Taking out Factory Amp...

i plan on taking out the factory amp and sub that is located behind the inner driver side quarter panel, does anyone know if anything is running off of that amp other than the sub and probably the stock speakers? I plan on redoing all the wiring for the speakers and I'd hate to remove the amp if it is providing power to anything other than the speakers and woofer.

not that i know of, but keep in mind if you plan on changing head unit you will lose chimes/turn signal/on-star sounds unless you get the proper adapter. (around $100)

I noticed when I unhooked my sub that the AM/FM tuner no longer worked. Everything else was fine (cd, Ipod, XM), but nothing from the radio tuner. I later removed the sub/amp I had put in and hooked the stock sub back up via the connector on top of it, removed the (-) battery cable for a minute to reset the computer, and when I hooked it back up everything was back to normal, so I'm not sure what happened there.

If you're installing a navigation unit I'd recommend getting the on-star adapter no matter what as it gives you all the extra connections you need for speed sensor and what not. If you have on-star or not it works. Also keeps your chime and gives you the option of turning it up and down.

You didn't say what you're going to replace the Stock Amp with so I will answer what you asked.

According to the 2009 FSM, 2006 may or may not be the same, besides the power and grounds to the AMP and all the audio connections there are two other leads to the Amp from the radio head located in the dash. They are the power activation control lead from the radio to the Amp that turns the Amp on when the radio is activated AND the other is the Mute lead for the Amp.

So in the case of the 2009 removing the Amp will not disable anything else in the vehicle except the radio.

hmmm, I've already replaced my head unit with a aftermarket.....from the sound of it, I may lose power to my radio if I remove the amp? I guess if I look hard enough I'll find a different spot for a aftermarket amp.

Those two “control” leads from the stock radio head to the stock amp control the operation of the stock amp, not supply power that is done through a separate feed. So if you have already replaced the stock radio head and you're not having any problems then removing and changing the stock amp should have no effect upon the existing radio.

As long as everything is wired properly. Check with the manufactures of your equipment.
