Head unit replacement

Hi,I'm new here and have a quick question. I just purchased a 07 and the display is out. The radio works fine. Will a unit from a 2010 fit.

Short answer is "yes, I imagine so."

Long answer is you should probably start reading a few of the threads in this forum.

Pretty much any double-din HU will fit, with the right adapters. You just need to decide what all you want it to do.
A few here have put in ones with back up cameras and others of us just replaced the factory one with better systems.

If you do that, you will definitely want to upgrade the speakers too.

If you go with the 2010 stock GM radio, they are VIN security programmed. So, it would have to be programmed to your car's VIN.
I believe a newer radio can be programmed to an older model HHR with no issues.
As Casa stated. Read some of the older threads on this forum for the exact specifics.

Your gonna need the dealership to match the new radio to your vin, that requires the vin from the donor 2010 car, be prepared for the dealership to decline your request.

I thought I read something on here that you could swap the faceplates? And then it doesn't have to be reprogrammed? It wasn't all that long ago, might give the search a try, see if you can find it!

the way I interpret it - the face place can be swapped without problems: "Turns out that the faceplate of the radio is not locked like the radio itself so all I had to do was swap the newly repaired faceplate into the radio that is tied to my HHR's VIN"
