You should be able to get a locking cap from your dealer, that's where I got mine and it works just fine. No problem with the door not closing either. It's the same cap that fits the Chevy S10 and GMC Sonoma pickups.

These do work. A word of advice...when installing, do not push on the cap. If you do it will not go in properly. Just turn it with no force, lock it with the key and no problem. I always check, after Deb had her issue, to make sure it is secure, with a light tug. Never had it not in properly except the couple of times a pushed on it while turning. Great fuel cap.

I have the one from Wal-Mart btw.

:D I would imagine that the GM gas cap is made by the same company as the Auto Zone and Walmart caps. They look the same in the pics I've seen at any rate. GM probably just jacks the price up 50% or more. I had my locking cap a few years before there was an "HHR". I bought it for my '99 GMC Sonoma and they just switched over to the HHR when we traded. :2cents:

I tried one of the Cooling System Technologies 5504 locking fuel caps from Autozone. This is going to sound insane, but I swear my HHR felt like it was just a little bit sluggish after putting this cap on. So today I put the factory fuel cap back on and the perceived sluggishness is gone. No CEL was illuminated on the dash by the 5504. But I have to wonder if it didn't jibe just right with the evaporative emissions system or something.

I went to the owners manual, 2006 version, I could find no reference to a No CEL indicator light, please , more detail

Check Engine Light.
He's saying that he didn't get an error, but thought there might have been a problem anyhow, because the engine seemed less responsive.

Couldn`t figure that one out...
But a CEL pretty much only comes on when the engine isn`t running, and some one had previously said (not this thread) there was a low power read-out on the DIC, that`s why I went to the manual to get clarification.
And it was 6:15am, still drinking wake-up juice...Sorry Guys.

That is the one I use (Wal-Mart version) and I saw absolutely no difference in the car. It does sound insane. But YMMV.
