Parking e-brake Adjustment??? Help Please!!

Just did a complete brake job front & back, everything but the hoses, & I'd like to do an e-brake cable adjustment while I'm in there, but I can't find one. From what I've read there may be auto-adjusters in the handle assembly??? Another disappointing design by GM, I'm assuming. Anyway, I have an 06 LS with drums on the back. The original brakes went to 121K, but the parking brake has been lame every since I got the car at 65K. Anyone who has figured this out??? Thanx all!

E-mailed working on it the section of the service manual dealing with the parking brake, I'd be happy to send it to you also seattlekev....or I'm sure that working on it would be happy to send you a copy of his copy.

You slip off the ebrake cover and the center console plastic bits and you should find a nut and threaded stem its attached it. Tighten that to remove slack on the cable and adjust the catch point. Hardly a bad design.

Smile Slip off?

Thanx all for the info. I figured there had to be a semi-traditional way of adjustment, just couldn't get to it. Can ya define "slip off the e-brake cover"? Haven't really investigated, but at 1st glance, that looks like a dismantle from tha radio box down????
Anyways, I do believe one of our coherts is zipping me off a copy of that section as we speak, so the path shall be revealed in short orfer.
Again, thanx all!

Check your inbox seattlekev, like I mentioned in my e-mail, before adjusting the parking brake....make sure that the rear brakes are adjusted up properly. Otherwise you'll just have a frustrating time chasing the adjustment down.

And like has been said here so many times by oldsters like me and sleeper, and Greybeard...adjust your rear brakes every 5,000 miles, or at every oil change/tire rotation because the self adjusters on the HHR don't self adjust.

You're welcome working on it, anytime.

See not all of us lawyers are unhelpful slime balls, but the ones that are just ruin it for the rest of us.
