View Full Version : Bad Day Today!
Alzonie 04-20-2007, 10:51 PM :( First off my Wife comes home from work to tell me the place where she works is dropping health care insurance for all employees as of April 30th!! TEN DAYS NOTICE!! Isn't that just ducky!! Then a short time later I go out the back door and notice something oddly sticking out by the HHRs right headlight. I take a closer look and see a foot long crease along the fender just above the wheel opening, and the joint where it's attached to the bumper is pulled apart!:( Also some smaller scratches along the lower door and just under the headlight. She had stopped at the grocery on the way home and I guess some "Jackass" had scraped the side in fine style. No note of course, probably no insurance. Took it right over to the nearby Chevy dealer for an estimate. Would you believe $1,206.00 to repair. Unbelievable:cussing:
Wow, that really sucks to hear about your ride!:cussing: But that's nothing compared to losing the health insurance.
When I got dropped from payroll by my previous employer (do to being on medical leave for over a year), I had to convert my group policy to an individual. Now I'm paying out my A$$ for it!:censored:

:( Yeah, that definitely is the worst part of it. Trouble is she has 4 more years before Medicare is available to her. Several Months ago (Between jobs) she had to go on "Cobra" for health ins. at $403.00 a Month! She'll be lucky if she can find another job, at 61, that'll offer any decent coverage, but she said she'll look. At least the HHR can be fixed!

With my current health condition, my premiums are 3K a month!!http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w90/nak123_album/sSc_eek2.gif

 Good Grief Man! That's more than I bring in a Month between Soc. Security and Pension!! That is Rough!!

Fortunatly, my mother-in-law is in a position to help us out.

Well, that's sure a break for you! My problem is I'm the one "At the top of the Ladder" in my Family, so to speak! Any Major health problems and I'm just "Out there" depending on some HMO to see me through whatever.
It's winding up in a Nursing Home at some point that scares the hell out of me. That'll wipe a guy out in short order! :( And the premiums for any kind of Insurance at my age are out of reach.
krishaynes 04-21-2007, 07:17 AM That is terrible news! As you say, at least the HHR can be fixed.
Best of luck getting new coverage set up. The cost of medical care is so high...

My dad retired at age 62 but was suppose to have benefits until he reached 65. Last fall the company closed and he lost his medical benefits. He had to find insurance for himself for 2 years until he can get medicare benefits. He has a basic plan with Blue Cross (state law that Blue Cross has to provide some type of insurance to anyone) as no one will insure him because of being a diabetic. The system SUCKS!!!!
Alzonie 04-21-2007, 11:39 AM :( This country really is in a crisis when it comes to health care. Millions of people with no coverage at all, and millions of others hardly able to keep up with the premiums for the insurance they do have!
I sure don't know what the answer is, but the troubling thing is, it seems, neither does anyone in the Government, or else they don't really care. A lot of talk, but no action!
I guess all those in Congress have great Health Care coverage (Thanks to the Taxpayers!) so why should they worry much about the rest of us.
No problem coming up with Billions of Dollars for some senseless War though!
courthousedeb 04-21-2007, 11:56 AM That stinks about both Alzonie. I haven't had health insurance for over 10 years. :( Last job didn't offer it at all and when I did need coverage when I broke my ankle, luckily I qualified for assistance through Denver Health Medical to have it all done. Then, several years later when the screw in my ankle started backing out, I made too much money to qualify for assistance by $100. In order to be covered, I had to take a week off work without pay so my income appeared lower. (they use the most recent 4 weeks of pay X 12 to determine eligibility, so then I qualified...it was their idea for me to do this) Kicker was at that then I had to pay nearly $1000 up front before they would schedule the surgery too.
I work thru a temp service right now and they offer it, but I'm pretty healthy and hoping that I get on permanent where I have been working the last several months. Boss says they will be making a decision in the next several months on what they want to do, and I should plan on being there at least that long, if not permanent. Takes time for the corporate ball to move as some may know. How funny...I'm working for the Ball Corporation.
Good luck dealing with both matters and please keep us posted.

THREAD DEVIATION ALERT !!
Deb, don't get your hopes up too high for a permanent position. When I was working for a temp agency, I got hired by a company after only 1 week. In the 10 years that I worked there, I had seen numerous other temps that were told they would be hired as well. Most left after 3 months because their applications had not even been looked at by management, much less forwarded to the powers in charge. They even strung along 1 guy for over a year! Since you've been there several months:eek: , and it's going to be several more months before they decide:roll: .......I'm sure you can do the math.
hhrcrafty 04-21-2007, 07:17 PM Yeah, temping sucks. Usually they make you wait for a few months before you qualify for crappy health insurance, then you get laid off the moment you enroll. Or you get stuck with an agency that has no benefits, and they string you along for years promising that you'll be permanently hired.
Every once in a while my old temp agency calls me to see if I want a job. I hope I never have to tell them "yes" again.
Alzonie 04-25-2007, 04:32 PM  Got a second estimate on the fender damage yesterday and it was almost the same as the first from the Dealer. $1,237.39 this time!! I'm going with them though 'cause Hartford Ins. says they'll knock $100.00 off my deductible if use them! Guy says it'll be cheaper to replace the fender than to try and fix it. ($154.37) Too many creases in it to come out right! (For the time it would take I guess.)
What gets me is they say they have to paint the door too:confused: There's no damage on the door! He say's they'll have to remove the mirror and the vent shield over the window to do it!! GEEZ!! It damn well better all match up right when they're done. And this is going to take 6 days besides. This is so aggravating because of some moron driver that can't park their car!:cussing:
catzcradle 04-25-2007, 05:25 PM if they don't paint the door, you will see a difference.
Also some smaller scratches along the lower door and just under the headlight.
There's no damage on the door!
Well, which is it?
Alzonie 04-26-2007, 01:21 AM  The scratches were only on that fender extension on the lower front of the door. The dealer said they only had to redo that section. This second place said if they didn't paint the "Whole" door it wouldn't blend in right. If that's the case will the front door and back door match. I suppose they could repaint the whole car to be safe!
