Adding 2nd AUX input port

Adding 2nd AUX input port
Do I really need to go through all this (https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...r-21568/page2/) trouble to add another AUX input port. Mine is pretty loose and the only way to get some sound without static noise is to hold the plug with a finger.
I came across a few videos on YouTube where people simply splice Left Speaker, Right Speaker, and Ground wires to add AUX input port to their cars.
I also found wiring diagrams for the stereo system (https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/audi...diagram-23945/), but before I start to take the dashboard apart I would like to know if there is an easier way to do this. Something like the process shown in the videos with wiring harness being behind the glove box instead of behind the stereo.
Thanks.

FWIW, mine was acting like that and a new cable with chokes on it fixed it. It might have been that the new plug was a tiny bit larger. Like maybe the diff between metric and American?
If there was still RadioShack you could get a new connector and solder it in. However, there are places like Digi-Key that will sell them to you.
I would be careful with that kind of mod. I don't know how one input could handle 2 sources at the same time without frying something. If you remember to only have 1 turned on at a given time, I guess; or used switched female connectors.

not sure if you have stock radio or not...but another option (more expensive but way better down the line) is to replace the whole head unit itself with an aftermarket unit. You will get a lot more features and better amp/sound out of it compared to the stock one.
