. The host hotel is the Doubletree Hotel, its about 10 minutes from the fair grounds, I'm going to stay there. We could us that spot as a G2G spot, then cruise down in the we hours of the cool morning to the fair grounds. It sounds like fun, so lightem up and lets go cruisen.

I was hoping for at least some HOT nurses. No Chicks, No hot pink gloves, no turn your head to the lft and cough. Come on, what kind of test is this? They probaly have some guy 6feet 47 with hands the size of Bubba Parris and a needle the size of a #2 philips screw driver that will leave a hole in your______so your leaking blood all day. Where: Best Buy Parking Lot “ Upper Level “
901 South Coast Dr, Costa Mesa, CA 92626 .

DIRECTIONS:

RU coming North up the 405 fwy:
There is a South Coast Dr. exit, it can be missed but don’t worry just grab the next exit Fairview turn right and the next light is South Coast Dr. turn right and follow back about a mile to the Best Buy parking lot on the right.

RU coming South down the 405 fwy:
Then you want to exit at Fairview, turn left back over the fwy to light at the bottom of the hill (be in the right lane asap) turn right onto South Coast Dr. and follow back about a mile to the Best Buy parking lot on the right.

At approximately 3:45am, we will take a round-about route to the fairgrounds that follows all right turns – & try to stay together. If you’re curious, it’ll be South down Bear St. to Bristol St. to Newport Ave., then turning right (west) onto Fair Dr. across the front of the Fairgrounds to Fairview turning right (north) to Arlington turning right again (east) to the Gate 4 entrance.

Gates open at 4:30am and close at 7:00am. If you miss the caravan make sure you’re there before 7:00am

For those of you bringing extra people with you that you do NOT have wristbands for, you CAN purchase them at the gate as we enter.

Shade: We will need a few 10x10 Pop-Ups to provide shade for all of us to gather under.


Now for the rest of you, don't forget to bring chair/camera/sunblock!

Bring your coolers or Ice Chests if you want.

There are plenty of food vendors at the event, and even at the Swap Meet next door, but feel free to bring your own if you want.

I have a friend with a REAL tricked out 37 Ford 4 door conv. Since this is a wide variety of cars I hope its ok. Would it be ok I have him meet up with us to cruise in. If anyone objects I understand, so please speak your piece.

Naw, it's MOPAR or NO car, but my MOPAR has a Chevy engine for power. My Ford is actually slower. I hold slow E.T. on the maverick.to site. 20.05 sec. in the 1/4 mile.

Good news...hubby's group decided that 3:30 was unnecessarily early last year, although some good naps were had, and has decided to meet at 4:30am.

Riding on their experience, I think we can easily do the same. Are ya happy? Huh? Huh?

BTW, anyone have a 10x10 popup canopy? (EZ-up) If we remember, we can bring something to lash them together with and have an unbroken row of shade.

I begged the car gods for a cooling spell, and they just took me seriously!!

Okay, this is excellent :thumb: This means we spend less time cleaning our cars and more time sleeping Friday night.

So:

If it pours, we sit in our cars and sleep/read/eat.

If it drizzles, we sip coffee under our E-Z ups...and everyone at the Fairgrounds will be out later, drying cars.

Trailer Queens beware, bad weather ahead, rain water and bugs, bring cover for your ride, because at Orange County Fair Grounds there is no place to hide. People look and people gawk, OH GOD here comes some poop from that very big hawk.They would really like to touch but hands off the Queens ride, its times like this I wish I could hide. A guide you say oh yes, over there, no over here, they say go home if you need to trailer your ride.
Only really car people allowed, rain or shine.

WEATHER: The cut-off low is doing what cut-off lows do, stalling and moving slow...the rain is still only forcasted for the AM Saturday, but anything can happen.

CARAVAN:
At approximately 4:45am, we will travel South down Bear St. to Bristol St. to Newport Ave., then turning right (west) onto Fair Dr. across the front of the Fairgrounds to Fairview turning right (north) to Arlington turning right again (east) to the Gate 4 entrance.

Gates open at 4:30am and close at 7:00am. If you miss the caravan, make sure you're there before 7:00am

Bring drying towels and a big fat book and a jug of coffee (and a urinal?) - no, and an UMBRELLA.
I'm bringing a pad, pillow & blanket for the back!

Sorry, but a 4:AM is was pouring here. Only stopped a few times for a short time.

Couldn't see well enough to drive in it.

The group seemed to have a good time in spite of the rain. My husband, son and I got there at 4:20 this morning. I parked my HHR with my husband's group of Chevelles and 55 Chevy's. I did go and visit the group and had my HHR there for a short time. There were a lot of really great cars there and it was fun even though we had to dry the cars a few times.

Wow, came home and was so tired I couldn't see straight. Had a bite and put myself down for a NAP...9PM the dog jumped on my bladder to show me what HER problem was. :lol: So much for my Saturday night - Today was incredible, folks. True spirit and sense of humors!! It rained, We wiped, it rains, we wiped again, it rains again, we just laughed and enjoyed the show...

There was only one longer rain session, and I didn't see anyone wimping out - the day was long and warm and wonderful!! Photos - oh YEAH, we got photos, video, the whole 9 yards. This thread is going to FLOW with photos, but there will also be slideshows of the whole shebang. Nowhere can you see that many excellent vehicles in one place, not anywhere I've been anyway.

Thank you all - and I mean all - for showing up at the ungodly hour, for the comraderie, and the fun. We really represented, didn't we?? And Beckie - so nice to see you again, for as long as we got to borrow you!!

HotrodBob, there will be many other occasions!! And JT'S HHR, you were sorely missed, but I bet it was coming down in buckets in your area.

Slideshow links are pretty much all I have time for today, as I am suffering in vinyl gloves and vaseline with a flare of finger tips contact allergy - happens everytime I clean/do projects/change of climate, etc. Very sore right now.

I hope others will come in with some real photos for those who don't have the patience to follow these links.

It seems that there was no "Class" for HHRs so that's something we'll have to address... so no winner, I actually don't think it crossed any of our minds anyway.

47 LX's showed up to beat out the Corvette clan and really got their goat when hubby's group had to borrow some of their "extra" space. :cool:
Note the winning Magnum was a gorgeous concept - red car with several colorations of reds, blacks, and grays, with smoking flames, as if driving right into the fire. Front wheels same design as back, but "blackened". I loved it.

Well beside the cloud bursts we endured it was a great time. Great seeing everyone. No comments about Rick and Paul's Prostate exams, we know they had the blood test but the smile on ther faces we beg to differ. Thanks all see at the next one.

What a great day it was!

Despite the rainfall and several rounds of drying the cars I think we all had a blast.:thumb:

It's like we were having our own little event and there was a car show going on around us. I thought the time flew by with all of the fun and great conversation. This is a great group of people to hang out with and I look forward to our next get together.

Bud and his wife absolutely get the long distance award for making the trek down to OC under less than perfect conditions.:one:

BTW: The winner of the Ricoh color printer we gave away was the owner of Pteazer! He came by to pick it up today driving a custom PT and he is a really nice guy. I had seen him on TV before (The "Ride's" HHR build off) and I recognized him immediately. What a trip!

Charles, I don't get around here as much any more. No time for it. Work is CRAZY busy! Lots of O.T.....But it was great to see some of the HHR's owners on Saturday. I hung out with my husband and son with their Chevelle group. They did let me park my HHR with them since it is a Chevy.

Rick and Paul both said that the doc was really nice and that they could'nt figure it out how they could test them with both hands on their sholders and the doctors said that they were both GREAT fun, er Great patiences.

Glad everyone had a great time & wish I could of made it. I was at another show & have one this weekend (DUB) in L.A. with the HHR. On a side note, my hats off to GM again :bow: They had major cut backs on cars this year for SEMA. They went from 70 last year to only awarding out 20 this year & I was so lucky to get the 2008 Solstice GXP. Must say, one very fast car with that Turbo S.C. Well hope to see HHR owners at the DUB show on 9/30:thumb:
