Hi,

I just turned 30K on my LT1 with stock 16" Wheels and it's about time for tires. I live in the mountains and have rounded off the OEM tires. I added the rear sway bar.

Anyone have any thoughts on tire choices?

I checked TireRack and they show Yokohama Avid T4s as a good choice but no actual HHR experience.

Cheers,
Bryan

:welcome: I have done some research on what I will put on Rebel Grey soon.My two choices are either Michelin HydroEdge or Goodyear Assurance Tripletread.Down here the biggest weather concern is heavy rain,so I need a good "rain tire".In your case snow is a concern.I think the Goodyear has been reported to do well in snow.Just my :2cents:  EDIT...my bad...I thought you were in Colorado...do you get any snow where you are in California?

I have the 17" wheels and I went one size wider than stock (225/50/17). I've been rockin' kuhmo ecsta spt's for about 3 or 4 months and so far the tire out performs the car, they handle great. I have about 6000 miles on them and have not rotated them yet. They seem to be wearing very well. I really like them alot. Good luck whatever you choose.:thumb:

I know someone who bought Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's and loves them. Says the ride is a little stiffer, but that they are much more responsive than the stock tires. They are great in the rain and grip very well from what I understand. :thumb:

Hydroedge was a nice tire on my Matrix but I bought Exaltos to replace them after 8K miles due to the excessive noise on the Edges....could have been because of the Matrix also as other peeps say they are a very quiet tire

Nice tire other than the noise for me...great in snow and rain...as I said a lot of tires were noisy on the Matrix so I would think it is more related to the car than tire

I would go with anything except Firestone's. After our sidewall was slashed, GM could not give (sell) us a replacement because the tire was so new (apparently Firestone only made enough tires for the HHR's at the Mexico factory).

Go with Goodyear's, Yokohama or Hankook's.

The Nitto NeoGen is an INCREDIBLE tire. Not sure of size availability but they work great on my 20's and are an ALL season tread. Several STi and Evo owners use the NeoGen as their winter tire since its one of a VERY few Z rated all season tread that actually grips in snow. A couple 350Z owners also use these as winter tires. Just throwing out my .02!

I'm at about 35,000 and have to replace mine soon. I'm leaning toward Toyo Proxes 4. They were the last set of tires I had on my Mustang before I sold it and I loved them.

en0oNmAI brought up an excellent point. What are you looking for these tires to do. Black Knights new wheels will only be 3 season and then back to stock for winter so I guess its not important to me how well they handle snow.

I have about 11,000 miles on mine and the more miles I add the worse the stock Firestones ride. I will be replacing them with Yokohama tires from the tire rack. I had them on 3 of my previous rides and loved them.

Which model of the Yoks?

I only have 6K on my Firestones and they are starting to ride a bit jittery and a low hum from the rear tires now...granted I haven't rotated them but at 6k they feel a lot older than that

Look at the survey results. The Firestone Firehawk tires are dead last
