HHR electric power steering

HHR electric power steering ? - does electric motor turn right or left because of unbalanced voltage? - voltage on motor control wires is 10.2 on blk and 11.5 on red with no steering input - is motor control by reluctance or hall effect sensors or a combo.? thank you

There are a couple of companies that make an aftermarket unit. There have been a couple installed on another forum I'm on dealing with Opels. One member put wide flares on his GT and thus filled them with REALLY wide tires, so much so it was very difficult turning in parking lot conditions. He adapted a aftermarket electric steering to his GT and now he can do parking lot turns with one finger!

You done got way too deep and technical for most of us on this site.

If it's not working, most owners just replace it.

Here's a good tech article on GM EPS systems such as the one used on the HHR, just click the link below......

http://www.searchautoparts.com/motor...power-steering

To directly answer the OP's question, no hall effect sensor or differential voltage used, instead it's a torque sensor and steering wheel position sensor.

If it's not in there, you probably won't find it anywhere. Never mind, I don't remember you saying you did not need a service manual! But it is at least described in there, that's what I thought you wanted. Hope you didn't waste any of your bandwidth.

Hello, indeed.

Don's right, it's not in there, SOP when the module has failed is to chuck it and install a new one.

Not sure what else you're wanting to know, service procedures for the EPS system are the standard "R & R", after diagnosis of the failed components.....Remove & Replace.

thank you for the link to Vanessa Attwell master tech. Failure is my fuel, knowledge is my quest. Knowledge makes the difference between a tech. and a parts changer. The wrong diagnoses and a parts changer become very expensive square, level, plumb - true?
