Talk about one hell of a first dent..Man I am so bummed out right now..I get off I-95 at 45st and make the turn west under the overpass..As everyone who drives around here knows when the first light changes the second one changes aswell. I guess to make sure cars aren't stopped under the overpass. Anyway I'm doing probably 30 or 35 and as soon as I could see around the overpass I see a van..I knew right away he wasn't stopping so I slammed on the brakes..It may sound hard to believe but I thought about swerving and was afraid I would flip so I just stayed straight..We ended up plowing into each other and introducing my front passenger to his front driver..I rolled down the window and saw the guy all hunched over and thought oh no*. Nope he just dropped his cell phone..This guy continued to talk to whoever while we are yelling at him to call the cops..Man it was a mess..

Cell phones, like alcohol, don`t mix with driving.
It was the stupidest thing to ever say it was ok to talk on the phone while driving... a status symbol at first, cliche` now.
I had an accident back in the 90`s with a woman, talking to her husband, an insurance agent, coincidently 'her' agent, they denied my claim taboot.
Man was I mad...

Thanks everyone! I am ok just a few bumps..I'm gonna have to talk to a lawyer about everything since the accident was ruled no fault..IMO if the police had done an actual investigation they would have found the other driver was at fault. Now since Florida is no fault my insurance will have to cover which means a $500 deductible up front from me..So since I have yet to find a job and the only money I get pays for insurance and my car payment I may not be getting my car back for awhile..

The whole insurance thing is a scam.
First off you`re paying every month, whether you use it or not, then you have a deductable when you can least afford to put out more money...
Essentially, I`m betting that I`ll have an accident, they`re betting that I won`t, with my money...
And if I win, and have an accident, they charge me more to bet. SCAM.....

Skatetheglobe, who is your insurance through? I know my accident experience with Stitch I might not be typical, but at least GEICO followed through on trying to get money out of the lady who was obviously at fault (NY is also a no-fault state). And Black Beauty, after I got Stitch II insured, our insurance rate actually went down by about $20 despite the accident. (multi-car policy, though, with two drivers 25 and older)

I also have Geico DC and the same thing happened to me. Never had an accident in over 30 years and someone side swiped my HHR in a parking lot. Did not notice it till later in the evening as it was on the passengers side so no Police report as I had been to several parking lots that day. I expected my rates to go UP but instead they went down. Wow was I supprised..

The claims department for the insurance companies will do a much more thorough investigation than the local police department. Once they have taken statements from all parties involved, any witnesses, reviewed the police report and evaluated where each vehicle is damaged, they can usually determine who is actually at fault in an accident. It is possible that they may determine that both you and the other driver contributed to the accident and they will determine a percentage for each and pay accordingly.

The only thing the police department really determines in the accident is if someone was so blatantly at fault that they need to be issued a citation. Save your money and don't bother trying to sue them...it's the insurance company who is paying and will ultimately determine fault after a lengthy investigation.

In Los Angeles the police do not come to an accident unless there are inuries, DUI, hit and run, or public proerty damage. I did have a witness name and phone number to give to my insurance company. They took down my info and then talked to the other party.

solman98

Well don`t just throw that out there, explain your point of view...

You buy insurance (car, health, life, etc) to assist when that situation comes up. Granted in the long run you may pay out more that you get. But that money is there if the situation happens and they way you don't have to fork out large amounts of money. SC now has a law that allows you to elect to not have auto insurance. You still have to pay for that "non" coverage and regular liability might even cost the same (never looked that close into it). But you pay several hundred for the year. Most people could not believe I kept full coverage on my 10 year old truck. When it was stolen, I sure am glad I did. That $100 deductable didn't even bother me. That was still $10K I did not have ready to buy a new car with. WOuld I have saved that up in addition to everything else had I not have insurance? Doubtful at best. What happens if someone is hurt in an accident and needs hundreds of thousands worth of medical treatment? I know I don't have that sitting around. Insurance is there to help you when you need it. Call it a scam if you like. Guess taxes are also......

You can also just leave and go to another country.

Black Beauty
05-15-2007, 06:43 PM
I was expecting a reply from Snoopy, not an invite to leave the country.
Where do you get off saying something like that off the cuff to an America citizen who has served his country and paid his dues?

Stovebolt HHR
05-15-2007, 07:30 PM
The whole deductible is a way for the insurance company's to pay less.
They tell you your premium will be a lot less the bigger the deductible.
A $50.00 deductible will cost you maybe $20.00 more per year. But $50.00
is easier to come up with than $500.00 IMHO. My insurance company is always trying to get me to raise it but I will not do it.

give them as much time as they need, i know thats not the answer that you want. When i worked autobody and people came in and *****ed we either rushed there car and did not come out the way that we wanted it to, or it took longer because we would only work on it when we knew they were coming. If you know the shop where your car is just stop by just to ask how things are coming. and if you think they are doing a really nice job let them know, a nice customer all ways gets more.

Have you gone down there to the Dealer yourself?
What part are they waiting on/for?
The time frame is a little too long for a fix. Have they been driving it?
So many questions.
I would go there just to make sure that it is really there! And that they have really started working on it!

I'm just now catching up on this thread. It sounded like it was going to be okay in the beginning, and seems like the doubts have been growing in your head for good reason. I would be very worried, myself, am I to understand that you haven't actually seen the car all this time? Sorry if I only skimmed lightly and missed it, but sounds like you need to stay in touch and have a rapport with your dealer so you can be in the loop.

Is your gut telling you, as some people here feel, that something is not quite right? Go with it, if so. You've been patient but there are limits. I'm so sorry you've had to go through it for so long. Best wishes for a good outcome. I, like you, would really worry about whether she would ever be the same from such a strangely long repair. Good idea to wait till the morning. Sometimes body shops make you rush to get your car and hurry off before they close. So you don't inspect it throughly and drive off.

Yeah! I finally got my ride back.

WOO HOO !!!!!

So when can we expect to see you at the Tower Shops??

BTW.......The place that fixed yours did a lot better job than that of the body shop that fixed Dory.

Whats the Tower Shops?

I actually think I'm taking it back. I noticed a bit of orange peel on my bumper and fender and also found a spot where it looks like the clear coat ran. I really hope I don't have to leave it again.

It's a weekly meet for anything/everything on wheels, held every Friday at the Tower Shops in Hollywood. Here is a sample pic from the first HHR meet....

Maroone is killing me. I brought my ride back to them on Monday to fix some spots in the paint and get my seat repaired. They told me it would be a couple of hours and would call when it was done. I waited till 5 before I called them and they said its not done in service yet but I can pick it up in the morning. So I show up there yesterday morning and its still not done but they will call me when it is.Then I had to call again yesterday afternoon and it still isn't ready. They said they had to order a part for my seat and it should be done today. Im just pissed they didn't tell me sooner cause now my car is just sitting there because of my seat. I could have dealt with the seat not folding flat until the part came in. Again its a damn good thing I don't have a job to get to.

That's the same thing my dealer wanted to do with Dory when the sunroof's net bracket broke.

After installing my headlights yesterday my pops and I noticed that a piece of the plastic is missing from my drivers side wheel well. I can actually see the side of the engine block.

I am so disappointed with the quality of work the dealership did. It seemed like every time I washed my car for a few months I noticed something new they screwed up on. They will be getting a call tomorrow and if they don't want to fix these issues because of the amount of time it has been I'll be calling my buddy at the BBB.

i've had my share of idiots running in to me. my ins went up $250 / yr for accident i was not at fault but involved. someone should invent a device that would be by law put into all vehicles that would only allow cell phone to work while in park. i do accept calls on mine , but only briefly and mostly business.

Hey everyone, I know it has been awhile but I need some suggestions as to what I should do about the problems I have been having with the dealer about my car. I have had issue after issue with it and it just sucks. My a/c stopped blowing cold a while back so I brought it in and they said it was a pressure switch or valve I think. Anyway they repaired it and it worked but then stopped again. I brought it back and they said it was clogged but it has now stopped working again. My problem is that I moved about an hour away and have no way or desire to bring my car back to them. They suck and are taking advantage of me. The thing that has me the most upset is that this car was basically brand new when it was wrecked and now I feel like I have a lemon. It still only has 21000 miles and I'm about to hit 4 years in a week. I really feel like my insurance company should have considered it a total loss since they paid over $10,000 to have it fixed. What can/should I do?

You can go to a different dealer for repairs, you don't have to go to the one you bought the car from, I'm sure some locals can tell you a dealer with a great repair shop.

I thought about that but then I will most likely have to pay to get whatever is wrong fixed.

You just answered your own question. Personally, since you have had continuous problems, I would call GM and complain. But I would also take to someplace else and get it fixed right. If (and a big if IMO) GM decided they will cover it, you could get reimbursed. But, if they don't, you at least get it fixed. 4 years on a 06, and your still dealing with an accident that happened well over 2 years ago, not sure what they will do about it now.
