View Full Version : HHR SS Pricing and Questions
isomswim 08-16-2007, 08:57 PM So just maybe guesstimating prices i figure about starting at 20k. what yall think? if thats the case im all for it when it comes out if not i have to wait till spring.
after reading some of the press releases i have questions about the manual tranny. i do and i dont know how to drive a stick (i can somewhat drive my friends jeep, and those with older jeeps understand). i know with the newer cars its almost impossible to miss gear. is the transmission in the SS a more friendly shifting trans? will the operation be pretty easy, just clutch without letting of the accelerator then throw into next gear? i want a car with all possible horses.
also reading the releases i saw where it says that the turbo can push up to 20 psi. on that engine how many horses yall think that is? 300? at crank maybe?
thanks for any help/opinions
GDZHHR 08-16-2007, 09:00 PM Considering this is gear toward high performance I doubt that it's going to be very forgiving.
I'm guessing they'll be listed at $23-25K.
They'd have to at least start at what a 2LT lists for, IMO.
isomswim 08-16-2007, 09:07 PM yeah guess i may be just dreaming a lot. i was just also checking out the solstice forum. this would be the best place to look around for performance mods considering the same engine is used. no exhaust and intakes wont fit but boosting and other mods will. some guys over there are seeing 275+ just by changing to a different intercooler and maybe "intake".

solman98 08-17-2007, 07:23 AM Max out a 2LT and start from there. The SS will already be loaded. No much left to add (if any).
I'm guessing you won't be able to touch one for under 25K.
misterjensen 08-17-2007, 08:43 AM The supercharged Cobalt SS model is about $3000 more than the non performance model; I would expect the HHR SS to see a similar increase. Don't forget that the 280 HP Dodge Caliber SRT (a competitor to the HHR) is coming out this fall for $19,999, so Chevrolet isn't going to want to go crazy with their pricing.

You've always been able to buy a Dodge cheaper than a Chevy in a comparable model. You won't see the HHR SS sticker for $20K. If they offer the SRT Caliber for $20K (which I couldn't find that on the link you provided), I bet it will be a fairly stripped version. I would be willing to wager that a lot more research and development went into the HHR than the Caliber.
I give Dodge credit for offering it in a manual only 6-speed though. I wish they would do that in the HHR.
O6ChevyHHR 08-17-2007, 09:22 AM Im sure the price will be high at frist since its in damand, I think anywhere from 24k-28k.. my guess. But if they do want to still win over Dodge, then it may be in the 20k range.
cperez1217 08-17-2007, 12:31 PM I am hoping it starts at 23 without sunroof i will definitley swap if so. Much more than that and I will have to wait.
MOTRV8D 08-17-2007, 05:57 PM Well if pricing on Camaros is any indication, $3000 seems like Chevy's price increment for performance. I remember back when I bought my Z28 in 98, it was $3K more for a Z28 than for the V6 model and it was $3K above the Z28 for the SS. So whatever the MSRP is for the base model, it will prolly be about $3k more for the SS.
Of course what they will actually charge as a "dealer premium" when they first hit the showrooms is anyone's guess...

I know there are a number of us here who want them, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that the HHR SS is "in demand" just yet. I think that after they are out a few months and people get a chance to check them out, demand will pickup. I'm dealing with the largest Chevrolet dealer in my state, and I'm the only one asking about the HHR SS.

A stick tranny is easy to learn,it`s just getting the rhythm of moving your hand and foot together. If you really want an SS don`t let it deter you.
SandyBeach 08-17-2007, 07:04 PM But some manual transmissions are much harder than others. Don't buy one in a full size American pickup. Most foreign cars are very easy to shift. I drove many manual transmissions for 20 years!
As for the price, if it's set near $25K, I might as well buy a hybrid. I just don't think it will sell if it's that high. I was very interested, started negotiating with my son to buy my used 2006. But, it won't happen at that price!
HHRAZ 08-18-2007, 01:16 AM my friend the chevy dealer called me today to tell me that order will start in November and that the ss will start at 25K bucks with delivery in late Dec or Jan
MOTRV8D 08-18-2007, 01:27 AM well if it starts at $25K, it better be worth it. it better be damn good for that money.
that's pretty high for an HHR to start at. It's still an HHR for gods sake.
When you consider that the SS will come fairly well equipped and that a well optioned out 2LT hits the $24k range, the SS will likely start well over $25k, and just under $30k at tops. The same LNF engine brings about a $3k premium on the Solstice and Sky I recall.
With it being marketed as the "hot thing", you can count on dealers cashing in on this with fat markups, too. Heck when the HHR was first introduced one of our local dealers was tacking on an additional $3,500.00!! When the salesman said that was not negotiable because of the high demand, I told him "not from me!" and never went back. Got a great deal elsewhere.
MOTRV8D 08-18-2007, 12:01 PM Yes I know all about dealer markups, called a "dealer premium," around here in So Cal. That would be silly to pay that. A fool and his money...
BTW what is an LNF engine? I googled it and came up with nothing except "Liquid Nitrogen Fuel", and I know that's not right! :rof:

The 2.0 turbo Ecotec is the LNF engine. The 2.2 is the L61 and the 2.4 is the LE5.
MOTRV8D 08-18-2007, 01:22 PM oh so LNF is just a motor designation, not an acronym. I get it.
