View Full Version : HHR vs Porsche
VincentStimpanzee 08-09-2007, 03:09 PM A friend of mine owns a 1984 2.5L Porsche 944. We had a good race to about 80 mph. We where side by side the entire race.
I have a vid of an earlier race, it was in the rain, and I had one short shift.

Every race that starts with a roll I end up winning.

HHR PNOY 08-09-2007, 06:09 PM 1984 Porsche 944 (0-60) 9.0 (1/4) 16.4
people with smart comments before looking up info = owned!
thanks for the info guitHHR!
At least the HHR can hang with an import...even though the porsche is 23 years old.
captain howdy 08-09-2007, 06:12 PM I believe it because 944s suck! Wasn't that the mistake that drove Porsche to the brink of financial disaster.
GuitHHR 08-09-2007, 06:13 PM If only we could run with the 911 turbos. Now that would be cool.:D
HHR PNOY 08-09-2007, 06:15 PM you mean this beauty?
Powered by 2.5 liter, 4-cylinder engine built at Porsches Zuffenhausen factory, it was capable of producing 174 horsepower. The engine was placed in the front and powered the rear transaxle. In-line 4-cylinder engines were often plagued with vibrations so Porsche negotiated a deal with Mitsubishi for the use of their 2-balance shafts. A 5-speed manual gearbox was mated to the engine and an optional automatic was available.

captain howdy 08-09-2007, 06:21 PM :laughabov There is a dude at work that thinks he's bad ass for owning a 944 even though he only paid like 5 or 6 grand for it. Now that I know an HHR can hang I should hand him his ass with my 4 door retro Cobalt wagon. :rof:
GuitHHR 08-09-2007, 06:26 PM That would be pretty damn funny:lol: Have someone video that would ya.
CrashMan82 08-09-2007, 06:36 PM Take them on a road course ;)
And HHR PONY, if I'm not mistaken that picture's actually a 944S (or s2 or s4)which didn't get produced until later (88 I think).
Either way... Porsche's never been known (or concerned) for straightline acceleration, your average Vette will blow the production Turbos (944s or 911s away at a stoplight, but once the Vette has to make a turn the Porsche will be a block away before the Vette's back on the gass :D
smart_wrap 10-25-2007, 12:53 PM Does anyone know how SLOW the 1984 944 is? When I had my Porsche everyone wanted to race me. I would get beat by just about everything. I would be more impressed if you said I smoked my mom in her a Kia Sedona.

killerhhr 10-25-2007, 04:56 PM I owned a porsche 924s years ago.It did have a great take off but it was pretty good at top speed. The hhr should eat a 924 or 944 if the hhr is a 5spd.If the porsches are stock.

I hope you don't mean the new Vettes becasue they are spanking everything nowadays from Porches to Ferrari's. The last Motor trend test wouldn't even allow the Z06 to compete it had to be a base Corvette to make it fair.

With those times it should have been debadged at the factory.

Racing in the rain in traffic. How intelligent is that? Gotta do it safer.
Armadillo 03-04-2008, 12:25 AM I used to own a 85.5 944. In corners it was welded to the road, great handling. I got 0-60 times under 8 in mine, and I also drove it in autocross with a Porsche club.
I didnt do much street racing, but I did beat a souped up RX7 with the 944. He was on my tail until a curve when I left him behind.
It was not the fastest thing, but I do not believe a properly running and properly driven 944 could be beat by a normal HHR.
