IMO a wiser choice. ;) But the rumor is the Camaro SS is going to be starting around $40,000. The HHR SS is okay but it doesn't have me rushing out to trade. ;) If I want true performance the HHR doesn't seem like good starting ground even with a turbo. I might slap some parts from the HHR SS like the shocks and springs on my 2LT when they become available but that's about the extent of my desire for it.

That thing looks great!

I can't wait to read in Car and Driver or Motor Trend the highly intelligent commentary that this is just another case of the HHR being a copy of the PT. I mean, everyone loves the PT Panel....wait a tic...

Sarcasm aside, this looks pretty mean. I doubt there is much of a market for it, but that makes me respect Chevy more for having the balls to put it out there. The safe play would have been a cosmetic package with maybe the supercharged Cobalt SS motor. It takes some guts to put the turbo motor in there with the 5-speed.

Does the brochure mention an automatic?

Congrats to whoever is first to get one!:thumb:

The contract with Eaton ran out for the supercharger, so no more Cobalt SS/SC or even possible for a HHR SS/SC.

That would have been cool though....there's a guy around here with a Cobalt SS/SC and when he winds it out, man what a sweet sound....not as good as a V8 rumble but right up there :D

Am I seeing things wrong or is the bowtie in the grill slanted backwards? I am in total agreement about the bar in the grill being a little too high. I think if they moved it down and maybe made it a lil thicker it would look alot more natural.

OHHH, here we go ~~~~

the ones who modified their original grill to a 3-bar version are going to be claiming they designed the SS grill!!!

Wonder if they watched, via sites like this one, the trends on modifying the orginal HHR and tweaking of styles??

My opinion: Sharp looking front-end, interesting to have more power, sportier interior, but................. I still like the chrome grill that closer resembles an OLD Chevy! It does appear that the hood is the same, wonder if Grills would be inter-changeable??

Price will be interesting factor!!!

Later,
Mark

I had been considering an HHR and was going to wait for the SS. I had seen the spy photos and videos and the articles here and there.. I even called Chevy and was connected to someone in Marketing abour two weeks ago and the said they didn't know anything about the SS version of the HHR. I even went to a dealer and he looked at his "secret" web site and didn't show anything. So I'd been talking about the HHR and looking at it and hoping for the SS but didn't want to wait, and when both Chevy and the dealer said no SS, I decided to either wait or look at a 2LT.. So I took my wife and daughter to "look" at the HHR and Chevy did have the 4th of July offer until the 9th, so I ended up getting a pretty nice Blue 2LT with leather, sunroof and XM. I'm happy and I think I like the original grille style about that of the SS as I think it evokes the '48 Suburban more closely, but I am left to wonder what might have been.. Although when the lease is up on our Explorer, perhaps the HHR SS will be out and I can decide at that time.. Hey everythin happens for a reason, right? Well I'm off to make my wish list of addons and accessories. My daughter is calling the HHR "heather" but I think I'll spell it HHeatheR..

Now Mrs. 'S/S' is pretending she`s driving a stick:lol: ...it`s looking good.
Last time she even attempted, we were driving cross country from LA. to CHI..
She was supposed to drive during the day, I`d rest, and drive at night.
Kept trying to tell her to go around trucks and slow-pokes before she`d have to downshift... well never really got any rest.

So lets talk about this new baby.
It`s Turbo Charged and Intercooled, I`ll bet the engine compartment will be a show piece.
If the intercooler is in the lower grill, and according to the pix, there`s a mesh grill in place, I think a silverish intercooler with some sorta light set-up would be Fantabulous...

well it's been a long time coming.
That engine compartment looks interesting but there's not much detail there.
I for one wish the grille bar was a little lower, but maybe they need it there for maximum cooling with that t/c setup.

I think Chevy/GM should of left Victory Red in the past with the Spring Edition.

I have a '06 Spring Edition and I like the fact that I am one of two Victory red/SE HHR's within Bakersfield and one of 2300 period.

Special Editions should have special colors that aren't available in any other model or year afterward.

Just my $.02.

P.S. If the HHR SS is offered in an auto, I will be in line to buy one once they hit the dealers. Personally I like manuals for cars like this, but I have a bad left knee (4 surgeries) and the wife can't drive stick to save her life. Now its autos for life....

I doubt you will see a SS Panel. You might be able to special order on. But I don't see it happening. They will not put rear seats in the panel folks, too many safety issues there.

However, at the bottom of the page it says "HHR Panel 2LT in Silverstone Metallic/Black (not an available color combination)." Then why put it in the brochure?!?!? Oh well, maybe they are getting closer to producing the 2 tone from the factory.:thumb:

Here's what GM sent me in a email today:

No plans have been announced to produce an HHR SS. The website “chevyhhr.net” is not maintained by General Motors. Thus, General Motors is not responsible for the content of the website.

Although literature is not available at this time, we have processed a request to receive product information regarding the 2008 HHR. Once this information is available, you should receive it.

The HHR was scheduled to begin production on June 25, 2007. Vehicles generally begin arriving at dealers about 6 to 8 weeks later. Please keep in mind that production dates are preliminary and subject to change. Your preferred Chevrolet dealership is in the best position to advise you of when the 2008 HHR will be available in your area.

The Chevrolet website should be updated with 2008 HHR information on August 28, 2007. We recommend you periodically check for updates on the website listed below.

Once the HHR is available, contact your local dealer to schedule a test drive. If you are not familiar with one in your area, you may locate one at the website below. On the homepage, you will click on the Locate Dealer link.

At Chevrolet, we strive to provide outstanding customer service. If we can be of any further assistance, please email us or call 1-800-950-2438 between the hours of 8:00 am to 11:00 pm Eastern Time, seven days a week. Thank you for contacting Chevrolet.

In three weeks, at the GM Powertrain show, I'll see what comes about as far as brochures go. The local GM dealers get displays going of new model year vehicles every year, and the Chevy rep happens to be my dealer (Paddock), the most HHR-knowledgeable dealer in the Buffalo area. We also occasionally get concepts (we had the HHR there three years ago prior to the first delivery at Paddock), so **crosses fingers** if, by any chance, there is an SS there, I'll get pictures. :thumb:

The "450" number was just for promotion. The mileage is the same. I have seen mine state over 500 numerous times (strickly highway of course). The "480" number comes from 30mpg w/16 gallons. They know now the HHR can get the advertised mileage. They could only speculate that two years ago.

Once you do those things, you can pretty much forget about watching MPG.
Both are designed for non-conserving driving.. If you`re slowly accelerating, you won`t hear the muffler sound, and you certainly won`t need better air flow...

Hey, I like them "Bumperettes" But I guess they have to go. Can't have cute/retro and fast, now can we? I dunno, I'm not sold on the front end. Two styles at cross purposes. Hope it looks nice in person.

Nice video. Seems to show the chassis remaining pretty stable during all that spirited tire shredding:thumb: Quite pixilated though, I felt we were looking through a screendoor under water.

Chevy has formally introduced the 2008 HHR SS Turbocharged. Check out the photos at http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=19211.

I love the new fascias and engine but the relocation of the power window switches to the drivers door is the most exciting part!

They couldn't have put the window switches there in the first place?

Incredible.

Hello All, Im new here. I wanted to mention a bit about myself, My Name is Jonathan > But at the moment I drive a Fully Loaded GT Convertible PT Cruiser (its fun) but now that HHR SS is growing on me, and hopefully ill be able to own one of these one day. However, i liked the hhr when they first came out, but what kept me away was the engine, but now that i heard bout the ss version so im reconsidering.

however, im a bit disappointed with the "color choices"

They arent gonna even offer one in WHITE?!?! (that my car is a white beauty) as well, but no white hhr ss?

could anyone confirm, the reason why i didnt see the white was listed thru this quote i saw on a few pages back.

location of the boost gauge will make the blind spot in that area wider. The pillars are too wide as it is now. They should have added oil, temp and boost gauges in the middle of the dash instead.

I wonder if they are all going to come with that orange/red accent interior. It really rubs me the wrong way, I'd like to see a blue color personally but than again some people might like it.

No, they won't all have the red accent color. There is a thread somewhere that states the interior color options.

And they added a passenger side lock to the handle.
