HillsdaleHHR 04-19-2007, 08:41 AM Chris just called and told me that SuperValu has sold off Scott's (the company he works for) to Kroger. Not sure what this means for him. There is no Kroger located in the town that the Scott's he works at is located. However, he does not know if they intend to keep it open or not. How will this affect pay, vacation, and the biggest of all, I will lose my insurance. Just when you think all things have settled down :( .
karen1953 04-19-2007, 09:15 AM Sorry, Now you and Chris really have a reason to move to FL.:D

Kroger is buying up everything. Out here there was a place called Smittys that was bought by Smith, then bought Fry's that in turn sold out to Kroger. We dont have any Krogers out here. They kept the Fry's names and most of the stores stayed open, if they shut down one of the older stores a new pne was buit close by.
Sorry to hear that it happen, but hopefully they will keep them open and everything will work out for you.
Black Rose 04-19-2007, 10:14 AM It can certainly be scary when the initial news comes out about these types of things. Most times they work out well.
I've worked for four different companies and never changed desks.
Firewatcher 04-19-2007, 10:54 AM Although at 50 I am entirely bored with retirement, the only thing I worry about changing these days are the seasons.

Having been through this myself I understand fully what can be expected. I watched as all my co-workers at the top of their payscales were left hanging with no offers of employment with the new company. That is what scares me the most with Chris as he is at the top of his payscale. If he is able to make the transition to the new company all should be good as I feel Krogers has a better opportunity to compete with the likes of Wal-Mart and Meijer stores compared to what Scott's was. The only negative I see then is that fact that I will no longer be carried on his insurance.
karen1953 04-19-2007, 01:29 PM Why would you not be able to stay on the new policy?
Should not matter! Does it?

SuperValu offers benefits to domestic partners and Kroger does not.
Z-Man 04-19-2007, 03:35 PM Sorry to hear the Bad news.
SuperValu offers benefits to domestic partners and Kroger does not.
Sorry, Now you and Chris really have a reason to move to FL.:D
Yeah, Disney offers the same benefit!
On a more serious note........
Let's hope Chris doesn't find himself w/o a job.
SandyBeach 04-21-2007, 10:23 AM As a former military spouse, I had several periods of forced unemployment. Every time we moved to a new base I had weeks, months, and sometimes years where I couldn't get a job. Once I got in civil service, I never gave it up. I could be making a lot more working for a government contractor but the job security sucks!
The rules on domestic partners covered on insurance are pathetic. If I invite someone, anyone, to share my home and my life, I should be able to share my health insurance with them. We all pay enough for it!
Hope everything works out well for you and Chris!
HillsdaleHHR 04-21-2007, 10:31 AM According to the Kroger big wigs there shouldn't be many changes. Yeah, people hear that all the time. Next week all employees must fill out applications and begin to be interviewed. From there, you just wait to see if they offer you a job. Keeping a positive attitude.
HillsdaleHHR 06-01-2007, 03:38 PM Well, Chris has found out that he WILL have a job with Kroger after the transition. No details on what etc. but that is a big relief. Party time
Great news!!!

HillsdaleHHR 12-07-2007, 03:44 PM Just found out great news. For 2008, Kroger is extending benefits to include Domestic Partnerships which means I will be covered under Chris' medical insurance again   .

shaginwgn 12-07-2007, 05:16 PM A domestic partnership is a legal or personal relationship between individuals who live together and share a common domestic life but are not joined in a traditional marriage or in a civil union. However, in some jurisdictions, such as California, domestic partnership is in fact nearly equivalent to marriage, or to other legally recognized same-sex or different-sex unions. The terminology for such unions is still evolving, and the exact level of rights and responsibilities conferred by a domestic partnership varies widely from place to place.
Some legislatures have voluntarily established domestic partnership relations by statute instead of being ordered to do so by a court. Although some jurisdictions have instituted domestic partnerships as a way to recognize same-sex unions, domestic partnerships may involve either different-sex or same-sex couples.
The domestic partnership covers all:thumb:

Yes it does.
SandyBeach 12-08-2007, 08:15 AM It's about time someone used common sense. People who are not married buy homes and cars together yet they can't share health insurance. If anyone is willing to pay the "family" rate, they should be able to include whoever they chose.
Hope you don't need to use the coverage, Dayton, but I'm glad you now have it!
HillsdaleHHR 01-16-2009, 10:35 PM Well, here is the latest edition to this ongoing good/bad story. Chris' store just went union not too long ago so I once again find myself without insurance. This cycle just sucks. To top it off there are rumors that their store could close. They are a low volume store in a smaller community. We live in Michigan and he drives 37 miles one way to work in Indiana. If they did close that store the next closest store would be another 20 miles further one way.
