It looks like the valve cover and intake I powdercoated are a hit.

This thread is to test interest in this as a service we, The HHR Store, may offer.

The items can be done in smooth or wrinkle finish.

Many color choices would be available.

Turn around would be 3-5 business days.

To start we would be offering the 2.4 valve cover for $150, includes $75 core charge so actual cost is $75 plus shipping.

We would offer to do CGS intakes, same color and finish choice, for $65. You would need to ship your intake.

With enough interest we will consider adding the 2.2 and also a core charge for the CGS intake.

Any and all comments will be helpful.

Thanks, Mike

How come it's so much cheaper than SoCal's (http://chevyhhr.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4751)? :poke:  You my friend are actually providing HHR owners a service!  I might be interested if I keep my HHR for a little while. ;)

Man that looks great, i need to do it, i need an intake too, like to get both at the same time. now with that said, and that fact that I know nothing about this stuff at all..Is this something that would void the warranty or not, sorry for my ignorance. Todd (Uma)

Neither should void your warranty. According to the Magnuson Warranty Act, they, the manufacturer, has to prove that what you did actually caused the problem.

Many here have kept the OEM intake, that big ass hunk of plastic and put it back on when thy go to a dealer. I've never had to do that. I kept mine though and that way while I was having my items done I could still drive my car.

We can have done most of what you can pull off. IF it can stand up to the heat of the process.

I would definitely like a valve cover in Sunburst Orange Metallic and would probably buy it as soon as it was available.

Question: The text on the valve cover, "ECOTEC VVT", would you also do that in a different color as you did on yours, or would we have to do that through someone else/ourselves?

I'm sure he'll get around to answering it sometime
It wouldn't be that hard to paint it ourselves... well, maybe. But it would be nice to have somebody do it for us ;)

I should have an answer by middle of next week. But I'm pretty sure this is a go.

I don't think we will be able to do actual OEM colors. I'll have color samples that will be available next week.

I was a little unhappy with mine, not real clearly defined lines. I'm going to see if that can be corrected. It looks great at a distance but when you look close you can tell.

I'm gonna try to have something close. Especiallly since my wife Bonnie (HHR MOM) has the same color as you.

Maybe you could do a pinstripe of black around the letters or something??
It's cool either way, the whole thing is a very good idea :thumb: :one:

I just got off the phone with my source.

We can do about 2500 different colors. OEMs will be tough, but we can get close. Neons, metallics, and shade-shifters are definite options. A few different finishes also.:thumb:

We're going to sit down Tuesday and work out the details, but this looks like a go!:D

Please remember, that since I'm going to be unable to have a large stock of cores, turn around may be a couple weeks on these. Actual production time is only a few days. so total time will rely on how quickly we get peoples' cores back. We will have a few to start. I just ordered spares which should be in sometime next week.

If your gonna add the 2.2 and i hope that you do, don't forget that the 06's and 07's are different.

Sounds great!!!

Let us know when the details are worked out after Tuesday...

As for my request...

No core needed for me...

No shipping needed for me...

but may call you with questions on removal and putting it back together... ;)

What about powdercoating some stock 16" aluminum wheels? Would that be possible? I think if I could color-match my wheels Dark Silver to match the rest of Rebel Grey it would be sweet.

Yes it could be done.

As I said before though, OEM colors are tough to do powdercoat. when I have a sit down on Tuesday with my source, my main focus will be on colors. I'm going to try to find something as close as possible for each HHR color offered.

Mike...

Isn't there a large gasket under the valve cover?

If so, does it have to be replaced? Are you able to reuse it without it leaking?

I bought a new one, along with a new gasket. That way I wouldn't lose use of the car. The gasket is reusable, but I got one anyway just in case. So right now I just happen to have an extra. I'm having it done for my wife's and then I'll still have an extra.

That said answer your question Big Kahuna. Gasket is reuseable.

Might be a bit of a stretch, but ...

How about color-matched wiper arms? I noticed on Stitch I that after about a year the factory black on the arms started to dissolve, making them look pretty fugly.

Also a possibility ... brake parts (limit it to drums and calipers).

Thanks all!

ANYTHING that can stand the heat of the process can be powdercaoted.
What is Powder Coating?
Powder coating is a process where a finely ground powder is sprayed at very low pressure from an electrically charged gun. The cleaned and bare metal part is grounded. The gun is charged to 10,000 volts to give the particles a very high electrical charge. The particles are instantly drawn to the part, adhering to the charged surface. The part is then baked (high-temperature cured) and, as soon as it is cooled, is ready to go. Powder coating, as it is a thermo-set finish, is great for high heat items such as exhaust manifolds, headers, and barbeques.

Instructions for coating preparation

•Item must be disassembled prior to shipping(no plastic or rubber parts attached)
•Item must be metal or aluminum and able to withstand the 400 degree bake cycle
•Greasy items are subject to an additional cleaning fee
•Powdercoated or painted items will require additional fees for chemical stripping .

Okay, I am so THERE with this... however, we would have to have the valve cover, & CGS intake mailed to me, right? Then we take it to the dealer and they would swap it for us, and we mail you back the other pieces? Is that the "core" thing you are talking about? Speeekkeee dee Eengleeesh! Oh, and of COURSE I want the wipers, but mine is shortened on one side due to visor, so I would have to mail it to you, right?

Count me in on the powdercoating!! I have the sport red metallic can you get close to that color?? Also about the core, can you do that yet? That way I can still have use of my car. I have already ordered the CGS should receive in less than a week. How soon can we do this with the core, and is the core available for the CGS?
