Anyone using one? Yes, I've got one. GM # 88891787 magnetic oil drain plug. List $3.51 Black Rose 06-01-2007, 09:42 AM Would this also work? There no way it'd be able to catch aluminum casting flash that didn't get cleaned out prior to assembly. That why we have oil filters. c2vette 03-27-2010, 07:08 PM Tried one out from 33,000 miles to 39,000 miles in my SS, and the magnet had a slight amount of gray material on the magnet about enough to cover half a q-tip swab. Consistancy of toothpaste, or perhaps more appropriately lapping compound. Just as soon not have that circulating. sleeper 03-28-2010, 01:02 AM c2vette- Where did you get yours ? I tried GMParts & doesn't recognize either part #.. Snoopy 03-28-2010, 02:57 PM If you have Auto Zones in that part of the country, they have an entire display of oil pan bolts.....many with magnets on the end. Recently bought one for my G/daughters 2005 Impala. About $5.00. sleeper 03-28-2010, 04:04 PM If you have Auto Zones in that part of the country, they have an entire display of oil pan bolts.....many with magnets on the end. Seems to be good quality and super strong magnet. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Magnetic-Oil-Drain-Plug-HHR-2-2L-2-4L-SS-2-0L-Turbo_W0QQitemZ310084158016QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMoto rs_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item483274c240 sleeper 03-28-2010, 04:39 PM I bought from eBay. We only use the best products available! Just check out the strength of our Rare Earth Magnets. That is a 1 - 5/16" Craftsman combination wrench it is holding. We also use washers that have a rubber ring in them for superior sealing. sleeper 04-02-2010, 11:01 PM Well I had to check: After going to local auto-parts with a 3/4" box wrench. Tested the auto Parts magnetic Drain Plug (LOL) no way.. It wouldn't even pick up, or hold an 1/8" wrench. That magnet is almost useless, except for anything that may brush against it. All magnets are certainly not created equal.. So a "Rare Earth Magnetic Drain Plug" is on the way from the link c2vette provided..:thumb: Thank You Sir... Money back if it won't hold a 1-5/16" combo wrench.. That's a powerful magnet.. I will of course test this after it's arrival, & provide an up-date.. sleeper 04-09-2010, 02:24 AM OK, got new Magnetic Drain Plug with the "Rare Earth Magnet" & Yes the magnet is strong enough to hold my 1-5/16" combo wrench in the air.. So it passed my test. & No, I have no connections to the seller.. |
