08 HHR Build log.

So I decided to make a little build log over here of the stereo install we're doing. Havn't gotten to terribly far yet but that should change here over the next week or so. Just some info of stuff that's going in.

Eclipse AVN6620, with iPod, Bluetooth, and Rear Reverse camera.

DLS Iridium Ultimate 6.3i 3 way speakers.

2 DIYMA 12" subs (if you guys don't know what these are I'll have to post pictures but they are custom made)

Right now we're in the process of changing amps. I originally bought 2 Alpine PDX amps but then I found some very nice DLS amps for a very good price. So hopefully we'll get a sale on these Alpines and I'll be able to grab the DLS amps. If we do it'll be a DLS Reference RA20 for the fronts and a DLS Ultimate D6 mono for the subs.

Also going in is a Viper 5901 2 way paging remote start alarm system.

Also a bunch of sound treatments going in. You'll see some of it in the pictures but that's just the first layer. Going to do another layer of that and then either rubber or foam on top of it for a sound barrier.

This setup is purely sound quality.

Basically I'm just going to post the pics I have so far. They are pretty self explanitory. I was running wiring and Chris (brother who owns said HHR) was installing the sound dampener in the wheel well getting it ready for fiberglass. We also installed the camera into the bumper. I think it turned out ok. I'm going to try and find a rubber gromet of some sort to fit in there and probably make the hole a bit larger so that the whole camera fits through a bit and the gromet holds it in place.

These last couple of images are some of the new tools I just got. Also the giant roll of fiberglass mat we got. It's 38" wide and 70 yards long. We got a piece of aluminum square tube and some coated wire with locks and hung it from the rafters.

Pics removed, didn't want to resize them here is the album link. http://s24.photobucket.com/albums/c3...5/HHR%20Build/

Just wanted to add that I put up some more pics in the album. There will be a few more from today probably as we're doing more fiberglass work. I think we have about 3-4 layers on the sub enclosure. I may start on the tweeter/midrange pods today as well.

really looking forward to seeing the headunit in the dash. I'm looking at the same model and want to see how it blends in before i spend the money.

The head unit is already in the dash, I put pics up :) It's a great unit we really like it a lot! I find the GPS to be far better then any TomTom or other hand held unit we've used. It doesn't name streets through voice but with the extra stuff it gives you on screen we haven't missed it.

So I finally finished putting the subs in! I know it's been a crazy long time hah! Going to start working on the speaker pods again soon. Haven't had time to do any of this until recently. The DLS 3-ways are now powered by a DLS Ultimate A3 and the DIYMA 12 is powered by the DLS RA20. Sounds pretty darn good but I know the sub needs some break-in.

Yeah we've got some more work to do still. We are going to modify the top piece that goes on there so that it vents through and then cover it in the faux suede we have.
