On the way home from work today, a speeding commercial dump truck goes by me on the highway and just as he passed me, rocks fly out from underneath it pelting my hood and windshield! :cussing:
The windshield has about 6 tiny nicks, but the hood took a beating with about 5-6 new chips with one not just down to the metal, but into the metal!!
I'm still fuming, but I quickly grabbed the touch-up paint to cover it all up.

That :censored: pisses me off! Transporting rock that way should be illegal!

I know that it's used, but I still love my :hhr: All this and my first payment is due this Friday. :(

Thanks for letting me vent.

Sorry to hear that 06 I feel for you, I've been there to may times to count. Did you happen to get any information off the truck, if so you should call and talk to the owner to have repairs done. Good luck and again sorry to hear of your rotten afternoon.:guns:

It really sucks when this happens!

Sounds good in theory but rarely pans out, esp w/o independent witnesses.:(

That just burns my a$$ when that happens. Had a rock come up and pit a small pit in the windshield over the weekend...but not from a big rock truck. Can't hurt to contact the company if you have the info, but they will need at least the license plate #, time of day and location. At least that's what they ask for here.

Ack that sucks....I doubt you would have any luck getting anything off of the drivers company though...I hate being behind them on the highway...I'll slow down, speed up go 2 lanes over...whatever it takes to get away from those paint chippers!

Thanks everyone.

Ya, I didn't get any info, but I doubt it would do me any good.

Typically, if the damage isn't directly caused by something that comes out of the trucks container it is useless to attempt to get some sort of compensation. Even if a smaller sized rock or something like that comes out of the truck you'd be hard pressed to prove anything.

Imagine the insane number of lawsuit that would come about if you could get damage payments from drivers whose cars kick up a rock at your vehicle, it would be crazy!

I checked the hood again this morning and I'm pleased with the touch-up paint. I'll be added another layer this afternoon. Hopefully, that will be enough.

It depends on whether that truck was part of a constuction project, or if you can prove that, that`s the route the trucks carrying rocks travel on a regular basis.
You may get some compensation, but is it worth the hassle?
If the touch-up paint works, fine... over time there`ll be more dings, the HHR is a ding/chip magnet. I put a clear bra on mine, still testing...
Just above the "C" there`s a ding, the vinyl just goes over it, really the only big one to show up.

I'm pretty sure in PA there's a law regarding that... If the material being transported has the possibility of flying out, it needs to be covered with a tarp. And the driver can get a ticket/fine if they lose material out of the load.

It definatly is in SC. Back in 2004 we got hit by something that flew out of a truck bed.

Of course that was a soaking wet queen size mattress that did $5K in damage to my wifes 7 month old MPV.

I think the rocks came from between the tailgate. :thumbsdow I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. :(

If that happens to my HHR, I'll follow that dude till he winds up at his destination with digital pics and an attitude. Police will be called en route.
