I am looking into a retro flame theme. starting on the front in Silver, changing to hot pink changing to red. i saw something like that on an old street rod and it looked really nice. also going to do some sort of the same thing on the inside, but not quite sure what that will be yet. i meet with the painter on the 5th of may. we'll see what he comes up with!

Welcome g.

We seem to be getting a good number of folks from Ottawa and surrounding areas on here. Starting to see a lot more HHRs on the road around here too, which is nice.

I'm from the area as well.

I live on the Quebec side, at the foot of the Gatineau Hills (south side, north of Aylmer), but work in Kanata. I'm on Carling Ave / Ottawa River Parkway every week day.

Hey Black Rose, were you westbound on the Ottawa River Parkway yesterday between 5:15 and 5:30? I was waiting to turn left on Champlain and saw a blue HHR with the driver staring at my ride.... and we both had the "could this be someone from the HHR club?" look.

Just wondering.

Nope, wasn't me. I usually take Scott street when I drive to/from work.

But it's exactly what I do when I meet another HHR on the road

OK then, some other DBM LT lives towards the west end. Someone else driving a black one waived at me last night on Carling. Cool. I'll be getting my club decal in the next couple of weeks and will put it on for sure.

See you next time.

There are quite a few HHRs in Ottawa, eh? (Including me:smile: )

Although one crazy @#$#@%$@ driving a black LT model nearly rear ended me this morning! How do you NOT see a truck??? Nice start to the day...

I'm just glad to have not seen too many blue HHRs running around. Most seem to be black or that orange colour.

Black Rose
04-26-2007, 12:38 PM
Yeah, not many blues ones (DBM or the new blue for 07).

I've seen a few black, red, white, silver, and lots of the orange sunburst ones.

I've only seen two other blue ones so far in the 6 months I've had mine.

Yup ! I'm surprised that I didn't see you; I usually have my eye out for other HHRs.

I had to drive to Montreal last night to pick up some furniture. First trip with it; also first experience towing with it. It tows well, although you kind of feel the constant pull from the trailer. Without it this morning, it feels like it's flying !!!

Shocking moment for me this afternoon...

I have a blue (the new 07 version) LS model. I was in Stittsville, and what did I see? The EXACT same car:(

I felt special for awhile...

Time to get some upgrades:thumb:

I've got my aftermarket wheels on the HHR yesterday, I'm no longer a run-of-the-mill silver LS.

Nothing drastic, 17" American Racing Split, silver polished with the stock size tire (215/50); I like the final result. Pictures later, it's still raining and our dirt road is a mud pit.

I'm looking for wheels, but just can't find ones I like...

My favorite ones so far are the guys that have put Cobalt SS rims on the car. Those look really slick, but they cost mucho dollars! (just guessin', but if GM wants $3000 for thier 17inchers...)

I think your next upgrade might be a paved road

The section in front of my house is fine; I phoned them about 10 times last summer to get it fixed. The problem is the first road section maintained by Chelsea. I'm not a resident so it's hard to waive your tax bill in their face.

Plus the road is built on clay. :D

Jean,

Did you buy it at Hamilton in Wakefield? Your specs sound familiar and I have taken a peek at one just like that before buying mine. I didn't want a dark color, so I didn't test drive, and then I decided to buy the automatic instead.

Happy riding :steering:

No I did not get it from Wakefield, Got it from Hull And they got it from Montreal .
They did not have any in stock and were pretty impressed with the colour when they received it.
Cheers

Hi all. Since you guys are in the Hull area, you live with the same 'WINTER' conditions as me in Oka PQ. So, just wondering if anybody gets their HHR treated for corrosion (ex: underside of car sprayed with an oil treatment before winter)??? Salt and calcium are MURDER :( on a car's body in the long run. So, I plan on getting some kind of 'acrylic' wax to protect the paint and an oil treatment for the underside. Any suggestions?? What do you guys do for winter protection?? Thanks.

I have been having mine sprayed with Krown. Either that or rust check would be your best bet IMHO. There are quite a few members here that do not believe in apply rust protection. I share their view regarding the dealer applied stuff but having had other cars treated with rust check or Krown, I decided to do the same with the HHR. The only down side is that it drips for a fair while afterwards.

I have done nothing in particular with the paint beyond a few applications of polish before the winter. My paint came through last winter great.

On the oil protection, I'm still debating over it.... I had it done (almost yearly) on a '92 Cherokee that I kept for 11 years, and it proved effective, in the sense that rust wasn't the issue when I replaced it. In fact, I sold it to a guy that had the same car but had just broken his frame rails (due to rust) on his. Mine were still in good shape.

Then I had my Elantra treated for 3 years and traded it for the HHR, so not enough time there to judge the effectiveness.

Past experience (Cherokee) tells me to get it done, but I also know that back in the '90, major efforts / manufacturing improvements have supposedly gotten rid of most of the rust issues. I'm still over the fence. I guess that inertia will lead me to wait and see how it comes out without it after one winter and then decide.

If you have it done, try and pick a place where you can drive the car in and out of the garage yourself; these guys take some precautions, but they still leave an oily mess of the inside...

On the paint itself, I just make sure that it has a good quality synthetic wax on it before the winter.

I have never had that problem from the rust inhibitor places.

Hey thanks everybody for your infos :thumb: Seems that a 'quality oil treatment' to the underside from a reputable place that guarentees no leaks etc..is the way to go for our 'friendly' winters. I was at my dealer's today and even they told me it's a good idea plus it won't affect the warrenty :D
Also stopped by this car cleaning center and they have a 'scealant' type of wax job with uv protection that they'll apply for about $55.00. Not bad no?
At least with global warming, we seem to be getting milder winters with less snow

..which is bad news from a rust perspective. Cars don't rust at -20C, but they do at +5C. And you're going to get rain anyways. I'll take -10C and a weekly dumping of snow all winter with joy over a rainy winter.

I have never had that problem from the rust inhibitor places

It depends on the outfit. All it takes is a messy employee and I got one last year. The place that I used for my Jeep used to let me drive it on and off the ramps when there were no other customers around. That was perfect; nobody with messy fingers in the car.
