What type of music do HHR owners like? Personally, I listen to classic rock (and the comedy channels on XM) most of the time. But I also like jazz, sometimes classical; just about anything except rap.

But I also like jazz, sometimes classical; just about anything except rap. adamlowery 02-23-2006, 12:07 PM just about anything except rap. That sums me up. I even listen to music I don't understand. Polish Opera, German Country music is really different if anyone ever gets a chance to listen to some. Oldies, Classic Rock, Modern Rock, Alternative, Jazz, All music is great. Except for rap. Its retarded. All they do is tell you what to do. Ontop of that most of the "rappers" arent even talented. I always though Tech 9ine was good, only because that guy can rap faster than anything, but I can still understand him. Firewatcher 02-23-2006, 12:37 PM Let's see......classic rock, Irish folk (and bawdy pub songs), bagpipe bands (I've been a piper for 6 years) SoCalHHR 02-23-2006, 12:44 PM I'm a recording engineer (30+ years now) also, so have a wide variety of musical tastes. Mostly jazz or any type of music with a "live, open" sound. I hate the uber-layered and hyper-compressed sound many of today's CD's are fronting. Give me something with depth and detail where I can pick out all the instruments in the mix. (what did you expect!) As a side note - I haven't cared much for rap either in the past, but last year I had an opportunity to mix and master for a rap artist in South Carolina. That was the first rap style I've actually enjoyed (*of course, I had a lot of input on the final sound). If you want to hear some clips of my work, they can be found HERE (http://www.wfstudios.net/audio.html). (The rap artist's song is "Carolina Anthem") Good thread idea! :thumb: ng8650 02-23-2006, 01:02 PM Everything...including rap and Latin music. That is one of the big reasons I subscribe to Sirius satellite radio. I was born in the 70's when Disco was big, so I like that. In the early 80's Breakdancing was big, so I like all music that was influenced from that era, rap, hip-hop, RnB, soul, etc. I lived in Puerto Rico for a couple of years, so I like most Latin music, Salsa Merengue, Reggaeton etc. The late 80's Metal was big, so I even like bands like Metallica. Early 90's Alternative was big, so I like bands like Nirvana. Add to the list Reggae, classic rock, and some Country music. I am an equal opportunity music lover. Ng DJNateGnau 02-23-2006, 01:23 PM Jazz, Swing, Blues, A lil' Country, And Reggae. Oh yeah, A lil rock too. txsman2930 02-23-2006, 01:24 PM I pretty much listen to Classic Rock, 50's-80's music, Alternative, some techno, and even been known to tinker around with Country music now and then. Oh and can't forget latin music. Cumbia, Tejano, Merengue, Salsa, etc. Gotta stick to the latin Heritage. ARRIBA!! :thumb: However I absolutely stay away from all Opera, Rap, and this modern junk they consider Pop Music... Skatetheglobe 02-23-2006, 01:27 PM I like Punk,Hip Hop and some Metal.I'm not talking about the pop punk BS they play on MTV and the radio.I like stuff like Wu Tang,Nas,Outkast,2 Pac,Biggie,Ludacris,Lagwagon,BigWig,88 fingers Louie,Rise Against,System of a Down,God Forbid.Stuff like that. captain howdy 02-23-2006, 01:29 PM I listen to so many types of music and so many bands I can't even beging to start listing. I mostly listen to Hip-Hop, Metal, Punk, Hardcore, and good old fashon Rock & Roll. But like I said I dig tons of music so pretty much everything is fair game to my ears even stuff like Surf, Swing, and Raggae. The only music I don't really dig is Pop music with all of it's disposable stars and most County music. I do have a liking for Rockabilly and Honky Tonk music so I don't hate all Country music either. Right now in my six disk I have The Kottonmouth Kings, The Misfits, Styles of Beyond, Rancid, Danzig, and Slayer, but that will change of course. I think my all time favorite artist is Glenn Danzig and my all time favorite groups would be The Kottonmouth Kings, The Misfits, Slayer, Biohazard, The Murderdolls, and Slipknot. clenchfist.net 02-23-2006, 01:48 PM I listen to Hard Rock and Metal. I also like Oldies every now and than,it's a little relaxing compared to what I really like, lol. ILL2DEF 02-23-2006, 01:53 PM I like just about everything. Mostly hip-hop (not rap, I hate most rap, there IS a difference), new wave, drum n' bass, punk (Pistols,Ramones stuff like that), classic rock, hair metal, e-z listening, disco, techno/dance, just about everything, I even like a few country songs. I grew up in the 80's during the MTV generation so theres always gonna be a special place for that type of music with me, but also have 70's, 60's and some 50's influences. Music is life to me and I MUST have it always!!! djhubba 02-23-2006, 01:54 PM I am pretty diverse in my musical tastes but cant stand emo or todays so called pop music. My better half Dawn loves Metal and Punk and I was so proud when my teenager Dakota told me his favorite band was the Ramones. It would have been a dark day if he said Brittney Spears or some vomit inducing boy band...LOL captain howdy 02-23-2006, 01:57 PM Mostly hip-hop (not rap, I hate most rap, there IS a difference) Amen! captain howdy 02-23-2006, 01:59 PM It would have been a dark day if he said Brittney Spears or some vomit inducing boy band...LOL ROTFLMAO! monster5601 02-23-2006, 02:05 PM Play the blues, just play the blues.... Sometimes I'll slide over to the 60's channel or deep tracks. I've been listening to Sirius more than XM lately because I like the blues playlist on Sirius better. snova031 02-23-2006, 02:07 PM Classic hip-hop- Aceyalone, A Tribe Called Quest, Organized Konfusion, Souls of Mischief, Eric B & Rakim, Large Professor, etc. Also, a lot of underground hip-hop- Apathy, Murs, Louis Logic, Arsonists, Brother Ali. Some hip-hop instrumentalists- RJD2, Pete Rock, Blockhead. Also listen to Evanescence, Coldplay, Audioslave, a little Linkin Park, some older Metallica. hottstixx 02-23-2006, 03:17 PM Well ,you opened a whole new can of worms here, I like most genre's of music except Country (like old country Patsy Cline Johnny Cash) the Country music these days in basically watered down rock and roll, then there is the music that is labeled Rap or Hip Hop, the only band that I was into would have been Rage Against the Machine. Being a drummer of nearly 31 yrs now, I of course lean towards almost all forms of Rock because I like playing real hard and aggressive music, '70's I would have to say most of my choices are based on great drummers and/or great rhythm sections, Led Zep Bonham and Jones(told often I sound much like Bonham) the Who Entwhistle and Moon, Blue Oyster Cult Albert and Joe Bouchard ( 1 1/2 yrs ago had an audition with them, they liked my sound, but I think they were looking for somebody locally,N.Y.) Deep Purple,Glover and Paice, Black Sabbath, Butler and Ward ,Emerson Lake and Palmer,Lake/Palmer Pink Floyd, Waters/Mason just to mention a few. 80's would never go without mentioning New Wave or Punk, although there were many great punk bands out there ,like the Sex Pistols, the Clash,Black Flag and the band called X just to mention a few, I would have to agree with an earlier post, THE RAMONES were an incredible punk band ,I mean after all they started the whole Punk Movement. 90's too many Hair bands and they destoyed the true meaning of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, I could go on and on about all the different decades of music, although I don't have a month of spare time to go into all of my music likes. I also like many of the new artist out there, you know the dropped D seven string sound (although these artist have forgotton what a good guitar solo is) Bands like, Disturbed,Godsmack,Thrice,Audioslave, and Chevelle are in my huge cd collection. Well , I don't want to take much more of your time here, I could write about this subject for next month or so....Thanks for taking the time to read my book here :D ng8650 02-23-2006, 03:32 PM ROTFLMAO! Boy bands should not be considered as music! :D Ng SoCalHHR 02-23-2006, 03:44 PM Du Jour, baby! You consider RATM to be Rap or Hip-Hop? I always thought that they were Hard Rock/Metal... I still use a playlist from them as my psyche-up music before hockey games. I personally like Heavy Alterna-Rap Metal-Hop with a Hard-Blues Classic-Grunge Rock-Reggae feel. :thumb: _______________ "Aliens for Hire" - Your equal opportunity abductor... captain howdy 02-23-2006, 04:09 PM I personally like Heavy Alterna-Rap Metal-Hop with a Hard-Blues Classic-Grunge Rock-Reggae feel. :thumb: Sublime? TXLeXTC 02-23-2006, 04:10 PM I listen to all kinds of stuff. Pre HHR, mostly country, with a mix of hip hop/soul/r&b/top 40 depending on the day. first 2 days in the HHR, NOTHING but the XM jazz stations. Since, NOTHING but XM comedy, cept when the fam is in the car, and then its local talk radio. adamlowery 02-23-2006, 04:12 PM It's awesome that most of us aren't so stuck on one type of music. There are sooo many people like that I kinda feel sorry for them. Whether the ONLY listen to country (my father) or they ONLY listen to rap (90% of teens between 14-18 "bc its "cool"") Theres tons of good music out there and you just gotta enjoy it all. AlienHHR 02-23-2006, 04:28 PM Sublime? Ha, ha... yeah, I like Sublime! I started making a list of artists that I like, but once I got a good look at it I said to myself, "Damn, you're old" and decided not to post it! I mean I liked ABBA and the New Seekers when I was a kid (don't ask)... But I lived through the Hair Band and Heavy Metal era and progressed into the Seattle Grunge sound. What I find funny is how certain songs today remind me of songs from 20-30 years ago, just slightly updated due to technology I imagine. ivtech 02-23-2006, 04:49 PM Main is 50's & 60's Rock & Roll and Classic and Current Country. (early in the am) :red: shugga 02-26-2006, 11:49 AM Am I the only one that listens to Christian music? I also like some country, pop and classic rock. I like old school blues like Muddy Waters, Lightning Slim and Howling wolf. I Can't stand rap and any thing that hurts the ears. I like easy listning. Sorry, I got behind in this thread. I'm not a christian, but I listen to quite a bit of "christian" music. In my post, I listed some of the stuff I listen too. Stavesacre, Chevelle, Haste the Day. Most of these bands shun the title of "christian music", but they usually get lumped into that genre. Celldweller used to be in a industrial band called Circle of Dust. Good stuff, although not for the faint of heart. Some of the lyrics of Celldweller might offend. Thought I'd give you a reply since it didn't look like anyone else did. :thumb: jaydogg 02-26-2006, 12:14 PM well i listen to classic rock, rock, metal, alternative, rap, hip-hop, and if the mood strikes some classical. It all really depends on what kind of mood im in. Skatetheglobe 02-26-2006, 04:13 PM I'm the same way. I'm kind of suprised no one mentioned any Ska yet. Sorry but in the words of Propagandhi "Ska Sucks" captain howdy 02-26-2006, 04:18 PM But I feel happy listening to ska. :) Ska shows are always fun and the kids that show up usually look like idiots. :D I love old ska like The Specials as well as modern ska. Ska Punk crossovers can be cool also. ;) Jddrumman 02-26-2006, 10:58 PM Sorry, I got behind in this thread. I'm not a christian, but I listen to quite a bit of "christian" music. There's a lot of diversity with Celldweller. One of the ways to describe celldweller is to say that celldweller can be played for a mosh pit as well as for a dance club. Really depends on the song. captain howdy 02-27-2006, 09:39 AM One of the ways to describe celldweller is to say that celldweller can be played for a mosh pit as well as for a dance club. I am curious about who is on this site! fenris222 02-27-2006, 04:48 PM I dunno how I missed this thread, but music and art are my life. Being raised in Montana, I do like the older country such as Jim Reeves, Hank Sr., Jerry Lee Lewis. Also like alot of the old 50's, 60's, and 70's music. I also like alot of different Metal Bands. I play Bass Clarinet, Guitar, and Bass. Not saying that I am great, but I just like to have fun. My passion is pUnK RaWk though - D.O.A Black Flag Dayglo Abortions Sub Humans, Ramones, Pistols, Social D, MDC, DRI, Circle Jerks, I think you get the picture. I am very familiar with the Seattle Scene, moved out there in 83, left temporarily in 2002 and am currently in Detroit. My best friend of 36 years played in a Punk Band called Deranged Diction in Missoula, MT and headed to Seattle as I did in 83...then in late 1990 he started in a band called "Mookie Blaylock" they had to change the name of the band and they changed music history...so yeah, I love music of all kinds, but punk and hardcore are still my passion... Clarke33 03-13-2006, 08:22 AM HAHA, There's always time for that. Hell, I just started listening to Don McLean, And Harry Chapin (compilation cd). Well, THat and Weird Al... :p: Amish Paradise. Good times... ;) I met Harry Chapin, back in the seventies, while working security at the local civic center. I worked there when I was in college and got to meet a bunch of different entertainers. Harry Chapin was the nicest of all of them. I was sad to hear that he was killed in a auto accident some years back. By the way, the biggist a$$hole I met was, so called country star, Charlie Pride. deadhead 03-21-2006, 07:15 PM Wow I listen to so many types of music that it is hard to list everything but the grateful dead are one of my ultimate favorites. I love a lot of jam music such as moe, string cheese incident, yonder mountain string band. I also grew up as a metalhead listening to Iron maiden, motorhead, black sabbath, kiss, and I also used to listen to a lot of punk. That is why I love sirius I get in a mood for something and I can turn it on. I like the blues a lot and some jazz, Frank Zappa is another fav as well as some progressive Rush, Yes, and dream theater. Do not like classical or rap and like good country such as Hank Williams Sr.,Jr., and the third. Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and the outlaw country artists I like. It seems a lot of the bands mentioned in here I like. You guys take care and keep rockin! (Capt.will be glad too). :D We (Cleveland) have a Grateful Dead tribute band called: "Sugar Magnolia" along with quite a few good Jam bands. Always a musical good time! Skully 03-22-2006, 02:18 AM ACDC, Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Limp Bizkit, Ozzy, Linkin Park, Static-X, Staind, Korn, System Of The Down, Marilyn Manson and the list goes on and on. deadhead 03-26-2006, 11:59 PM Hey Jon do not know if you have seen or heard of them but there is a tribute band called Dark Star Orchestra. They tour all across the US and are probably one of the best Grateful Dead cover bands. When they do a show they recreate one of the deads concerts song for song. These guys are great and I highly recommend them if you like the dead and ever get a chance to see them. Have tickets to go see Hank Williams the third this next sat. and I can not wait, heard his concerts are a great time. Plays a set of country and then comes out and plays a set with his punk band should be interesting. DJNateGnau 03-27-2006, 12:22 AM Hank the third is awesome... Been to his before. Oh uh, Tell me if he plays Cocaine Blues, OK? deadhead 03-27-2006, 10:17 AM DJNATE I also love that song, have seen george thorogood about 10 times and he plays that song also in his sets. Oh uh, Tell me if he plays Cocaine Blues, OK? I have seen him (Hank the III) in Super Joint Ritual, and his new band "Ass Jack". YEAH! :p: cowboybornlate 03-27-2006, 07:01 PM I pretty much like all kinds of music... grew up listening to Dad's old country, Hank, Willie, Waylon, Charlie Pride, Charlie Rich... you get the point... My Mom played piano, so I got a taste of gospel and classic.. I love the blues and jazz... and I have a range of younguns around from 10 to 24 so I get a taste of hip/hop and rap... not much I don't listen too as long as the lyrics don't get too crazy as with some of the rap... CBL deadhead 04-02-2006, 12:40 PM Saw Hank Williams the third last night and what an unbelivable show. He is surrounded with some great musicians and the show was great. I did not care for the punk metal set he plays so we only hung around for 2 songs of that and left the club, but the country set was worth the price of admission. DOA, Dayglo Abortions, DK's, Circle Jerks, Black Flag, Social D, MDC...you get the picture:bow: DaJoker 05-23-2006, 10:29 AM Yep, but punk/hard core/industrial/hard rock guy here. Misfits, Danzig, SocialD.. then throw in some Skinny Puppy, Front 242, Kraftwerk.. Then drift on to some Stabbing Westward, NIN.. then kick it with some new stuff like Seether, Stone Sour, Wolfmother.. Then you gotta have The Pogues, Dropkick Murpheys and Black Flag for some flair.. Of course, I get it all via both my Sirius and XM subs.. 53 Fungus on XM for my Punk/Hardcore/Industrial fix, then off to 20 Octane on Sirius for some rock. captain howdy 05-26-2006, 07:46 PM How about Rebel Meets Rebel? They are great! If you love outlaw country or love metal or love both you need to check them out. ;) It's Dimebag, Vinnie, and Rex formerly of Pantera with David Allan Coe. I haven't been able to stop listening to them since the CD came out at the begining of month. It's kind of hard to listen to though because it is one of Dimebags last recordings before his death. :( Everytime I listen to it I feel sad about him being shot to death. :bye: DaJoker 05-26-2006, 07:52 PM CH, at the club they were playing at, it was bound to happen eventually. When I lived in Columbus, I used to live only 3 blocks from the place. It is a dive. I mean, the worst case scenario for a dive. It's standing room only at 150 capacity, but they always violated their capacity and would shove 180+ people in there all the time. On that particular night, rumor has it they had close to 200 folks in that place. Not sure where they were putting folks, but I guess girls dancing on the bar tops would help alleviate some of it huh? captain howdy 05-26-2006, 08:05 PM I don't think there will ever be another guitarist like him. :( He definitely had his own signature sound. The one time I got seriously pissed at my boss was over Dimebag after it happened. Knowing me he asked if I was morning the loss of Dimebag mockingly. I of course told him yes because we lost one of the greatest guitarist of all time. He responded that to him it was just the death of another doper and anyone that calls themself Dimebag deserves to die. :wtf: :cussing: I just bit my tongue, turned around, and walked away before I lost my job. captain howdy 05-26-2006, 08:18 PM Saw Hank Williams the third last night and what an unbelivable show. His sound and talent is like no other and i dont think will ever be duplicated. His lose was a great waste of a great human being. some good clips of him playing are here http://www.rebelmeetsrebel.com/photos/thumbnails.php?album=21 now as far as what i listen to. anything from the alice in chains / soundgarden era to pantera, slayer, crowbar, zakk wylde, bls, to kiss, acdc (bon scott) i could go on and on |
